Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ivan absolutely screwed us with all that cap he wasted on busted players
Well more he screwed us when he left early. He may have made the roster work for him over time, but it's worse, not just busted players, when you recruit for a guy who leaves after 1.5 years. Nobody is on a 1.5 year contract. And he made key decisions about the Big 4 that affected us for years after.

Reynolds was taking the piss. We talk about players that you still find hard to believe played for us. You think of names like Anasta, Idris etc. Josh Reynolds is another. Was so out of place at our club.
All Bulldogs scum. We should learn our lesson and not sign Dogs players esp. aging ones.

The PNG effect - every player using them to drive up their value. Clubs will either have to stand firm or risk losing some of them targeted by PNG. The more PNG recruit the more their appeal to those who were unsure about whether they would be competitive. The money the icing on the cake.
They reckon things will hot up a bit in 3 weeks time when half the comps season is done ...some clubs will give a lot of players permission to look around

Not sure how he has been diabolical?
I watch every Broncis game and he and Reece Walsh have been carrying that team, the forwards are not having a go.
Pat Carrigan has been playing not much better than how Terrell has been playing for us and Payne Haas has not been trying.
Not sure how we could fit Ezra Man in on his rumoured 900k per season contract, but he is much better than Luai that’s for certain.
Vic, you can't be serious comparing May with Haas and Carrigan even on their current form. May is a slug. The other two, whilst not in top form both have played origin and have go each week.

Dunno he’s top 3…
Dunno he’s top 10 to be fair?

Wouldn’t be in my top 6.

He’s half decent,
He certainly is popular though,
The media hype is almost Jurbo like.
Each to their own but I’d have him 3rd just below Young and Olaka’utu

Best line runner, tackles at 95% efficiency, has a great offload and averages 11 metres per run. Not sure what else you would want in a backrower

Heard something on the Johns chat with Keary that made me doubt that…
He said Moses had agreed with the chooks to come (for 18 I think) and then backflipped.
Which everyone knew, but that time stamped it a bit for me.
The big 4 (or 3 of) were trying to stay together for sure - just not here.

May is a solid player
- grossly over rated on the forum since he got here.

I heard Chieka say in the Boutis podcast when talking about middles and the difference between a tough and hard player.
Tough Players can take a knock, Hard Players are looking to dish them out.
Resonates with our middles - all of them.

Mate Josh Reynolds walked away from his contract with honour because he knew he didnt deliver. He could have easily made us pay him. On field he wasnt a success, but it was feom lack of trying or lack of integrity. No way he took the piss

He also had a poor run with injury and that thing he was dating pulled all that shit on him with the fake pregnancy and goading him on videos away from the game.

I remember one game he tore his hammy(?) and was still trying to cover a break with one leg. The bloke had heart, he was just past his best.

The club screwed itself, who ever was involved, in allowing Moses, Tedesco and Woods to go.

Instead of paying a little extra to keep them happy, we let them go and used their money towards players who inevitably failed.

Keeping the big 4 together at the time could have been a major turning point for the club.
Allowing them to go? It was widely reported at the time Tedesco took "less" to go to the Roosters.

Moses had a contract reported to worth 3 million over 3 years that had sat on the table for nearly 12 months. Cleary finally took it off the table to try and prioritise Tedesco and Woods after Brooks had committed, Moses spat the dummy and the rest is history.

No, I don't think money was ever a factor in those guys leaving, it was all political and to do with Isaac Moses and his mate (at the time) Joe Wehbe having more of a say in the running of the club. It was alleged Teddy wanted Wehbe officially employed by the club. Keeping the big 4 together could have and should have been a turning point, but it wasn't about a little extra at all.

Ray Stone retirement

Dolphins lock Ray Stone has been forced into retiring from the NRL at age 29, with the cult hero succumbing to persistent injuries.

Off contract at the end of this year, Stone has told his Dolphins teammates he will not play on beyond this year.

Tedesco may have taken less money to go to Easts, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think there weren't other inducements that the NRL don't know about. There is no way Easts have been able to stack their roster the way they have over the years and remained under the cap without outside help.

Wasting years of promise at this club was probably also a big motivator. As much as I hate them for leaving, their decisions were vindicated. Woods went on to play finals at Cronulla three years in a row, Moses has played in several finals series and made a GF, and Tedesco won two rings at Easts. Even Brooks has played a finals series at Manly.

They probably took a look at Rowdy and thought "nope, not letting that happen to me."
