2019 Coaching saga -Thread

So we know we don’t have much wiggle room in our 2019 cap, how about 2020? Who’s off contract that we can punt in order to use the money elsewhere? Brooks will likely be upgraded, but I’m praying there’s some room to buy quality players

Yeah
Bring in Johnson to partner Brooks
Move Reynolds to 14
Benjie to retire

So we have McGuire.

Meh it's an upgrade. A small one but an upgrade. He is not better then either Siebold, Bennett or even Des. But he can pick up of Cleary's side, has worked with the NZ squad and knows Cleary's recruits.
Happy, I take your point and it's a good one. Then again he got Souths the Premiereship and he kept the side together better then Paul Green did at the Cowgirls.

I was looking at Griffin too. I know the dramas at Penrith but he did get their side performing. I think we do need a hard nose not a soft one. I suspect that Griffin will be poached by the Titans as a runner up prize, won't Bryce Cartright love that. If he isn't he would be a good assistant. (also gives the anti Gus crowd another member).

@ said:
Even when it seems there's no more drama… We need to create some... God knows why

Bingo. BTW how did you change from a balding anglo saxon man to a asian woman?

Drama aside. McGuire can help build us. The aim this year should be to go 9th -> above 6th/fringe 8.

Luke but dont touch!@LukeFluencyReplying to @BWTF_
Wow, tigers fans hey! Bring in a premiership winning coach to replace a coach who will leave your club in a better predicament than when he arrived…I’d see it as an upgrade but I guess there really is no making you lot happy is there

He gets A++ …..... Toovey would gave been a whinge after every game disaster.

Yes did you look at his record with recruitment ??

Every player he recruited in his time at Souths left or was maimed with injury in the case of Glenn Stewart

I printed the list on another page

Yes he won a premiership , I wonder why , look at the side , he had blokes who palyed SOO that same year on the bench

Inglis
Johnstone
Auva'a
Dylan Walker
Tuqiri
Keary
Reynolds
G Burgess
Api Koroisai
Dave Tyrell
Ben Teo
John Sutton
Sam Burgess

Jason Clark
McQueen
Turner
Tom Burgess

After that they scrape into 7th , and then back to back 12th position

Exciting reading after the premiership hey

Claim I'm a sook , no I have high expectations for my club that I pay my membership to …......., and I like to hold people to the same accountability I hold myself to EVERYDAY

You get to a resort and they claim to be 5 star , and the pool is half empty , full of critters and the beds are full of bities and the air conditioning doesn't work ............what do you do ........???????

You want to accept mediocrity year after year , that's fine , that's not my go , that's all

Just remember Pascoe sacked our last coach to get this coach , the second this coach he recruited got a better offer he bailed , and now we are back with a coach who is extremely similar to Taylor , the best we could get because of our past success

Pascoe and Go also claimed Cleary was going nowhere , would see out his contract

Remember that interview ??

I'll support Maguire 100 % like I have with Pearce , Lamb ,Sheens , Potter ,Taylor , Webster ,Cleary and now Maguire

But I'm telling you he will be a massive failure , and just as it looked we might turning a corner

****And someone needs to take responsibility , Cleary has said as much that he mentioned to the club he wanted to coach his son during the interviews , Go claimed that wasn't an issue at the time (comments on league life ,check it out you don't believe me )****

Well Marina 18 months later it became a bloody very large issue didn't it ...........

Cleary was the right choice , AS LONG AS HE SAW THE REBUILD FROM GO TO WHOA

So where has that left us .............................back in purgatory

Thanks Justin and Marina .........but that's right ,it's Cleary fault , but remember you hired him :bulb:

Happy to be proven wrong but i'm sure when Go was interviewed on League Life she said when Ivan was interviewed for the job it was NEVER part of the package for him to bring Nathan. She also stated that Ivan had complete control of the salary cap and that if he wanted to sign Nathan up that was entirely his call. Like i said mate, i'm, happy to be proven wrong.

No you are 100% right, I saw the interview on FOX, the main part of that interview was that Ivan had complete control to bring Nathan if he liked.
So Nathan not coming is more Cleary's fault than any one else.

So if this wasn't an issue and IC had full control of the salary cap (which was said totally agree ) should of the next question been "if you can't get Nathan to sign with the WT's , what then "

Marina has said it was a non issue , yes it was HUGE issue , it is the TOTAL issue

Again it adds further petrol to the fire meaning that Pascoe and Go both fell for IC lies

That's why these people earn the big bucks for …...read a big situation and make the big call and GET IT RIGHT

Nathan Cleary wouldn't have been the right fit (many on hear totally agree without getting our forwards right first ) .....so why was that even part of the discussion and if IC thought he was part of the equation at that time he wasn't the coach

Then they didn't see that Bennett wasn't playing us off for the Souths job

And they couldn't recruit the coaches son

We have 3 bad decisions that the leadership group (throw Egan and the bloke from the Saints in as well ) have made in one single decision

Yes but they are the way moving forward

Stop believing the club palava /fluff , use some common sense and think about it

It hurts me just as much as you blokes that yet again we have turned up a one way street , but we have unfortunately

“We didn’t appoint Ivan and one day his son, or ‘if I want to go and work with my son then you need to know I’ll leave’. That was never on the table at the time and maybe it should’ve been if that was his intention, but it wasn’t apart of the conversation.

“We didn’t say to him ‘we’re going to appoint you, Ivan, and hopefully you’ll bring your son to us, or ‘oh, I’d like to bring my son, okay’. That was never part of the deal.

“This is a professional relationship. Yes, Ivan has expressed to us he’d love to coach with his son and naturally we’ve said to him you’re in control of the list at our club, we’ve got our salary cap under control now which we didn’t have years ago.

“If Nathan were to join our club he’d have to work with our current players because we value Luke Brooks and Josh Reynolds, so he would have to be in that mix.

“Ivan knows all of that and that’s Ivan’s wish to.

“We certainly haven’t said to him ‘no you possibly couldn’t do that’, so we’ve said ‘if that is part of your wish, then you can make it happen because you’re the coach’.

They say it wasn't a question and shouldn't have been

WRONG :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick:

The most bloody obvious question

Don't worry what the hell would I know , probably done more interviews than Pascoe and Go combined :deadhorse:

There are some really depressing souls on here.

We have a new coach and he has my full support until he is not.

Memo for the Wayne Bennet cheer squad.

Where did the Broncos finish last year 6th.

Now lets get fair-dinkum to my memory were gifted or were extremely lucky in at least three games.

Round 2 against the Cowboys when the ball hit the goal post padding.
Round 3 against us with one of the worst refereeing decisions all year.
Round 9 against the bulldogs an extremely dubious decision in the 78th minutes that enabled them to win.

His real Legacy should be defined by
1-A draw that year after year affords them more 7 day turnarounds then any other club.
2-Facilities amongst the absolute best in the NRL.
3-Access and money to ensure best support staff.
4-Club membership about the highest in the NRL, access to more TPA's because they are the club that represents the whole of the Brisbane metropolitan area.
5-Access to more juniors that any other club.
6-And amongst the best roster with at least 6 Origin or International players to work with each and every year he has been there.

This is what Bennet had to work with, and how many premierships has he won with all this 6, in what 26 years, should have won at least 12.

So don't carry on about what he would have done for the Tigers, it was never on, all too hard for, "Old Wayne", if we had signed him for 3 years he wouldn't have seen out the contract.

Truth is Wayne has been on the wane for sometime, go and ask Paul White.

Which is exactly what I said as well before you start taking pot shots

I've backed Lamb and Taylor as well to the hilt and felt I should have been renamed Hanoi ….... bombed repeatedly from all angles

My point which everyone seems to be totally overlooking is our leadership team who everyone seems to think are the second and third comings of the Messiah respectively managed to get the worst ranked coach of all that were available

And yet they are still on everyone's Xmas card list

I think the word I am looking for hypocritical .......though as usual some enjoy playing the quoter and not the quote itself

And then you return serve and then they the play the victim card ............

Its a bit like those blokes in the bar who act like heroes and will take on the world and then when you call them out and they join the "touch me an I sue " crowd :bawling

Man you are so right Happy.
How many Pseudo musclemen do we have in society? Guys who talk such bravo, but run at the drop of a feather.
Not saying everyone is like that or a particular type is like that, but man I hear so many weekend warriors brag off and their absolute pussies! (hey I am a wimp, but I know it).

I see it in these forums, I see it in real life. I just see it everywhere. Full time whingers who you ask to back their points and they just run.

Not saying that everyone is like that, but boy you have some armchair coaches. Not sure why you get flammed so badly. I remember Stryker too getting hit in the forums. Your ideas are no better or worse then anyone else's.
It's a game of footy people. I don't back Wests Tigers because we got a premiereship in 2005\. I back them because we play a fun entertaining game and my birth ground is Campbelltown.

Well played, Gus Gould, well played.

Once again, our club is the laughing stock of the league.

For all the huff and puff about not letting Cleary go, Penrith well and truly called our bluff.

It's an untenable situation to keep a coach that has signed elsewhere if you're a club that's intent on rebuilding. This much is obvious.

As fans, we deserve way better than what's being dished up by our chair and CEO.

They've been totally outsmarted, failed to meet their self appointed KPIs and have repeatedly made bad decisions that are impacting on the future of our club.

This is the last straw for me. I'm calling on our CEO to be replaced immediately.

I'm very glad that you and happy tiger have little influence on the club if that's your summation.

Transformations are slow. You can't expect us to be on the same playing field as clubs like the broncos straight away. People who can't see that were on the right path and have knee jerk reactions like this are the reason we are where we are.

Go, particularly pascoe, are the best signings we've had in years.

We've got a premiership winning coach, a coe on the way (mostly funded from govt since we have no money - massive feat!), largest member base ever and nearing financial break even.

You two can't be serious….

You said it yourself, 'transformation'.

Yet we can't retain those we put in charge of the transformation.

Go and Pascoe are pretty good at blowing their own trumpet, but they've failed where it matters.

In the most two recent instances, management and the chair:

1 - Publicly backed a sub-par coach who caused major turmoil, only to sack him after the damage was done.

2 - Got comprehensively schooled by Phil Gould, losing a promising coach mid-rebuild.

Nobody expects us to immediately emulate the success of the Broncos. What we do expect is a competent leadership team.

Bravo Bravo

3/ End up with a coach whose style is very familiar to the subpar coach in point 1 that almost everyone hated

I see no one countering Happy's point about Nathan Cleary…just having a go at him...

It is extremely valid ...it derailed Ivan ..set us back on what was built...early on this season it became obvious with their various interviews on Fox...for management to say it wasn't an issue shows they dropped the ball and not without blame...
