OFFICIAL Q&A Club discussion with Shaun Mielekamp

Hi Shaun
Wishing you a productive off season

In regards to membership what are the benefits of say an extra 5000 memberships and what would the money be spent on.

Hi @ShaunMielekamp

Did you see this college football entrance in the US on the weekend? Can we replicate something like this for the WT? Panthers have Hells Bells but something like this could transform our crowd engagement & instant lift for our players (go to 2:50 in this clip ... spine tingling).

That's College/Flegg? WOW!!! Trouble with Gridiron is that the actual Game won't start for another30 mins and depending on who defends first, the Offensive squad are growing mushrooms on the bench! On a positive note if we did that at LO we can get money from the Govt to help build another harbour tunnel

They’ve been doing that for years. Really cool.
Even had Metalica play on the ground in person for one game.
I agree fan driven atmosphere helps. You see it at Leichhardt occassionally.
Eye of the Tiger is great but we need something more badass.
People mock the Canberra thing but I’ve been there in person and the Viking Clap + Green Machine song at volume 10 really pumps.

In regards to jerseys I am keen to get everyone's thoughts on what the long term should look like. I am curious when I look back at the history of the club the most common Wests Tigers jersey is the mainly black jersey with white and orange V. Many past administrators that I have spoken to about this was because black is the shared colour from both histories - not sure if this is correct or opinion of a small sample?

With no Leichhardt next year what and how should be the balance of the playing jerseys played in which colours at which grounds?

Over the last 26 years the main jersey has been primarily Black 18 times, Orange 6 times & White 2 times.

The Alternately jersey has been Orange 15 times, black 2 times, white 9 times

I find this website really helpful to understand the journey and the era's that the club has gone through: https://galleryofleague.com/austral...tra-premiership-history/wests-tigers-history/

I think it is fair to say that we have never really embraced a true Home and Away jersey like other clubs - we need to define our own narrative here I think, hence why I am keen to get various thoughts and opinions.
The merch this year and the change to Canterbury has been one of the best off-field decisions the club has made in recent history. Just order more of the tracksuit tops next year please 😉.

In regards to the jerseys this year feels like the first time in forever that we've had a real Wests Tigers jersey. Not a Magpies home jersey with some orange trims, and a Balmain away jersey with a splash of white.

The club needs to get away from this and it does feel like a source of division from within. The orange jersey being worn at Leichhardt and the white and Campbelltown, we took what could have been straight out Wests Tigers jerseys and turned them into one jersey for each side of the merger.

I just want the club to embrace the identity of being the Wests Tigers. I don't want us to have two sets of home jerseys that appease either side of the merger.

I think more needs to be done internally to resolve division (looking directly at you Holman Barnes Group) as I think you'll find that most of the fans are united behind the Wests Tigers moving forward. Agreeing on a home jersey that unifies Campbelltown and Leichhardt would be a good start.

What’s people’s thoughts on opening up a jersey design section , seems we have some good people on hear with design skills and good computer ability , maybe some one comes up with a cracker jersey that we could all enjoy , but go all the way
Jersey - shorts - socks
Combine the 3 traditional colours or not , individual preference
Home and away
Never know what could pop up .

I really think jerseys are at the lower end of our problems,.if theyre a problem at all

There are a.million opinions on jerseys, good luck agreeing on one

Absolutely, I agree with you there are a lot more important issues to deal with, but this is one issue bought up by Shaun and one he asked for feedback on.

It's not about getting a million people to agree on one jersey. It's about the club making a decision and saying this is the home jersey to be worn across our 12 home games and this is our away jersey. That ain't complex at all.

They both look good , but you get a Leichhardt and Campbelltown feel about them , I think most folks would want a jersey we have at all home games , I was a supporter of main orange for Leichhardt and black for Cambo but that just keeps the great divide going , but I have no idea how to fix it with out upsetting supporters or debenture holders

Yeah I hear ya.

But, in my case anyway, I pretty much only go to home games...and I dont mind seeing either jersey on different weeks
But there is another side to this....
If our away jersey is mainly the white one, and we play the Dog or Dragons away and their jersey is predominately white, then we have to change

thats the thread you were asking for

An idea which might help overcome this, is wearing one jersey for daytime games & one for night games, irrespective of where the games are played.

The team could wear a daytime jersey of predominately lighter colours (orange/white), and a predominately black one for cooler night games.
