I just watched the episode , it is embarrassing, Madge looks to be a really good person and he would possibly be better off getting sacked and moving on with his life .. he is not having success at the club and he looks miserable and he does not have the answers IMO .. Proffesional sport is just that, it’s results based and just because Madge is a top bloke and a good person doesn’t mean he needs to keep his coaching job.. he would get over it , it’s a shame but worse things happen to people

I find it interesting that the players just sit with their heads bowed in the sheds almost looking like they want to hide - is it possible that no one wants to speak because they know that it's being filmed and are afraid to say the wrong thing, Or, are they just mostly young and aren't good with communicating in intense situations or in confrontations. Speaking up in that type of a situation puts a spotlight on you, and in general, is not something that many of this generation are very good at.

As an aside, I was impressed in the way Adam Reynolds was consoling AD at the end of the Souths game, seems a decent bloke.

The more I watch their games and also seeing this footage, I am convinced that 3-4 quality "winners" - players who compete at 110% every week and who lead by example (Brandon Smith types) - would make all the difference to this group. The fact is that's exactly what the teams in the top 5 or 6 have......at least 3 or 4 of those type of guys!

And the guys mentioned in your last paragraph are the same blokes who will speak up in the way you refer to in paragraph one. It’s a unique dynamic in a rugby league change room, young guys need those leaders to be vocal or the group lacks a certain authority. It can’t just be the coach ranting all the time. That really is 100% what we are lacking. Confident senior leaders who contribute more than their share on the field.

We severely lack leadership on the field. A strong captain (or member of the leadership group) would be standing next to the coach during the pre-game revving them up, walking around slapping them on the back, getting in their ears.

I also think the pre-game speeches are a bit long and they switch off. Get into them fast, get them standing up and firing each other up. Get them (metaphorically) slapping each other's faces.

Doesn't need 10 minutes of repetition - just give them a simple, definitive message and they fire themselves up.
