I got no problem him getting his money. It was his and he deserved it. Im questioning the smarts of a club that sacks a bloke that takes up$600k of our clubs cap while playing elsewhere. Then bring him back a year later.

No. You said Tigers paid him **_to play elsewhere_**. That is simply not true. He was paid money he was owed for previous years. If it didnt come off 2016 (2017?) cap it would have and should have come off earlier years caps. Quite clearly they couldn't accommodate that at the time and it was pushed back. It has zero to do with him going elsewhere. And of course the Tigers saved a stack of cash because Souffs paid that **_actual_** contract amount he was due that year ( another $600k) so that at least saved that much. If Robbie Farah accidently had both legs cut off and could no longer play footy and retired, Tigers would not have saved one additional cent. They saved money and the money you are talking about was owed for previous years. If you cant understand the maths of it, I cant help you.

So he didn't take up any of our cap space in the year he was at souths?

I thought he did.
I actually thought he took up a huge amount(in the first year).

He absolutely did. We all know it, not sure what Glennb is on about.

"But the former Kangaroos captain is far from alone — millions of NRL talent remains unsigned, including Jarryd Hayne and **Broncos stars Corey Oates and Tevita Pangai Jnr.**"

Giddy up.

Youd think he would only come if a few players agreed to come with him. Lodge off contract too.

We hold all the aces….Penrith must be made to cough up big dollars for a starting point....Tighten the screws Wests Tigers.... :sign:

I dont see how you think this. Penrith have all the aces. Penrith have IC signed for 2021-2024 on big money. We have him signed on a contract for 2019-20\. **Penrith are in a position to sit back and have Gould coach them through Ciraldo for as long as it takes.** On the other hand we would have a guy coaching us who doesnt want to be here, lost respect of the players, constantly dogged by media AND we would lose all possibility of signing Bennett.

I think the best we could hope for would be Cleary leaves with no payout. We are not in a strong position, through no fault of our own.

You could also say Penrith have a coach treading water knowing he's keeping a seat warm and ready to be flicked at a moments notice… That could be construed as holding a pair or 2's

I agree Ink.
Penrith are desperate to get Clearly next year. We need to know this and hold out until they ask for it.
While we are waiting we need to start planning for next year.
Gus wants us to pay for Clearly to leave. He is a bully trying to get his way.

I would think that a suitable arrangement could have been made with ,Ciraldo, in the event that Ivan can get there for next season,
I’m aybe, maybe not.

If Bennett comes for 2019 which players are likely to follow

I think we have 2 spots maybe 3 available
Who much cap left I'm not sure but the more the better

At the end of 2019 season we have a host of players coming off contract which will free up more money and room
Bennett is a smart operator
Im am sure we will see some big roster changes if he does end up coming
Love him or hate him
If Wayne signs on to Coach our team he WILL be the best and biggest signing this club has ever made
There is no one more experienced than Wayne and he is exactly what this club needs now after Cleary
Bennett always takes a clear approach in all he does

I wouldnt be too certain that Bennett would be the best thing to happen to our club though mate. Knights supporters would of thought the same and Unca played a big part in bringing their club to its knees for a few seasons. The bloke has permanent PMS so therefore would lose interest very quickly in coaching our club if he didnt have immediate success. Just like he did at Newcastle…....got moody when things got tough: played the "I've lost the support of the dressing sheds" BS card and got out of the place quick-smart.
He has form.

Im glad someone mentioned the Newcastle foul up.

My Father who will remain nameless is a physio at Newcastle and has been for a long time.
He saw first hand what happened at Newcastle between 2012-2014 and one thing i should mention was Bennet got Newcastle to within one game of the Grandfinal in 2013…........let that sink in.

Nathan Tinklers love of old Newcastle rejects started the demise when they re-signed Willie mason,Clint Newton, Timana Tahu and Kade Snowden.
Bennets additions were out of towners like Boyd(Obviously),Gagai and Russel Packer to name a few.
And the fact Tinkler declared financially ruined and did not pay the players who got them to the Qualifying final that year including Part of Waynes salary.
Once he and his Newcastle players received the payout he walked.
Tinkler was the reason the Knights got drained, Bennet left as soon as he was paid out and to be honest i would have too.

On what planet would he have the right to a pay out from us :crazy

As things stand right now, that is EXACTLY what would happen, right here on earth. IC has a contract with Wests Tigers to coach our club. If Penrith just sit back and say "we'll wait until 2021", then the ONLY way we could get rid of him is pay him out.

If Penrith wait till 2021, why are we sacking him now?

There’s no evidence at all that we are :unamused:
But we are far from being in the driving seat if we start talking sackings.

Agree Balmainian

I'm good friends with the father of a player from that side and i know the player well

Have been watching him play since he was 5

They were happy with Bennett

Tinkler got greedy

Made poor decisions without consultation

Lost the ability to fund the club

And bingo

It all came crashing down

Over $700k we paid from our 2017 cap for Farah to play at souths, plus Siro's money to manly cost us close to 1 million of our cap, JT you moron

We obviously dont have to. We could chose to have a coach with no loyalty, no respect from the players or fans and who will be constantly hounded by the media at every opportunity, all the while missing the opportunity to sign good talent and missing the opportunity to sign the most successful coach of all time.

or….............

Complete rubbish and since Gallagher doesnt know what Im on about, Ill explain it one more time…..slowly.

Gallaghers point he is trying to push, is that Pascoe was not smart in allowing Farah to play for the Tigers and in fact it cost the Tigers $$$$$. This is rubbish.

The previous administration ( to Pascoe) under Grant Mayers leadership decided that they couldnt afford and couldnt wear under the cap $ 600k of Robbie Farahs salary in 2014 & 2015\. With Farahs (gracious) agreement, all agreed to defer payment of this money and it was back ended in his contract. In 2017 this money was owed to Farah and was paid to him. It was supposed to come out of the Tigers cap in 2014 & 2015, it came out in 2017\. This money was payable to to Farah and would have come out of the Tigers salary cap if Farah played for the Tigers, Souffs, Parra or if he retired and never played again.

The Tigers tried to get rid of Farah PRIOR to Pascoe https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/wests-tigers-set-to-announce-justin-pascoe-as-new-club-boss-after-he-quits-penrith-panthers-20150903-gjenna.htmlarriving. Under Pascoes leadership, Farah did indeed leave to go to Souffs. If he did not, he would have cost the Tigers the $600k he was owed PLUS the $600k for that years salary. Therefore he would have cost the Tigers $1.2M out of the Tigers pocket AND out of the salary cap. Pascoe allowed him to move on and signed a player for less than $600k and saved the Tigers a heap of money. I dont understand what part of this you dont understand? Yes there was some incompetent management in this but it was under Mayers leadership when they back ended Farahs money, nothing to do with Pascoe,

Correct. He played for souths and it came out of our 2017 cap. We then re-signed him.

He was never coming here, he & the Broncos stated that on Friday.

Ivan Cleary's management also started he hasn't agreed to terms or signed a contract to Coach the Panthers from 2021 either..

2 pretty common facts i would have thought, Newcastle making a prelim and Tinkler being totally incompetent. But there aren't too many blemishes on Bennett's resume, so the critics have to pick at whatever they can.

#fakenews

What Wayne said was that We (as in the Broncos) will be back in 2019\. One journo has turned that into him committing when clearly it isnt that at all in fact by avoiding saying he would be back it's prob more likely he is gone
