2012 Halfback Super-Thread

I reckon Prince will be a great acquisition if the Gold Coast take a large portion of his cap on their books for the remaining 2 years.

Buying him at full price would be a mistake.

exactly, agreed 100%.
i dont think Lui will be forced out, but if he is, a discounted salary Scott Prince would be a great option.

we wont get prince at a discount, Gold coast wont release him and pay some of his contract. In fact I think it is unlikely they will release him at all.

In defense of Carney, he will be another year older and that little more mature, one would think. Mr Sheens could do something with him I believe, as not many players leave the Weststigers on a sour note or disgruntled. Where as Mr Smith seems to have problems with certain players or certain players have a problem with him. If Lui is released, which I hope he is not, then Carney is worth a shot for me. Sheens did have a chat to him before he signed with the Chocks. On Prince, he is not washed up just yet, he would bring a wealth of experience, a positive image and further contribute to the generally good publicity that this club generates.

The more i think about the return of Scott Prince the more i hate it. Its a step backwards. Manly backed youth in Cherry-Evans, Warriors backed youth in Johnson over Seymour, and Locke over Hohaia, and young Stig at Newcastle did some good things. Youth is the way to go, not over the hill players.

What are you talking about? There's heaps of young players coming through at the Tigers, in fact Lui was one of them. They invested 3 or 4 years in him and he was seeming like the answer, they didn't expect he'd pull this **POST EDITED BY ADMIN**. Moltzen was another one, but they let him go too and that leaves us with a huge hole, and at this stage of the year they're not spoilt for options. They need the best player they can get, however old he is

I dunno where all this Prince garbage started, dunno how much weight it carries, hopefully very little, they way he left and the way he's been playing makes me feel I hope its just more of the usual garbage we read on here

Yep Totally agree Ink Prince coming back would be a bad thing
He is not going to move his family back to NSW imo More likely to end up at Broncos if anything with Lockyers retirement

It was given some weight by Tiger99.

Well he left, he left for his family. Probably one of the most noble reasons to leave a club and yes, he has had a bad year, but he won the Daily M halfback just last year. He had issues with the 6 alongside him this year.

There are also rumors that the Titans may not want him. So, given that, Scotty might be our best option. I can only imagine the positive effect it would have on the team.

Titans have Beau Henry, Srama, Rankin, new kid Aidan Sezar and apparently are looking at Carney (who could be a catalyst).

I want to see Miller line up next year, but I certainly wouldn't get upset if Prince was there.

Hammer I thought I saw Cartright rule Carney out virtually straight after their last game

Fair enough. I didn't see that. I had heard a lot of chat to the contrary.

Well I think they need someone senior in their backs, so for me, that would really lessen the chance of Prince (unless there is a Lui/Prince swap)

Have people read this yet?

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/insider/todd-carney-screws-up-again-outside-elle-halliwells-house/story-e6frewt9-1226145272853

yes it's the DT, so take it with a grain of salt.

Is this a joke??

He was outside my house….Couldn't get a lead for a story so goes with outside her own house, with a quote from a 'patron' about him hitting the dance floor. No one else claims any trouble??

Besides you can tell it is a rubbish story when she calls his hat pink. In the picture it is clearly maroon and it clearly looks as if he is wearing someone else hat the way the girl is trying to grab it off him.

Whould laugh so hard if it came out, sorry can't have been Todd he was in Queensland. Leave this guy alone.

The footage I saw, showed a drunk bloke getting a cab home. Not driving his own car home, not smashing into a car. Getting a cab home. I've never had massive amounts of sympathy for Todd Carney, but it is not illegal to have beers with his mates and catch a cab.

Yeah spot on. Leave the bloke alone - he is not contracted to any club, he can have a drink if he chooses to, and getting a cab home - responsible attitude.

In any case Yoss, I reckon only Bennett or Sheens would able to keep Carney on the straight and narrow. Sign him up for a single year deal and have a no grog & zero tolerance clause on it and breath test him at training. He messes up, instant dismissal and request with the NRL to deregister him so that stops him signing from any other clubs.

I reckon Miller is ready for a shot, but we shall see at the beginning of next season depend how the Lui case will play out.

Hey CB: If Sheens couldn't keep relatively mild mannered Lui in line- how is he going to control Carney, and I don't think our sponsers would be very impressed. However I do agree we should give Miller a go 😕

That's a fair assumption to make on the surface, but people are different and are influenced differently by those around them. By that logic, if Lui got sacked and went on to play for Easts, he would be less likely to get into the same trouble as Carney, but we know that's not necessarily going be the case as the party life is synonymous with Easts.

Because Lui is a nice bloke 99% of the time and then goes on to do what he is alleged to have done (twice might I add,) why does that instantaneously mean that Carney couldn't benefit from a mentor like Sheens purely on the basis that Lui didn't work out?
