2012-2013 Football (Sokkah) Thread

Happy with how Everton are shaping up, kept all of our key players and brought in some depth and new options for Martinez to work with. Will be happy with a top 6 finish again, hopefully this time getting us a spot in Europa, although I am not very confident of finishing ahead of Liverpool this season. Would also like another good purchase.

They held on to Baines and Fellaini did they? United could really do with Baines.

At the moment they are both still at the club, Fellaini missed our last trial overnight (he was injured but maybe he is onthe way out), Baines played and all evidence is pointing to him staying.

Gee I hope we hold on to Fellaini. Ross Barkley looks the goods though, so maybe he's being made into his replacement.

Really interested to see how Deulofeu goes.

James McCarthy looks like being a potential replacement for Fellaini (and falls in line with Martinez's recruitment of Wigan players). I agree about Barkley though, another one to look out for is John Stones, had an absolute blinder against Juventus in the states in the preseason tournament, including an audacious chip shot when the game went to penalties.

I also am keen to see how Deulofeu goes, kid has huge wraps on him.

Guardiola's insistence of playing a false 9 seems to be waning

that can only be a good thing.

Good competition for places in central midfield which is something we've never really had in the past few years.

Ribery, Robben, Shaqiri, Kroos, Gustavo, Martinez, Schweinsteiger, Thiago, Gotze

Take away from the first night
-Arsenal fans hate Wenger
-Man U still go alright under Moyes
-Liverpool still create a boat load of chances yet fail to capitalise on most (still got the 3 points but they should have wrapped that up a lot sooner, almost lose 2 points for not finishing Stoke off although in their defence Begovic was incredible)

Haha so not much has changed from last year?

Watched the United game. Swansea looked to trouble them with heavy possession on the first 25-30 minutes and once United got their quick fire two goals, Swansea went to water.

I was getting excited before I went to bed that The Hammers may haye have been on top of the table with f/a

Then I see Aston Villa got a late goal v Arsenal and then Man U won big time

West Ham as usual created a thousand chances and played well without Carroll

Joe Cole had a very good game last night as did Nolan

Cardiff hardly tested the Hammers and on that performance will only last a season in the top flight

You forgot to add that poor refing has caught on in EPL. Arsenal v villa had the most one sided refing I'd seen since a tigers game with maxwell.

Arsenal were poor but crippled by the officials at the same time. Still a long season to go so hopefully they turn it around quickly before it's too late.

Benteke playing very well for Aston Villa to

I suspect he won't hang around much longer. If I were Villa I'd be whoring him off to the highest bidder, he'd pull good $$$

If he keeps it up wont be surprised if he leaves in Jan

Chelsea hijack Spurs bid last minute for Willian. Abramovich rang the owner of the club he was at after he had a medical for Spurs..

Another Chelsea fan :righton:

They're looking good so far under Jose. I'm expecting a top 4, even would go for top 2 finish this year. Game against Man United on Tuesday should be a good one.

Frenetic start by Liverpool against Man U last night. I thought the goal was a touch soft with Ferdinand doing a bit of ball watching along with the two defenders on the line giving Sturridge room. Some dangerous looking players among the Liverpool team and they seem to be enjoying themselves at the moment (well, 3 from 3, why wouldn't you?). They will be a fun team to watch this season. About time the Scousers had something to smile about.

I thought the ref was hopeless and it was fortunate that a Suarez type wasn't playing or it could have got well out of hand. The better team won however so he will live to see another day.

Moyes now has the full set, a win, a draw, and a loss. Can't see the pressure easing on him any time soon, or the comparisons to Ferguson and where the team would be placed at the moment if he was still around. Some people will conveniently forget some of the shocking starts to the season United had during Ferguson's career.

Good to see Arsenal roll spurs. Has been a massive improvement in defence over the last half of last season and beginning of this one. Normally defending a 1-0 lead for them is just like a tigers defending a 6 point lead with 5 to go, always nervous times.

Ozil will be a massive signing if finally approved, plus one or two others and may actually have a squad with depth for once.
