Interesting. If only 1 out of 1100 clubs use the debenture system, then I wonder why this option hasn't yet been removed from the Act. Surely this system has long passed its used by date. Is it even possible to get it removed as an option?

the end of the 80's was used as that was when western suburbs moved to campbletown stadium 1987, would have been more relevant data

your 90's comment is about as relevant as
Balmain won more premierships than western suburbs 1915 to 1920 winning 5 times...

The facts stand that once the Magpies set down roots in Campbelltown, built some community support and sponsorship, they did better than Balmain across the 90s. Even the harshest of unbiassed critics would cut them a bit of slack to get settled for a few years.

The fact that both Wests and later Balmain (during that Sydney Tigers era) pulled up stumps on the inner city areas within a 5-10 year window says a lot though.

imho upstream issue sits front and centre on NRL (like any business, economy etc the central institution) the NRL’s 2000 decisions was the generative institutional event, and then ranking later:
- board,
- ownership,
- coaching and
- on-field problems
IMHO are downstream of where the real problem sits.

Those earlier structural choices created a constrained environment that subsequent teams eg dragons , warriors too have had to operate inside.

Proximate blame on boards, coaches , players remains possible and sometimes justified, but it sits at a lower causal level. It’s a systems issue.

Also its not like the games we play there are against opposition that will draw a crowd. If were travelling well campbelltown will sell out, just like if they set games up that would draw a bigger crowd. i.e tigers v bulldogs would draw a bigger crowd than tigers v dolphins id assume. We just seem to play games there that wouldnt draw a big crowd.
 
In truth though if either Leichardt or Campbelltown were so great, then logically neither Balmain or Western Suburbs would have needed to merge. Truth is at the time both were crap and were both playing at theit home grounds every 2 weeks and it didnt help them one bit.

Correct!
Both clubs weren't competitive by the time the merger came around.
Of course you'd never know that if you relied on this forum for information.
The world has moved on since then as has the demographics of both areas.
The obvious move for success is to embrace the South -West. It's common sense.
Leichhardt is good for one or two "events" per year.

I can't see it happening though as both sides of the coin are too entrenched in their own self interest.

We saw earlier in the year that Campbo will draw capacity when the club promotes well and makes the locals feel included.
It doesn't help that psychologically the people of that area are made to feel like the poor cousins.

The point is that NO ONE goes mate...there's a reason for that. Even if I brought my whole extended family of 100 people it would still be empty.

People dont go because there is ZERO support out there. If you're relying on your inner west fans to fill a south west stadium you've identified the main problem...they are fans based in the inner west and you are trying to force a relocation.
