2019 Coaching saga -Thread

**Maguire no thanks we could do better**. Wayne would be a great choice although personally Des Hasler would be my 1st choice

So why have we appointed potter,jt and Cleary? When we could do better…unless you rate them higher than Maguire? Maguire has just turned down manly because of there facilities in the last few days. Is concord better equipped than manly?

Haslers fallen too far behind the game , which is why he was so out of touch with the bulldogs,
Bennett’s said no, and wouldn’t coach a club like ours anyway, he wants premierships , to rub the Broncos face in.
Plus the Shine has long gone.IMO

If Penrith wait till 2021, why are we sacking him now?

There’s no evidence at all that we are :unamused:
But we are far from being in the driving seat if we start talking sackings.

Disagree.
I'm led to believe that SFX Sports :bash :blah and particularly Michael "Madge" Maguire :righton: are the key components in current negotiations being held between three clubs :dead in question.
I wish them all good luck :brick: :bash :blah :rant to satisfy all parties involved.
But right now I think also that WT are taking the tough stance and the worst case scenario for them is that they hold Cleary to his 2 years contract…... which to me is totally unacceptable outcome to all other parties.... and particularly Cleary and Panthers.

If Ivan fully intends to be here for the run of his contract as he has said he will , the only 2 ways available is to keep him or break his contract and pay him out,
For WTs to be playing hardball is wishful thinking, if Penrith don’t mind waiting that’s all they have to do
If WTs want McGuire they have to get Ivan to leave (which they can’t make him do), or pay for two first grade coaches, and that’s hardly going to happen no matter what the club says.

But if IC wants a better chance of winning a grand final with his son his best opportunity might be in the next 2 years

I might have missed something along the way but aren't there a couple of major assumptions in your comment. I haven't seen that Manly's facilities were the reason Maguire said no to coaching them and I haven't seen anywhere that Bennet has said no to coaching WT. Unless I'm wrong I'm assuming both coaches are still in the list of possibilities.

It’s simple either Bennett or Maguire for 2019.
Either is good. I wouldn’t wait a year for Wayne he will have other options Maguire won’t.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m happy for either of them. And if Bennett isn’t available then Maguire it is.

They could pay Cleary and Neil Henry and still have dough left over, than hiring Unca Wayne.

Here's a link to an article regarding Maguire not liking Manly's facilities

Haven't heard, read or seen anything about Bennett not wanting to come here though.

I wish someone would just muzzle Elias permenatly. He is an embarrassment to himself, friends, and the Wests Tigers community. Never has anything constructive to say and he is so old hat he should have stayed in the last century.

A dope who talks a lot.

If a bloke like him joined your table at the pub, big-noting and spouting nonsense, you'd up and leave.

Was actually in a corporate box at Shark Park one Tigers game a few years ago. Bouncing Benny talked his way in, joined the conversation group… I'd never met him before and I lasted about 5 minutes!

I'm not so convinced that Maguire is a great coach. One Premiership with a very strong Souths team then nada! Souths weren't even competitive in the following seasons. Bennett has far more runs on the board, imo.

Agree with you Spud - don't think Madge is the answer.

Thanks, you're correct. I mistakenly conflated comments from two posts and attributed them both to you. Hadn't seen facilities as the reason Maguire knocked back Manly and, I agree, if he doesn't like their facilities he won't like ours. Maybe one glimmer of difference is our commitment to a centre of excellence.

As things stand right now, that is EXACTLY what would happen, right here on earth. IC has a contract with Wests Tigers to coach our club. If Penrith just sit back and say "we'll wait until 2021", then the ONLY way we could get rid of him is pay him out.

If Penrith wait till 2021, why are we sacking him now?

I’d love to be as sure of winning lotto as I am sure that bennett won’t be seen around here anytime soon.

Maguire is a superior coach to Des. People have short memories with him. He never lost the squad Souths players love him he lost talent: Tuqiri, Teo, McQueen, Dylan Walker, Sam Burgess etc and never really signed anyone to replace. The squad got stale after staying too loyal. He would learn from this but staying loyal after a gf is not going to hurt him at WT.

He left Souths in good shape they just needed a new voice. Seibold added Gagai. Maguire won a premiership has a near 60% win ratio. He also recruited and brought through Cook, Cody Walker, Johnstone and others. Left the cap in good shape also.

Seibold gets the wraps for turning it around which is fair but it’s Cook who deserves most of the credit,

Haven't heard, read or seen anything about Bennett not wanting to come here though.

I’ve heard him say twice this week ( once at the Broncos big presentation)that he will be coaching the Broncos next season, so I think it’s safe to say he’s boesntnesnt to coach here, as he’ll never get another chance to do it.

Great interview with Maguire on the Matt Johns show a few weeks back. A very honest account of his coaching experience with Souths, what he learned from that and where he is at now - we could do a lot worse than appoint him as our head coach.

6 premiership with a squad of Australian and SOO players, great record I’ve 30 years.

If the report via nine news a few days ago is anywhere near accurate, they stated whilst Bennett remains our top target, we are still in negotiations with madge.

Oh well if Ivan said that it must be true :unamused: If Penrith said they don't mind waiting that must be true too :unamused:

If we want him to leave we go to Penrith and say if you want Ivan for 2019 this is what it's going to cost you and then the negotiations begin. Public comments like "we're happy to wait" and "I'm happy to see out my contract" are just posturing to protect their legal position and their position in negotiations. If you cannot see through that then you're welcome to come and play poker with me any time…

Seibold got coach of the year for turning Madge’s squad into a top four team finishing just short of the big one.
But didn’t Madge do exactly the same in his first year with the Bunnies after inheriting John Lang’s squad. 2012 prelim finalists…
