John Morris Gone

For me. Id go all out to get ben teo in for our D. If hes not keen im going after Trent Barrett hopeless first grade coach but a grade a assistant. For our attack im going all out to get Neil Henry out of retirement. Sounds silly i know. But with a no name roster at the Titans he got them into the finals before Hayne grenaded the season. I think Henry was a massivly underrated coach. Bigger problem we have to sort is Richards as GM of football. Sorting that is so much more important. Once we get someone whos experienced in if we could, the coaching roles and structures will fall into place. We really need a new GM of football.

Any news on his replacement?
I can confirm that I was rejected cos I wanted to Work From Home in Adelaide. I was willing to come to the GF in 2027 to show support at HBG's expense. However, they decided I was unlikely to be of benefit to the club cos I had an opinion about players who couldn't tackle or pass to support, or pass at all.

I think we need some tougher coaches to uphold the standards that we talked about early on but seemed to let slip. Even Benji admitted as much during the AD saga.
If Morris was the D coach then we could do with some change. If we had better D and more discipline our Attack would probably improve. However we certainly also need some help with our A especially in the red zone.
A key factor in our poor performance in both A and D is certainly the calibre of the players that are attempting to deliver the structures and plays that are in place. A team full of fit, strong, athletic NRL standard players are guaranteed to deliver better week in week out than the many young and inexperienced fringe players that we have fielded.

A clean out of Morris , Hodgo , and Heighno would be very good , we need improvement in both defence and attack , these people need to be from other clubs not the boys club , it’s been tried and failed , new blood looking for a challenge is required .
Then sign some decent players in the spots required
O’Sullivan - we need the experience - opps gone to st Hellen’s UK
Frizell - again experienced nrl forward
Prop - depends on Hunt and Bunty , no word who stays or goes but if we need a prop I can’t see hunt going as he was good prior to injury .
Rad the warriors for back row and prop fringe players

Everyone is assuming that he was moved on. Could it be that he has made the move himself
Yeah, I thought he had been offered a job at St.George and if that was the case the club statement could have sounded a bit kinder towards him and could have mentioned that career move.

As others have said, I thought he was the better credentialed and most successful of our current assistants in that at least he had some success at Cronulla in the time he was there as the head coach.

Having said that, if he was the defensive coach then that does not go well in his favour, but to be fair they all need to go.

Adding to that I don’t think a review would be conducted until the season ends . Could be wrong though

Benji might see Ennis as a threat
Or maybe he just doesn’t like him . He did just get moved on from the dragons for similar reasons . Perceived threat/ not liked by the incoming coach or playing group . I heard something similar at manly .
Plus I’m pretty sure Robbie and him don’t like each other at all . I wonder how much that plays a part .
Also outside of fox talking him up , is he actually a good coach ? I’d honestly go in hard for Ben Teo . Everything else is a downgrade IMO.
I’d look hard at Canberra assistant and KOE coach Brock . Has a really long pedigree and we had him helping in the lower grades when Madge was here . I’d also look at Shane sultana and elevating him. We let Webster and Gardner go who showed similar promise in the lower grades .

Yeah I thought I read he was offered a job with Saints too about a month or so ago.

Surround him with guys with experience and see how we are sitting early next year . Surely if we aren’t winning more games and are competitive Benji has to go .

Geez we have a lot of supporters that somehow know our assistant coaches are the problem, without knowing what actually goes on between the 4 walls.
I know most of us want change and believe that will change our onfield success, but this way of thinking continues to overlook the main problem.
Fixing the playing roster to ensure it is highly competitive, including having competitive depth is far and away our number one issue that is preventing onfield success.
As the old saying goes “There is only so much juice you can squeeze out of the lemon”

Bomber has previously done well at Cronulla and knows what it takes to get a team to be competitive and find their way into the 8, it was strange to see him not get another head coach gig after being unceremoniously let go for Fitzy.

Disappointed we didn't have a crack at him as head coach way back when. Morris was let go in 2021 by Cronulla, and we didn't sign Benji on to his five year deal until the following season. I would say that is mind boggling, but that is the default setting for this club so doesn't surprise.

Will Benji's ego allow it though?

This is the issue, the club is now paying the piper for putting on a dreadfully inexperienced coach.

Was meant to have done a two year apprenticeship under Sheens which even then is as lean as it comes, but wound up only doing 8 months after we sacked Sheens again.

"Here's the keys, don't crash it."

Is he the scapegoat?
I liked John Morris as a player, and he was a good asst coach for Cronulla, but if he was our defence coach for the past few years, he didn't do a good job in that role, or is it just this club, will anyone be able to help us !
Failing so miserably for the past 15 or so years just isn't good enough I think it's time the excuses stop-in many ways this year was worse than any, and I believe the L:uai saga didn't help, but the club just has to be able to get the players to not drop their bundle when something like this happens, they have to be more resilient as players.
And most importantly Benji desperately needs a mentor....
