Adam Doueihi #227

But he’s still got a footy brain, something we are lacking, so on that score alone I’d be courting him as an advisor.
I’d love to know if he had any part in moving Douehi to half last Sunday. Will never know but interesting to speculate.
It was a bold move, whoever made it.
Bold, really?

I thought it was a pretty obvious move given the conditions. Neither JL or Latu have great long kicking games. In my book, nieither does AD but it is better than the other two. AD did all of the general play kicking unless we were down in the red zone so his strength in this are was a real focus.

He did an OK job of it, found the back three without moving them around too many times; however, given the slow pitch and a reasonable chase we were able to make the most of it.

What Benji did was show faith in the playing group and demonstrated that he has the ability to tailor his game plan for what and who we are facing. For those that have been stating we have no game plan - he has answered in spades. What we don't have is a complicated expansive game plan - but my gut feel is that this year is about building a foundation.

Ciraldo was completely out coached on Saturday, and the Dogs were completely out played. Benji and the team may have said in the lead up that Galvin had no bearing; but they were full of it. This one was personal for the playing group.

It’s not only about his contract value but it’s about available roster spots. We are getting very tight on available spots for 2026. We still have to lock May in for beyond this year so presumably another roster spot will be taken.
Yeah, I don’t get the hubub about his value. We are miles under the cap. Paying him 450-500 won’t break the bank. Plus it’s about right for him.

Given all the hoo ha about Latu, and whilst I get what you’re saying, imho it was still a bold move to play him at 7.

You know more than Cronk, maybe we can get you on our coaching staff ?
Doueihi‘s recent form has been a fluke, we don’t want halves who have a long kicking game, are a running threat, make line breaks, score tries, dig into the line to create opportunities and line breaks for others.
Why would we want all of that ?
He's played 2 games at halfback and 1 at 5/8 all season. One of them we got thumped by last placed Parramatta. Relax.

Clearly I don’t agree.
Luai has been phoning it in most of the year.
He talks a big game off field then does little on it. The bloke couldn’t organise a root in a brothel so he’s the sticking point…we have one half and supposed leader who is not living up to his promise and enormous price tag and we are baulking at offering a bloke who is displaying more in both areas the opportunity to earn a third of that salary.
It appears once again we will let a non PI walk away. You need a balanced squad. Hive minds do not work.
Bogan assumptions are not helpful

thats funny ,besides the last month Adam has done jack in the last 3 years . He is the king of mediocrity, telling us all he is a captain worth twice the price , but giving mostly nothing but lip serive
What is even funnier is you totally disregarding that it’s quite usual for a player with a high grade partial tear of an ACL to have a recovery period of 12 to 18 months.
I don’t think it’s being overly generous to acknowledge the courage and determination that he showed to get back on the park.
He’s come back better than ever. He’s taking every opportunity and not letting go.
We have nobody better than Adam in 2 positions he plays 13 & 7, and unless we see some kind of divine intervention it will remain this way for the next 2 seasons.

I thought we have signed him twice now on a one year deal or extension, what ever way you want to call it.
I think that’s correct. Still doesn’t change things. He’s only been getting one year extensions so he hasn’t had a chance to slacken off. And that’s taking into account all of his injuries.

Bold? Maybe, our emphatic win vs Panthers at Bathurst in 2023 would have been top of Benji’s thoughts. It was vintage Tim Sheens showing Benji how to win in the rain. That time our kicker was Luke Brooks, keeping the premiers on the back foot.

My thoughts about the short contact extensions are that he has only been able to perform in a handful of games and those being very much towards the end of this latest contract.

Kind of makes you think of what he might be thinking, "Gee, I haven't got much time left to impress for a new contract, I better pull my finger out and show something." 🤣

They are just my thoughts on him, just want to see something from him on a more regular basis and time is running out.

Well, to this point, he’s almost our player of the year. Definitely the player who’s had the most influence on the field. I remember he had a blinder in the Parra trial, but it was a trial, so didn’t really get that much fanfare. But the signs were there even then. He’s easily earned a two year deal.

I'm really torn over the guy, not sure if he is only putting in now looking for a contract and then there is that constant injury concern, I guess at the sub $500k (maybe $450k tops) for two years he currently looks like better value than some of our current signings.

I guess we will probably end up doing it and if he does get another serious injury then that is probably game over for him and we probably get a top 30 spot back and cap relief, so probably not the worst thing we could do.

Gee Hank, I’d hate to think AD, or any of our players, could just flick a switch and go from mediocre to outstanding just like that ! Whilst he’s had a standout month I think there are other factors in play, as well as maybe some increased effort.
Either way, the $64 questions are, where does he play long term, how much do we offer and how long do we keep him.
The way it’s going it looks like we won’t have to worry coz $350k looks like our top offer, which actually means, we don’t want or need you

I think AD would be smart to accept 350K next year with a clause in there for 27’ based on his performance at lock. If he can nail that down it prolongs his career and would earn him better coin.

He's insanely overrated as a player, a commentator and a "personality" ... hard to call him that because he lacks any personality imo.

I agree.
gee that's rough.

Forget the winning record, but even his style of playing, his kicking game, short passing game was elite. He was a great clutch player. He is considered a tier below Smith, Slater, JT etc but he should be in the same class as them.

As a commentator, I agree, he is quite bad.

As big of a douchebag as he is, I think he was always in that top tier.
