2015 Side

Realities:

- Lawrence will be there

- We desperately need a (currently) quality back rower to give us oomph. Solely relying on impact from bench front rowers ran out of steam for us this year.

Big Keith will be there as well as he has 2 Yrs left on his contract. We need a couple of new Players, Good Players big time.

And that's exactly why Sironen should be coming off the bench and Sue starting

We need to have a clean out as we have some of the best juniors in our ranks and do not want to miss the window of opportunity to win a premiership in the next 5 years.

My team

Teddy
Nofo
Simona
A quality centre if not try Fine or Seve
Richards

Moses
Brooks

Blair
Akoula
A quality second rower or try Sue.

Woods
Farah
Lodge

Bench

Ava
Taupow
Sue
Gravet (if his head is screwed on)

Depth

Austin
Brown
Sirro - still can not understand the fuss with this kid. Maybe his famous name
Thompson if he doesn't leave us for more coin
Hitchcox
Lawrence to convert to a second rower in the pre season and state cup
Lovett
Under 20's hooker
Halatua

See you later

Galloway
Buchnan
Keith Luilia
Moltzen
Luina
Patterson

Need to review Coach and Support staff. Need to hire a coach to look after our young halves and develop their skills and kicking games.

Yes totally agree with that Happy - Sue certainly changes the dynamics. I think he would be starting by now if not for the injuries he's suffered. And hopefully Curtis comes on with a new roving game plan.

I still think we could do with a high quality established back rower though…

Seeing there is really no quality centers on the market, What about a Timona tahu?

He has experience, is on the outer at Newcastle.

Could sign him For minimum wage, on a short term 12-24month deal, will not bust the bank. But will give us some depth in our outside backs.

Will allow our juniors a bit more time to develop, and worst case, he ends up playing nsw cup.

Risk is minimal, if attitude is right, and sprinkles a mix of representative experience into our young team.

After all, he couldn't be any worse than Lawrence currently.

I mentioned this in another thread , but am getting the feeling seeing they have picked him this week to play NRL is that he might be getting a final swansong

He is 34 I think

I think your spot on there Happy, this will be his farewell game.

From zero tackle

Dual international Timana Tahu wants to keep playing in the NRL next season but said it will not be at the Newcastle Knights.

The 33-year-old former NSW and Australian representative said incoming mentor Rick Stone, who has been coaching him in Newcastle’s NSW Cup team this season, will not be offering him a new contract for 2015.

‘‘I’m still keen to play football but it definitely won’t be at this club. Rick Stone’s already talked about that,’’ Tahu said after training on Wednesday morning.

‘‘But I still feel like I can play a couple more years and I’ll finish on my time.”

Phil1986 has just cleared that up, don't know where his going to go cause I don't recall him playing even 1 game this year.
Maybe the Raiders will take him, who knows?

Re: Our halves our future

I'm an impatient guy but our young halves are our future. I'd like us to try and field this side next year but it would take a huge off season for a few players especially blake Austin who would need to bulk up again. I would make a play for the unhappy Steve Matai.
1\. J. Tedesco
2\. P. Richards
3\. S. Matai
4\. D. Nofo
5\. T. Simona
6\. M. Moses
7\. L. Brooks ( both sides of the ruck)
13\. B. Austin ( Glenn Stewart role)
12\. B. Thompson ( not sure if he has signed in S/L?? )
11\. A. Blair
10\. M. Lodge
9\. R. Farrah
8\. A. Woods
14\. M. Tapau
15\. C. Sironen
16\. Ava
17\. J. Sue
18\. M. Cherrington
19\. C. Lawrence
20\. J. Gavet
And so on.
I love this team on paper

After tonight I've revised it. We need to let Austin develop. To hell with the "Dynasty" Austin should be looked at as our future club captain let alone our six. This side offers balance.

1\. Moses
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Fine
4\. Tedesco
5\. Richards
6\. Austin
7\. Brooks
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Lodge
11\. Lawrence
12\. Taupau
13\. Santi

14\. Akauola
15\. Seumanufagai
16\. Blair
17\. Galloway

Lawrence and Taupau are far more likely to run the lines we need backrowers to run. Sironen plays way too much like a five-eighth still, doesn't just hit holes and run lines. This is Lawrence's best remaining strength. He'd still be fast for a backrower and I can visualise he and Taupau hitting holes at speed and being real weapons at it. Brooks and Moses in particular will love having these guys as options in closer. Both should train full time in the off season in the backrow. Taupau is well fast enough and is too much of an attacking weapon to be confined to prop.

Fine and Tedesco in the centres looks a hell of a lot better than this years options, both are fast and good defenders. Fine looked great tonight, was difficult to put down and the defense on his side of the field looked a million times stronger with him and Richards there.

Richards needs to step up but I still see crazy value in his kicking and ability to read the play. He'll be better after an off season. Nofoaluma picks himself when uninjured.

Santi looks like he has a lot of energy and I could see him playing a Fensom role for us at lock and I think he offers more than Blair now. Blair has been okay this season but I wouldn't be re-signing him so we need to phase him out of the side over next year.

Galloway and Blair off the bench for experience. Akauola as an impact player or replacement for outside back injury. Ava is a rock.

9\. Farah
8\. Woods

Interchange
Sironen
Gavet
Lodge
Moses

I have assumed Austin won't be there- if he wants a release there is no point keeping a player who doesn't want to be there
Had enough of Blair and Lawrence, like to see Santi and Lovett get a go next year
Simona has played his best on the wing ,Nofo is a strong runner

Tedesco

Lawrence (as a second rower/utility)
Lodge
Halatau

The reason I left Galloway and Lawrence in the side is because the provide experience to a very youthful side. I understand that most people here don't like them, but they bring leadership. We can't just have a side with most players under 22 playing against much larger men. After Richards retires (probably at the end of the 2015 season) move Teddy to wing and put Fine in at centre.
