Your point was also about some rant about US sports …they make most of our guys look like amateurs in terms of money their players get and how they run the show

The AFL manages to have a draft … which the NRL guys won’t cop for some reason… and sought court action over that …even though it’s a good tool to help poor teams improve and probably could have helped us get off the bottom a bit quicker these past 10 years ,,..what the courts decide isn’t necessarily for the betterment of the game for the fans

hopefully PVL starts pulling Clint Newton’s head in… the inmates are running the asylum

We would know what money is available still to be spent for each team …should that be a state secret ? I find watching US sports that being privy to the goings on with things like roster building further enhances the fan experience… the NRL also needs a free agent window as well on that point..

Also would be good to see how the Broncos, Roosters and others can have a much superior squad whilst we also spend the same amount of money …the TPA’s ‘s should be made public …if it doesn’t change anything …at least it’s out in the open and we can all see what a farce it imight lead to it being questioned. otherwise it just continues on for decades… you know the old saying - sunlight is the best disinfectant

The players that are being ripped off should know if as well…..although I think this isn’t as wide spread as you think I suspect …the agents are all talking to each other and they know the worth of their players

I agree. I have no interest on knowing the exact salaries of players because for me, all it does is tell me what is on the books, not whats getting into the bank account or their wives,or other ways of propping the contract up. Sceptical yes, I know am, but having salaries published achieves nothing IMO

Plus all the poor players getting criticised for not living up to expectations … it’s not like that ever happens now ..

This isn't slavery "Skelton for Barnett is a good trade." you can't trade people. If they don't want to go or don't want to play @WTs nothing will happen.

Good answer. I like the first paragraph. I think most fans would like knowing cap space remaining at each club, though I do see an argument against also. E.g. Losing fan engagement once cap is essentially full or clubs have less negotiating power if agents know exactly how much is remaining. But these are more just highlighting the other perspective rather than actual personal concerns.

I still wouldn't expect anything to change with TPAs. It would be very easily argued as a restraint to attempt to limit them. I actually believe the best thing if it was revealed is it wouldn't be anywhere near as much of a farce as people think (for the most part). Again less of a concern but I see an argument that players may actively seek to get to clubs like the Broncos if it is in black and white that there is a far greater earning capacity there. It potentially (not necessarily likely but potentially) create a bigger gap.

I don't think that players being on unders is widespread. It would often happen for a season but then of course in most cases the pressure to upgrade and extend is put on by agents and even fans, I do think there are plenty of players on unders but very few with a massive discrepancy.

The player still needs to opt to leave in AFL. Most common example a player in say Adelaide asks to return to Melbourne. They won't necessarily choose the club but they do have some say in the club and complete say in destination.

Only with the consent of the players involved - plenty of clubs ( Essendon, GWS, Suns etc) refused trades for players last year and required the player to honour the contract - players have the right to say no and the club is required to honour the contract. It's done with everyone's knowledge and agreement. The UNHCR would be a welcome input.

You are correct re the trade in AFL but the player has to agree to be traded.There is a story of a player locking up his house so the club officials couldn’t get in and pressure to agree.

Yep. Publishing salaries won't stop any genuine rorts, so ultimately I think nothing changes. Tom however did make some fair points to other benefits.

I started writing practically the same view, but gave up, so thanks @Tom Shines!

Why is sport different to any other form of entertainment? No one ever seems to feel it's an invasion of privacy knowing how much Brad Pitt got paid for his last movie...

I also agree knowing a team's cap does add a lot! When an NFL player signs with a team for X years on $Y per year, everyone then knows if CBD how he fits in the cap, and if not, who will be traded?

We all know Dylan Brown signed with the Knights for $13M, 10 years. What no one is currently able to say definitively is how they are able to do this.

Who do you think will become available? Do they have a 6 or 7 the tigers should get now?

Yes, these are all already hypothesised about; but actually knowing the roster management really opens up what is currently a pretty foggy system that is outdated imo.
