Hello Darkness My Old Friend

No, it's not your eyes Odessa. Bateman is a really lightweight 2nd rower and doesn't have the weight to dominate opposition players the way we need him to.
A few seasons back he had the speed and high energy playing style to eliminate his lack of size.
He played with high energy in his first 3-4 games for us, but has since looked sluggish.
Small and sluggish is not a good combination.

Yeh, it's a real pity that Bateman hasn't performed the way he did with the Raiders.
Looking back, maybe when we purchased him, he was another 'desperate hope for the best purchase' at that time.

Small sluggish and stupid is worse.😁

Maybe not made the impact we expected at an individual level, (so far), but brings so much in terms of leadership. Very vocal and competitive. Seems to hate losing. We were missing that before he joined. Certainly been worth bringing him to the club IMO.

Anyone bagging him clearly forgets our piss weak edge defense before he got here. He has a will to win that infects others too. Intangible stuff.

He was a culture signing, the club went out signed alot of older players that had good attitudes and knew that not all of them would perform to their best level.

Outside of last week bateman while far from his best is usually decent

His will to win often crosses the line into embarrassing cringeworhty boofheadedness... He's become more liability than asset
No way, we've got fans and pundits saying even in defeat (dolphins game) saying tigers are improved and going the right direction and a big part of that is defence. We didn't let that dolphins game blow out where we would have. There was effort and resolve.

I'm confident players like Bateman to along way to bring that and instill that in the group. Yes a boofhead but not hurting the team more than helping.

Agree to disagree. Jimmy Maloney made tonnes of mistakes. Also won a lot. Ask his teammates if they want him out there.

He was in line for the golden boot mate, I appreciate your humour.
Name the club who would start a small, slow, sluggish back rower that makes more 3rd man in flops than tackles, never runs the ball at more than half pace, never even looks like making a line break and gives away far too many penalties ?
Where are you not seeing the modern game, in particular the successful clubs have fast mobile edge back rowers who are a constant danger to the opposition when running the ball.
Granted he at times defends ok, you cannot be a successful NRL side if selecting back rowers who defend ok, but offer nothing in attack.

Victor Radley is similar. Someone not afraid to mix it up. He’ll make mistakes and give away penalties but his teammates will forgive him because he’s tough. Footy is much more about intimidation than scoring fancy tries. The best defensive teams shine come finals time. Backs get you your points.

Shame he doesn't bring that form to the Wests Tigers.
The manly five eighth is a walking talking example of Wests Tigers being problem not the victim.

Wins against Penrith, Brisbane and Easts in his first month at Manly.

All his fault 😂

Simply saying that errors don’t define the player. Mindset does.
And Maloney has bucketloads more mindset than Bateman...I loved watching Maloney and yeah he made plenty of errors, those that touch the ball most probably will, and they'll likely amke plenty of errors...he would just dismiss it immediately as if it never happened

Jonneh get a good shot put on him and hes rattled for set after set after pushing and shoving going the tough guy act...its easy to get under his skin
