The thing I’m getting from this docu more then anything is the support staff around madge is not up to scratch. The two main characters there are Ronnie Palmer and snoopy. We have such a young team , there would be a massive disconnect there. I love ronnie Palmer but gee can you imagine him talking tactics or motivation to get the players up on the field. We need some massive changes there.

Maguire appears to be doing too much on game day and I'm shocked at how little anyone speaks to him in the sheds or coaches box.

I hope that’s it just not being shared but there is no talk of tactics or game plan. It’s just come on boys, play for each other , play aggressive , smash them.

IMO this is why Penrith are having recent success. Yes Cleary walked into a club full of talent but he’s got them playing for each other.

They are playing for each other but were doing it for years before Ivan returned. The teams been together several seasons and that's why they're tight. It's (apparently) the reason Chin didn't want to come to us.

Ivan has stumbled onto a golden egg.

Good point. He certainly has! And I’ll never forgive him either for what he did to us. The kiss blowing showed his true colors…Hard to stop now I’ve started ?

We had that when it was referred to as "the boys club" and someone in their wisdom decided it needed to be broken up and we haven't recovered since. We had players that loved the club and their team mates, brought us success and we pushed them out the door. The dismantling of that started with Sheens when his position was threatened and the irony that he is back to fix those pathways does not escape me.

Problem was that boys club wasn’t performing to their potential either. Humans don’t like change and we saw the aftermath unfold.

Luc and AD were the only players mic’d up in episode 2. I suspect if Tamou, Brooks and the assistant coaches had a mic we would have heard more from them.

Maybe so but lips don't lie. Unless I missed something they just seemed to sit there deadpan and mute.

So the responsibility all falls on Madge pushing for no results, which also makes the club look a bit one-dimensional in how it motivates its team for results.

I think you are right that it's a fairly one-dimensional (so far) take on the Tigers story.

So for example: I refuse to believe that the assistant coaches don't say anything to Madge during matches, or during half-time. If you paste together all the shots of Madge blowing up in the box, it would be lucky to be a handful of minutes total against the backdrop of several matches, i.e. only a fraction of total match time. And that is therefore easily explained - they edit in footage of Madge making a comment or blowing up, then cut away. Some people interpret this as the assistants being silent.

Episode 1 you hear Madge calling down to Snoopy constantly, but nothing of Snoopy. Some folks say "what's the point of this Snoopy guy?" This week shows you Snoopy running around and relaying messages.

I'll keep watching cos I love the club, but they have created a narrative of a passionate man fighting against difficult odds: passive players, silent assistants, institutional issues, and bad luck. Will our hero (Madge) flame out, or will things turn around? It's not to say the access isn't cool that they have, but they have shaped it.

One example: in my memory people didn't boo at the end of the Cowboy's game. It came at halftime. If they did I didn't hear them and I was in the stand. They must have mixed in half-time boos, at the end, to really make the moment when Brooks is emotional, 'land' hard. And it worked. He looked crushed and (fittingly) without words.

We will only learn about assistant's help if the producers choose to interview them and feature them.

I'm a little disappointed they used the Brooks footage to be honest, he was that upset because he was being abused by people on the sideline while being interviewed by Jake Duke. The stuff being said to him was disgusting and he was very close to going over the fence.

Hearing stuff like that makes me think Brooks would be better to move on. While I have no faith in the club to replace him with someone better, he deserves a go with some better weapons around him.

Swap for Toby Sexton

Snoopy is far from impressive . Piss him off. Not a Madge hater but the way he talks to the players week in week out would switch me off and drive me nuts. I think it shows on their faces. Where is the captain in this debacle. Tamou is probably still digesting his oranges aft e r his 20 minute stint.

You do realise that what they are showing at half time is the Fox take. They are not showing what Madge really said about indiv. need to pull their finger out, or that he is telling them to stick to the game plan, what the players are saying, or where they all think the weak spots are in the opposition etc. etc. All they want to show for some reason is Madge swearing - maybe they think that is what the viewers want.

Yes I do realise this as being done for "ratings". Even so, what I am seeing does not fill me with confidence.

It's true, they're making a documentary for entertainment purposes. Madge is thier star man and so far they're painting him very well. I wonder if the last two episodes will be so kind. I think not.

But with selective editing we'll never get the full picture. Will we get unrestricted access to a tactical session where we analyse the opponents and work on our plays in attack and defense to beat our rivals? Unlikely.

All we can gather from the doco so far is that Madge is good at giving motivational speeches, the players lack the ability to fire up and play with passion and heart, and that Madge swears a lot. (interesting they chose eo edit out swear words in one scene but not the Tommy game...)

It would be good to see more from the documentary. There have been some good insights, but at the same time a lot of content I imagine has been skimmed over, and the first two episodes have just felt like one big introduction.

Haven’t watched all of the 2nd episode, in the sheds after the Cowboys loss Maguire tells the players he will see them 3pm the next day for a review, and to change their attitude, then starts to walk out.First players up and getting their stuff are Musgrove and Nofoaluma. It’s only a little thing but to me reinforced two players that really have a poor attitude and have stunk it up this year. Nofo should of been the last player up and embarrassed after the game he had.

It's edited that way. Fox only include the comments Madge makes, as part of their focus on the head coach.

Surely everyone can tell that Fox are only using a fraction of their total footage, in order to build a specific narrative? It would be a mistake to assume the Madge footage is the only thing that happens amongst club officials and players on gameday.

FYI some of The Ambush team spoke with Justin Pascoe yesterday, he said that Fox has filmed hours and hours of off-field footage, including training, player one-to-ones, recruitment meetings, staff meetings etc.

He said the club was anticipating seeing more of that off-field footage in the remaining episodes, based on the volume of material Fox has. So far Fox have decided to focus more on the gameday material.

Its simply unaffordable to change coach next year, thanks to the Board who renewed Madges contract b4 a ball was kicked this year(who does that btw…??)

Might be a bit harsh - if i remember rightly there were a lot on here jumping up and down about the board being a bit slow to renew him. At the time there were a couple of clubs that were sounding him out and people were worried that he would walk at the end of the contract. I also thought at the time of the renewal there were a few KPIs that were added that gave the board more flexibility over his tenure.
Has it worked out - probably not at this stage - i think the board will allow him to see out the year and move in to next year with some pretty heavy expectations of how long he has got to turn it around.

I honestly dont recall any threat of him being lured elsewhere tbh...hed taken us from 9th to 11th,which in itself isnt overly attractive, plus there are way more coaches availble than chairs for them to sit on
Frankly I was gobsmacked we signed him up b4 a ball was kicked...but whats done is done
He needs a season with Sheens(whose style cld be very complimentary btw)...
but what I saw on Tigertown concerns me somewhat for the medium/long term

The Cowboys sounded him out about the possibility of him taking over before they signed Payten. At the time the club jumped in to say it wasn't true but i'm sure they may have been a bit spooked after the Ivan debacle and it may have had an influence on their decision to extend him early.

That was Simpkin's first game, he played all 80 minutes plus GP, the missed tackle is no worse than what Liddle is offering up each week after over 50 games
