‘It’s the truth’: compelling new WT doco

Johns actually said Mal Reilly would only do about 25% of the talking in the sheds. So when he did say something it was important and had an effect.

That's cool, and how many seasons did Mal Reilly coach the Knights without Andrew Johns playing?

It's all well and good to quote the actions of coaches who have all-time legends of the code in their roster. I'm more interested in the behaviours of coaches who took struggling teams to the finals without the aid of superstars.

It was more about highlighting how the lack of leadership in the sheds makes it tough for Maquire. An unenviable situation for him.
I have no quotes about coaches being successful with struggling teams, but would also be interested in hearing them!

I will be curious to see what is in the upcoming episodes.

It has been mentioned that based on the footage shot, there should be more training and admin/recruitment a bit strange (stupid??) that the club would grant that level of access without some form of editorial control.

Setting themselves up for another hatchet hob, particularly when you look at the media outlet involved.

I have only seen the first episode and I have read comments from Tiger fans about how they love Madge’s passion. For me initially it was ok to watch and listen to Madge being passionate in this way but after a while it became just noise.

I know these were hand picked highlights of hours and hours of recordings but how on earth Madge can think that swearing and yelling at players so often is motivational is beyond me.

After a poor first half I can just hear the players walking off together and saying to each other “guess we’ll cop another ear full in a minute”.

If you want to rant and rave to get your point across you’ve missed your calling by 50 years.

Spot on.

Michael Maguire has topped Tony Soprano and Jimmy McNulty as the biggest foul-mouth on television.

The Wests Tigers coach dropped a staggering 113 F-bombs in 57 minutes in the second edition of Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town, the documentary on Fox Sports looking into the club’s 2021 season.

American crime drama The Wire, featuring Dominic West as grizzled Baltimore detective McNulty, averaged 102 swear words per episode, the most of any television show in history according to website casino.com.

That is followed by mafia show The Sopranos, led by the late James Gandolfini as New Jersey crime boss Tony Soprano, with an average of 83 profanities per episode.

Maguire was rattling along at well over one expletive a minute, including this vintage rev-up in the changerooms ahead of their round eight clash with the Dragons.

“Get a hold of f------ each other,” Maguire told his player. “All the things that you f----- do, get into this f------ team, that’s what we f------ do at the Wests Tigers. And you f------ love doing it. Yes? Well f------ get into these -----. Cos they’re in the way of f------- going where we want to get to.

“This f------ jersey makes you rise… be the f------ team that puts on f------ tries, scores f------ tries, f--- there’s nothing better than scoring another one. All those little things you get to do together, it’s f------ good fun. Well go out and f------ do it boys, hey. Go out and rip into this
f------ team.”

Tigers prop Alex Twal said the documentary had made for interesting viewing and the passion exhibited by Maguire was no surprise to the playing group.

“We’ve been watching it,” Twal said. “It’s been pretty good. Showcasing to our fans what sort of goes on behind the scenes. It’s been entertaining.

“It’s like reality TV. You see what you see. “It is pretty close to the mark how passionate we are about winning, especially Madge. It’s very good for our fans.”

With two episodes remaining, Maguire could push cartoon South Park for most expletives used over the course of a television show: 9228.

My absolute favourite part of the doco. was the trivia night.
Name a famous Balmain player by using the letters in the word baseline.
Blocker had to tell Benny that the answer was Ben Elias.
Benny then asks "how'd you know that?"
Gold.
This is the guy that wanted to buy the club.

You know there’s a problem when Blocker is the smart one.

We seem to win the game before each episode airs so fingers crossed we have another 4 more coming in the next 4 weeks.

He got it pretty quickly too, I think too many folks write Blocker off as some kind of nitwit because of the way he goofs around.

I love the way the doco’s got my partner and daughter more interested in the tigers, they are loving it.

Do they think it is a Sitcom? Or have you had to come clean and explain this is the behind the scenes look at the team you love and support that does your head in every week? ??

For sure ?

The show if nothing else shows people the drama that you go through supporting this team.

I think the genre is horror or dark comedy

I write him off based on his coaching record. He has zero clue.

I was dubious at first about the documentary but it has been great viewing. It’s certainly made me rethink my position on a few people and things. It’s noteworthy the amount of times Maguire references training for eventualities but the players don’t implement. My opinion of Luciano has increased after episode 2 - he seems a real team leader. Also Adam Doueihi seems a pivotal player going forward. His reaction after the Souths game showed how much it meant to him. Against his old team sure but still. Adam Reynolds looked a class act too.
