Umyla has played centre, wing, and fullback, and he looks as quick and evasive as his dad.

Whilst I don't think Ellery would ever entertain being a mentor for WT, if we signed his son, who knows.

He had a 67% win rate with Doncaster and then St Helens over the 4 years that he coached.

He’s 6 ft and 84 kg, and he’s only 24, so he’ll probably fill out a bit more.

However, the NRL has changed. It’s about speed and smarts, not just brute strength. We’ll see leaner, faster and much more athletic backs in the coming years.

You just have to look at the amazing season Keano Kini had this year. He’s 5'8" and 82 kg.

This is a little left field, however, Ellery Hanley's (The Black Pearl) son Umyla is turning into a Super League superstar.

He was named as part of the 2025 Super League Dream Team.

His stats for 2026 are:

He wouldn’t cut it in the Nrl. I haven’t seen anything in him to suggest otherwise. People need to also remember Super League is a huge drop from Nrl. If your a back in Super League & your not shooting the lights out in that comp then you aren’t cutting it here.

Lachlan Lam has struck me as someone who could add value to an NRL team

Way too selfish. Have watched him since he was 15. He has scored some cracking tries but will take on a defender even if he has a 3 on 1. Doesn’t mind missing hard conditioning sessions during the preseason as well. Probably why he plays in his dads team.

No I rated Dom. I didn’t see Herbie prior to playing for Broncos. I rated KPP as well. Your bloke isn’t any better then Gildart. A stack of Cup centres better than him.

What we do know is that Ulyma comes from pedigree. Unfortunately, Gildart didn't work out, but Ellery, Schofield and Ellis have.

If you look at Cleary, Walker and Campbell, it shows that genetics are passed on, and that footy IQ is hard to come by.

I just put this forward as an option for discussion. It will probably never eventuate, however, I feel this could be a solid signing.

You're right, however he played all his juniors in the UK.

On the pod one of the guys made mention someone who gives him decent mail told him we have already signed a half for next year. Said he wasnt told who but that Tigers supporters would be really happy. Walker for a year or two would have been great. In typical fashion though his career on the pitch might be over after his acl injury.

I absolutely agree. Talent is going to be scarce and hard to attract with two, if not potentially three, new clubs coming in.

For us, our poor attraction value will be compounded due to our management, history and win/loss record.

Improving our management and coaching staff, and as you said, thinking outside the box will help.

I agree and have said the same thing myself.
What I’m saying is we should be ideally monitoring plenty of players, emerging, established and experienced from far and wide and even though the UK Super League standard is not very high, there are still players from that competition we should be monitoring at the very least.
