2010 Four Nations

on the news this morning, they said it was between Lote and Gaz, be good if Lote gets the nod

Where is Chris L ??

Whats the use of being in the squad if you're overlooked when there is an injury in same position you were shadowing.

Note Hayne was to be used as a center and not winger…

I'll be dirty if Lawrence is leapfrogged...

It's not to replace God in the team…it's in the Squad....Where did it say they picked him as a centre??????

The Haynepain is a winger at rep level...Billy the grub is fullback..Lawrence is a centre..

Lawry/Tuqiri left hand side for the Roos...C'mon Sheens...

Go Lortay....

The St Helens prop James Graham has taken over the England captaincy for the Four Nations after Adrian Morley was ruled out of the tournament with a bicep injury.
>
Morley suffered the injury early in Saturday's 18-18 warm-up draw against the New Zealand Maori and Graham will now step into the breach when Steve McNamara's side open their campaign against New Zealand on Saturday.
>
"When Steve McNamara offered me the captaincy I had no hesitation in saying yes," the 25-year-old said. "It's a great honour and I am deeply proud that I have this chance. It came as a surprise but hopefully I can reward his judgment with some good performances on the field.
>
"It hasn't really sunk in yet, perhaps it's one of the honours that only sink in once you've retired. I don't think it's going to change me as a player. Certainly, at the moment my focus isn't on being England captain, it's on winning a rugby league game against New Zealand on Saturday."
>
Graham, who scored a try on his international debut for Great Britain against New Zealand in 2006, edged out the Wests Tigers' Gareth Ellis for the honour and McNamara was delighted to see him accept the responsibility.
>
"James was one of a number of outstanding candidates for the position and I am delighted he is the new England captain," he said. "The natural leadership skills that he shows both on the field and on the training ground make him the ideal replacement for Adrian Morley.
>
"Without a doubt James has been one of the most consistent and outstanding performers both in the Super League and on the international stage. It is those qualities plus his drive and enthusiasm that will make James a very good and successful captain of the England rugby league team."

Thats a bit sad for Gareth… Wonder why he came second???

Maybe they are as ignorant as the ARL and didnt want a Australian Based player being named Captain???

I fail to see the funny side, might be just me though.

I know.
How can they be injured when they have played for 2 months….must be another sheens masterstroke
:deadhorse:

Well if Jarred was carrying a hamstring injury for 2 months he shouldn't have been picked in the first place..so I assume he did it at training…unlucky.. 😢

Plus I laughed out loud cause I don't like him....

Fien, Benji in halves
>
The same dynamic halves that propelled the Kiwis to their first World Cup victory will start against England in Wellington's Four Nations opener on Saturday.
>
Dragons Premiership-winner Nathan Fien has snatched the No.7 role off Wigan's Super League-winning Thomas Leuluai to partner captain Benji Marshall.
>
Leuluai pushes Rabbitohs hooker Issac Luke to the bench.
>
The move is no surprise given Fien's impact at halfback in the second half of last week's 50-6 cakewalk over Samoa in Auckland.
>
His combination with Marshall is instinctive, creating space for the teasing Tiger to work his magic – particularly on the left flank with Roosters centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Warriors try-scoring machine Manu Vatuvei linking up.
>
Fien and Marshall were key in leading the Kiwis to victory over England in the World Cup semifinal and Australia in the 2008 final. Nine players are in the same roles as they were in that tournament.
>
Luke is sure to add spark when injected, meaning the Kiwis have four little men that will cause the English big boppers plenty of headaches both around the ruck and wider out.
>
Other notable changes see Simon Mannering start in the back-row with Bronson Harrison and Jeremy Smith.
>
The Warriors captain was struck down with illness last week, yet he still played a pivotal role in Vatuvei's double against Samoa. A pick-up-dive-pass was a highlight.
>
Mannering's start means Frank Pritchard moves to the interchange.
>
Monmouth 107kg Roosters prop Frank-Paul Nuuausala also makes the bench after being rested last week. He will bring significant punch and aggression to the Kiwis' pack with Adam Blair and the impressive Greg Eastwood paired upfront.
>
Possibly coach Stephen Kearney's toughest call was to leave Roosters wing Sam Perrett out, though, he has been issued the No.19 jersey.
>
Two-try grand final hero Jason Nightingale retains his place on the right wing after a solid performance last week.
>
"It has been really tough selecting this side to play England," Kearney said.
>
"It's a nice challenge to have. We have lots of players pushing for places, which is the way you want it to be."
>
Melbourne forward Sika Manu is again 18th man.
>

DALLY M Medal winner Todd Carney has failed to add a Test jersey to his impressive season of redemption.
>
Carney inspired last year's wooden-spooners to the grand final, but Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens gave Newcastle captain Kurt Gidley the utility bench role ahead of the Sydney Roosters five-eighth for Sunday's game against Papua New Guinea at Parramatta Stadium.
>
With Darren Lockyer at five-eighth and Cooper Cronk the incumbent Test halfback, Carney's best chance of becoming a full-blown Kangaroo was off the bench.
>
But Gidley, the NSW skipper, was selected for his experience and class. He can cover fullback, five-eighth, halfback and dummy-half.
>
Clive Churchill Medallist Darius Boyd has been left out of the side, with Wests Tigers winger Lote Tuqiri preferred for the Four Nations opener.

>
The side won't officially be named until tomorrow.
>
Tuqiri, 31, was only called into the Australian squad this week to replace injured Parramatta star Jarryd Hayne, who has a hamstring problem.
>
While Tuqiri is a specialist winger, most anticipated Boyd and Dragons teammate Brett Morris would be chosen on the wings for the match against the Kumuls.
>
Tuqiri will now make history by becoming Australia's first "triple international". He played for Australia before representing the Wallabies. Now he's a Kangaroo again.
>
Two players will make their Australia debut - the Roosters' Nate Myles and Canberra's Tom Learoyd-Lahrs.
>
Myles will start at prop with Learoyd-Lahrs winning a spot on the interchange bench.
>
Myles played little front-row this year, but he is tough, hardened and competitive and was a standout for Queensland in Origin.
>
The Raiders' Learoyd-Lahrs is a monster who will terrorise the Kumuls pack.
>
Former Test players Brent Tate and Willie Tonga will form the centre pairing after the withdrawal of Jamie Lyon and Greg Inglis.
>
Despite initially being overlooked for NSW selection this year, Cronulla hardman Paul Gallen will be chosen in the back-row alongside Luke Lewis and Sam Thaiday.
>
The bench will be Gidley, Learoyd-Lahrs, Manly's Anthony Watmough and Canberra's David Shillington.
>
As expected, Cam Smith was named hooker ahead of Wests Tigers' Robbie Farah.
>
The players to miss out are Farah, Boyd, Carney, Matt Scott, Dean Young, Chris Lawrence and Greg Bird. Australia are $1.40 favourites for the Four Nations.

**Tuqiri flies straight on to Kangaroos wing**

Lote Tuqiri is set to complete a historic Test return by being named to start on the wing for Australia against Papua New Guinea on Sunday, with Dragons premiership winner Darius Boyd almost certain to be snubbed for the Four Nations opener at Parramatta Stadium.

Tuqiri was called into the national squad only on Tuesday as a replacement for the injured Jarryd Hayne (hamstring tear) and, as a late addition, was thought to be behind Boyd and fellow Dragons three-quarter Brett Morris for the two wing spots against the Kumuls.

However, the Herald understands Australian coach Tim Sheens - who is Tuqiri's club coach at the Wests Tigers - is set to overlook Boyd for the first game of the tournament, elevating the dual international straight into the starting side to make his first international league appearance since 2002.

Morris would occupy the other wing, with Boyd - the Clive Churchill Medal winner - to miss out. When he runs out Tuqiri, 31, will become the first footballer in history to complete the transition from international rugby league to international rugby and back.

The Kangaroos team to take on the Kumuls is scheduled to be announced tomorrow. Boyd could consider himself very unlucky to be omitted: the 23-year-old fullback was one of the best players in the NRL last season and was judged best on the field in St George Illawarra's grand final win over the Sydney Roosters earlier this month. Boyd reverts to wing for Queensland in the State of Origin series, with Australian fullback Billy Slater taking the Maroons No.1 jersey, and has played eight Origin matches in the role since 2008, as well as two Tests.

Sheens, though, spoke this week of the importance of specialist wingers and the undervalued skills required to succeed in the position. It is understood Tuqiri's status as a fully fledged winger has tipped the balance in his favour.

''[It is] a great story for Lote and a great story for rugby league, really,'' Australian captain Darren Lockyer said. ''He's got a reward for a really good season with the Tigers. I'm really happy for him actually. I thought when Jarryd had to pull out … I was racking my brain a bit, and Lote's name sort of came up because he was in the train-on squad. It's really good.''

Lockyer played alongside Tuqiri for Brisbane, Queensland and Australia before the winger's seven-year sojourn in rugby, during which he featured in 67 Tests for the Wallabies.

When they last played together Lockyer was 25\. Much has transpired in the captain's storied career since then. Lockyer has switched from fullback to five-eighth, won another premiership, presided over five consecutive Origin victories and broken the records for most appearances and most tries scored in Test history.

At 33, he has also lost a little hair and sounds a lot more like Vito Corleone. But, having not taken the field since early August when a rib cartilage injury ended his season, he feels not only fresh but excited. ''For me, and I guess a lot of players in our squad who haven't played footy for a while, these sort of days start to get the juices flowing, thinking about footy again,'' Lockyer said at yesterday's civic reception for Australia, PNG, Tonga and Samoa at Parramatta Town Hall. ''Because you haven't played for a while, you're probably a little bit more nervous. You've got to find your timing again … you feel a bit more nervous than you would if you had have played right up until the grand final.''

Billy Slater (Melbourne), Lote Tuqiri, (Wests Tigers), Brent Tate (North Queensland), Willie Tonga (North Queensland), Brett Morris (St George Illawarra), Darren Lockyer (Brisbane), Cooper Cronk (Melbourne), Petero Civoniceva (Penrith), Cameron Smith (Melbourne), Nate Myles (Sydney Roosters), Sam Thaiday (Brisbane), Luke Lewis (Penrith), Paul Gallen (Cronulla).
Interchange: Kurt Gidley (Newcastle), Anthony Watmough (Manly), Tom Learoyd-Lahrs (Canberra), David Shillington (Canberra)

Congrats Lote!!

Off to buy a Kiwis Flag today to wear as a cape! Looking forward to the test at the Cake Tin! Go the mighty Kiwis!

I'd have Lawrence and Tuqiri on the left side. Farah at dummy half.

Agree the first part, Robbie isn't at the Cam smith level just yet I'm sorry to say though he is one of my all time favorites.
