I just saw the press conferences. Benji and Luai were both unflappable.
Criticise Benji’s tactics or selections - fair game, but I honestly don’t understand how there are any Benji haters out there, or worse, amongst us.
What he has brought and continues to bring to our club is incomparable.
As a player he literally made the WT brand.
And he brought glory too. Legacy is an understatement.
And now as a head coach, his personality and philosophy attracts star players, which we have had difficulty doing in forever.
He is still learning his trade, but remember that in just a few short years on the job he has already had to manage when his mentor and head coach was pushed out before his eyes and before his apprenticeship was complete, tasked with the rebuild of a perennial wooden spoon team - his future franchise player only to be ripped away in brutal fashion, the public board dramas, the CEO departure, and now the star recruit and captain leaving.
Still he remains as resolute as ever. The way he holds himself in interviews may belie his experience as a coach, but not as someone who has already seen it all.
Just. So. Impressive.
The odds were stacked against him and here he is, building a solid culture despite everything, his stocks and the team clearly trending up.
So proud.
