2010 team

Come on ,it's the most important position and player in the side, we have overlooked the signing of a decent first grade experienced half..look at the top 8 half backs ,any one of them could play for AUSTRALIA and have.

I agree halfback is the most important position, but the way things have unfolded over the back half of the year makes us a little bit unique. Benji was shifted to 6 but still ran the show. He basically needed a halfback who was actually a 5/8\. Someone who liked getting into first reciever a lot, and who could take a back seat but also take the creative pressure off when needed. Its not something i would have even tried, but as it turned out, it worked great. Having a dominant 9 also helps with this formation.

I actually fear now if we get a dominant organising half, Benji wont be as effective. I know that goes against most of our thoughts the last 3 years, but the proof is in the pudding with his late season form. So overall, the 3 halfback options we have in Arana, Moltzen and Lui are perfectly suited to the role which the Wests Tigers as a team need. The trouble will be if Benji gets injured, i think then we'll be crying out for a top 7, but in reality, u cant go and buy a top half because u think your best player might get injured. As things stand we are very well placed for 2010.

Thinking about it Sirro I think you have nailed the halfback issue. If we had a dominant half it could disrupt benji more than a lot of people think and to make things worse Robbie could also be removed more from our attack. Thats why I think we should start with the combo we had late in the season except Gallant:Insert Mullaney, Lote , Ryan.

If we sign Tuqiri I would try:

1\. Lazarus
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford
4\. Tuqiri
5\. Lawrence
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen
13\. Fulton
12\. Heighington
11\. Ellis
10\. Galloway
9\. Farah
8\. Cayless
–---------------------------------------
14\. Flanagan/Taumata
15\. Moors/Dwyer/Mataka/Akeripa
16\. Payten
17\. Gibbs

OR

1\. Tuqiri
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford/Lawrence
4\. Lawrence/Ayshford
5\. Tupou
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen
13\. Fulton
12\. Heighington
11\. Ellis
10\. Galloway
9\. Farah
8\. Cayless
-----------------------------------------
14\. Flanagan/Taumata/Lazarus
15\. Moors/Dwyer/Mataka/Akeripa
16\. Payten
17\. Gibbs

Mullaney and Lui really need more time in Toyota Cup, or maybe NSW Cup before they play first grade. Lui needs to improve his defence and work on his speed. Mullaney will be a good first grader but is a bit too small at the moment. I don't want him to get bad injuries when he is young. Don't rush him into first grade.

if we end up signing lima and tuquri i would throw this team out in the trials and see how they go:

1.Tuquri
2.Tuiaki
3.Ayshford
4.Lawerence
5.Ryan
6.Marshall
7.Moltzen
8.Galloway
9.Farah
10.Gibbs
11.Ellis
12.Payten
13.Heighnton

14.Flanagan/Taumata/Fulton/Lui
15.Cayless
16.Lima/Gower
17.Gower/Moors/Lui

would anyone else mind seeing lui playing second row off the bench?
i personally wouldnt mind it. his the right size and gives us more attacking strike power if needed at some stage. a ball playing lock even.

perhaps..but not for a few more seasons regarding lui..id start him out at lock though..more of a fulton 05 - 07 role.

yeah..but i can seriously see it as a real benefit for the team especially in attack…He can be like feleti mateo. similar builds and style of play

Putting a ball playing 5/8 in the second row??? 😱pen_mouth: That's one of the more bewildering calls I've heard. I'll be very surprised if Tuiaki plays in the trials, he might be back by round 5 or 6 depending how well his injury heals and he's going to hav a very disrupted off-season as a result.

If Lui plays at lock or second row ever I will be very surprised, its a strange spot for him to be playing habibsta33 why do you think he could be suited to those kind of roles?

i think it would suit him because he reminds of feleti mateo in the way he plays and body shape. he has a good offload and with folkes on the coahing staff he could get the best out of him. im not saying its going to work but its worth a try. who knows we might or be suprised and he could do anything, thats what trials are for. it wouldnt be the first time a team has tried something like this before.

he doesn't have the tackling technique…..it would need a hell of a lot of work if he was going to be a first grade lock...

Sheens gets lambasted for manufacturing players...he's a 5/8th leave him in the halves........

Lui could play Lock in first grade one day IF he improves his defence ALOT

I'm pretty sure that if we do end up snarring lima, gibbs wont be the one falling off the bench. More than likely the forwards will be Lima, Farah, Galloway, Ellis, Heighno, Fulton, **BENCH - Gibbs, Cayless, Payten and another one**

Even now i'm looking at that bench and thinking it may be a bit top heavy - very front row orientated. I think if that is the case then someone may be headed out. Perhaps payten (who i think is fantastic - half in a props body!!) who is a bit older.

im pretty sure if we do snare lima which i dont think we will. it should be like this so the bench isnt top heavy and can be changeddepending on how u want to start a game with muscle up or a versatile pack.

Where does everyone think Flanagan is going to play? I'm not to familiar with with him is he a Utility? If so where does he usually play? I am very excited for 2010.
