Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Let’s just say the club didn’t extend Saukuru due to defensive deficiencies. I wonder how far the club has gone to provide him with 1-on-1 coaching to rectify it rather than just telling him to work on it?

Is there much to the “defensive deficiencies “ thing that people have pointed to as the reason why he hasn’t got a go and is now out the door ?I trust your judgment better than most ….I don’t watch much of the Maggie’s so I don’t have an opinion …although I admit to being surprised he never got an opportunity with all the disruption at the position this year …

If he never amounts to anything …I’ll bet that no one revisits this thread and say the club got it right ..

career cup type players
like Kit L heading to perth
If I was making a summation of Saukauru, it would be that he probably lacks that natural aggression that makes a footballer with the ability that Solomone has into a top liner. Courtesy of Bar Tv I have been watching big Solo since Flegg last year and most of his appearances in cup this year. Has had some very good performances this year and has probably deserved a chance in the top grade. I was watching state cup a few games back and Wests were well on top and a couple times he had early ball and I’m thinking he will just steam roll his opposite only to be tackled simply by a low tackle from a smaller guy.He scored a couple of good tries in that game so he wasn’t bad , but I think he needs to develop that killer instinct that makes a footballer of his size and power somebody no one likes playing against. Having said that I’m disappointed that he is being shown the door as I think there is plenty to work with.

Do you think he'll go on and become one we regret ?

Or just a career cup player?
Could be either Demps, one thing we can all admit is compared to other clubs we have no clue how to develop players. The question we should be asking is between the 2 clubs where is he more likely to be a regular consistant first grader and where is he more likely to be a career cup player? Pretty sure we all know the answer. Its so sad. We are the N.R.L metal detector. Clubs use us to find it, then they take it to polish it.

The club got it right. He leaks tries like a sieve.

Blake Austin was on SEN today, I think a regular every Saturday now. Would love to have him at the club. Articulate, intelligent and a fantastic awareness of the game. Seems like a really decent bloke as well.

They're saying on the news that his footy gods won't be happy comments jinxed the club after we gave it to the raiders at leichhardt

Good points @tiges69 . Saukuru is strong & powerful in space and has some footwork at the line. In yardage carries, he does tend to not fully charge & has an annoying little skip before contact which makes it a bit easier for defenders imo.

@Demps I think the defensive thing is overblown a bit. He does tend to use his arms too much in lateral contact but is very strong generally in contact.

Would be a waste of 6 years of development to let him go. Surely a minimum $145k contract as a 29th/30th player is fair.
