snake ur dreaming theres no way miller is anyway near ready. needs one to two years in nsw cup.

NSW Cup will do bugger all for him.

It'll toughen him up, and determine just if he can tackle or not.
That said i'd be prepared to give him a year developing in firsts…only time will tell if he can crack it.

So as a supporter you would prefer to go into season `2012 just hoping and praying that we might be a chance of improving on this season, rather than sign someone like Todd Carney or keep Tim Moltzen, preferably both and be near certain that we will improve on this season?

Worked for Manly…

I think Moltzen should be our half next season because we can cover the fullback position easily Joel Reedy, John Grant ,James Tedesco and Tom Humble all potential full backs and in the case of Humble also a part time half-back ( last resort) .

There is another option for Half-back and that would be going onto the player market. Here are in my opinion the top half-backs on the market in no order
Scott Porter
Todd Carney
Tim Smith
Matt Orford ( May not watch another game if we sign him )

I believe Scott Porter is a guy who with a fresh start could really be a good halfback in the NRL. Worth a look in.

It is difficult to get excited about the names on that list. The clear option is youth. We have a good one with Miller. Other young options who I believe are/could be NRL standard are Chad Townsend, Gary Riccardi, Jordan Meads, either of the 2 Cowboys halves from the 20's Morgan or Parker-Walshe.

None of them are better than what we have, all of which will be better than all of the above (excluding Carney) by some distance.

I agree with what you said about Scott Porter, tigerman2005.

I know he isn't a superstar but he will get the job done. Has a good kicking game and can control a game well.

I wouldn't be upset if we signed him, that's for sure.

If Scott Porter is our halfback we can start booking holidays for September. There's a reason the guy can't crack a regular spot at the Sharks even though they have one of the weakest roster of halves in the NRL. He's hardly the type of half that concerns other teams - he makes Daniel Mortimer look like Andrew Johns.

I reckon Scotty Porter does alright. He's not a world beater but put him behind a quality pack who have a go and give him some pace and creativity in the backs he could be a surprise packet.

Agree he has no backline but the forward pack at his disposal was pretty handy
Gallen ,Snowden,Tupou ,Douglas ,Morris and Jeremy Smith
As good as the Tigers I would say

I'd rather have John Morris back instead of Matt Orford

Gallen and Smith were the only two consistent performers.

Snowden and Douglas were shadows of their former selves this year, Morris is a trier and Tupou was patchy. Our forward pack is much better.

Talking of halfbacks a big story about Scott Prince in todays Sunday Mail No mention about him moving clubs but something I found quite funny was how they thought he was still the third best option at half back for Qld

On last years form I would have him at least behind 6 other half backs Thurston,Cronk,DCE ,Sandow,Lui and Travis Burns . There are guys actually in Qld Cup that are probably ahead of him .
Anyone I may have forgotten ??

Repost from Maloney Thread.

While I will always welcome any player to my club another #7 > James Maloney Not For Me at this stage.

I really liked what I saw of Jacob Miller (Mostly defensively which indicated heart) and with Moltz able to support Benji and Robbie out of the #7 if needed, I think we can work on keeping the cream of the crop in the years to come with any available funds.

Lets not forget that this guy is a bit f an NRL journeyman that had 1 great year

I don't think that Maloney is the answer to anything.

Miller doesn't seen ready, but neither did DCE and he blitzed it. Maybe he just needs an opportunity.

I really like what I have seen on YouTube of Dane Chisholm. He has a running game and can pass. Not sure if he can kick.

Orford offers nothing! Nothing!!

Old thread, but stumbled across this, could not let this pass, comments about DCE, coming from the clouds , therefore someone else may are just wrong.
DCE was amazing in NYC, went to Q cup despite many calling for his NRL debut, he than dominated Q cup.
Quality players like DCE don't come from no where, to hope someone will is folly.
