‘It’s the truth’: compelling new WT doco

Maybe a coach like Barrett or Cleary who give their players a cuddle would work with these guys but there is definitely a mismatch between the personality of the coach and the team. It looks like we desperately need some hyper competitive to match Madges style and bring the group along with him. Hastings sounds like he’s in that mould. Smith would be perfect. Even Gutho or Mitchell Moses would probably suit his style (vomit). Brooks 10000% doesn’t look like someone who would fit into what Madge wants

But what we have to remember is Madge is the current NZ coach. Now due to covid there has been limited to no international footy being played to judge him on performance there. As there is a correlation between both club and international teams.

The Manly segment where it was a low lights package of errors and Manly killing it with the music... so embarrassing.

Followed up with a light hearted segment about Luciano cracking jokes and how everyone thinks he's a prankster...

I'd love to know who thought this was a good idea to put into the doco?

Like here's a woeful attempt at a game to upset u but don't worry here's funny guy Luciano dancing and laughing...

really sums the team up.
MCK having the time of his life with the opposition after a loss.

They don't have their jobs serious.
You can see it whenever u see Mbye play.
Or Talau... how he even gets picked is beyond me.

They don't listen to Madge.
Guy pours his heart out and they just go out their in first gear, low efforts, stinking it up.

This doco is actually really embarrassing and upsetting and I hope I'm not the only one.

Not to mention that ending.
What does that signify?
It was like a tribute to a lost one?
A fade out sequence with the chair.

I'm seriously bewildered with this hot pile of garbage.

The Manly game was bizarre.. I'm waiting for some sort of resolution, or for the part where that performance is addressed but no, they just cut straight to Luciano laughing and having a good old time (which was in quite poor taste considering his recent form).

100% they don't listen to Madge. And what's worse is he's saying everything most of us have been saying - reserve graders ready to take their place, that they're enjoying all the perks (massages etc.) but aren't giving anything back on the field. Basically everything wrong with their attitude Madge seems to be directly calling them out on, but they're just obviously not listening.

I think the chair at the end was just poor editing that didn't really clearly convey what it was intending to. And I don't like the way these episodes end so abruptly - takes me a few seconds to realise they're actually finished.

Good post man, thanks for the reply.
I've been waiting for some one to agree or disagree.

These are the main points I took out of it.
All a bad look, IMO. Very poorly put together.

Im not so sure, Madge has that side of him also.

This all boils down to the players attitudes and effort.

The squad needs to continue to evolve.

I don't know how anyone can hate on Madge after watching that. He was fantastic.

I think we need to get a better team on the park but I'm not confident for next year.

What’s Stephen Kearney up to these days

Complete absence of leadership otherwise.

Just a question … while our fearless leader is on the bench who’s captain then ??

I asked the same question in the Discord channel. Apparently it's Brooks for the 55-60 minutes Tamou is off the field per game.
Says alot!

One part that particularly wound me up was the brief interview with Mbye speaking of when Madge gets cranky and that they provoke him with a couple of losses then he has a good laugh about it. Mate really? You feel in that instance making jokes about your teams losses and your coach being cranky about it is the best thing for the fans to see?

From most of my mates who follow other teams, they all feel Madge is not the problem. This perspective is interesting coming from those with zero allegiance to the team. They all seem to love his passion and desire to succeed however feel there's a massive attitude issue within the playing group. How does one man alone fix this? Quite simply put, he can't. Madge desperately needs like minded assistants who'll buy into his methods and reinforce them. The introduction of Sheens will no doubt help but that's only one piece of the puzzle.

It seems far too many of them are happy to dish up minimal effort with wins a bonus and losses are acceptable.

This is my opinion that im going to stand by from now on

Keep Madge

Sack millard and wayne...we need new attack and defence options

This is the only way Maguire will save his job ! He is willing to employ professional and proven experienced assistants !
This Doco is a bad look for this organisation it’s a poor damnation and how the CEO thought this was a good idea but I suppose it’s the reason why this club is a train wreck of failure!

I quite like the doco...i think it was a great idea...how ever painful it may be..i do think its something only a few clubs could do....any other club would be boring as hell

I do agree with everything else tho u said

As painful as it is to watch for us diehard Tiger supporters, the rest of the footy fans out there don’t read so much into it. I have friends watching who think it’s great and believe the club has done well with this initiative. In the end everyone has their opinion of this idea and some will love it and some will hate it, but it generates talk and viewers etc which is exactly what it’s designed to do.
Tigers are the perfect club because of the mix of emotions and passion and drama that surrounds us.

The biggest concerns I have after watching the docco last night are:

There seems to be absolutely zero input from Tamou in the sheds or on the field, I mean not a single word constructive or otherwise. Some leaders lead by pumping up their team when the team is down, some are quiet vocally and lead by example, sadly he appears to do neither. Not once is he heard during the halftime huddle firing up his teammates, not once is he heard in the team huddle post opposition points being scored. The only players heard at all are Luc and AD.

The assistant coaches seem like absolute nuffs with the greatest respect. Not a single word nor emotion from them in either episode. What is it they actually do apart from holding a note pad/clipboard and put a few squiggles on the page. Not once does anyone in the coaches box offer Madge any valuable insight or idea. Clearly there's a glaring issue right there.

Far too many players in the team are more interested in their Insta persona then actually ripping and tearing for this team. I've said it before and will say it again, you have to earn the right to showboat around like a baller and tbf you don't see the great players from the most successful clubs doing it anyway.

I honestly think Madge is the man to lead the team into the future, his passion cannot be questioned. He will bleed for this team, he just needs the right support around him to do so.

I saw that Tamou was offering at least responses while the others just looked at the floor even before games

Added to that there was barely a pulse in the in the Sheds or the WT Coaches box apart from Madge.

Get the Man some help!

I actually think his style is perfect for international footy ie ramping up a bunch of elite players to bind together in a short camp and go out and run through walls for each other. The question is does it suit a team of players who have never achieved success and who have an average age of about 22

I mean it was just trying to point out who he may be.

The way I see it, he's a reserve grade coach for a local squad - previously as a player before, he seems like most of the guys that were on the sidelines.

Haha, maybe.
But looks aside, I'd be questioning how much he actually contributes to ANYTHING.

Episode 1 - Playing on his phone
Episode 2 - Sitting around, laughing.

Not seeing the benefit.

I know he is involved with indigenous and community stuff but, how good is he at his job?

Therein lies the problem....this bunch of NRL fraudsters who know they are the top 17 in the club realise that Madges threats wont come to fruition at the moment because they know that what lays below them wont cut it at NRL level for awhile....so they dont really care what he says because if they get flogged by 30 they know the others will get flogged by 60/70 and know Madge wont risk that or them(young guys/ressies)

Understand you point but with no reserve grade and them been so young it would kill there development putting them out there against men and getting flogged. They would not be able to keep up with the pace of NRL with no game time under there belts.

I feel for Madge as he has no experience leaders that want to lead and unable to use the reserves to a point.. I think we will see a clean out at the end of the year but our main focus IMO is buying a few experienced players to help steer the ship. Unfortunately Tamau is a big disappointment in my eyes as he show no leadership at all.

Yes agree with that as he was run of his feet and not from a lack of effect. I believe that was his first full game and against one of the top teams he did great and that happened in OT.. He will get better but they clearly attacked him at that moment like a smart team would.
