2019 Coaching saga -Thread

Good result for us
Potentially good result for Brisbane
Poor result for Souths

Last time we signed a premiership winning coach it worked out.

Bennett has had his day.

Seibold has had a great start to his career but it's a risk still.

I'm happy with this development, if true. I think Maguire will put more into it because he has something to prove. Good job Pascoe.

Maguire is a great outcome. If you look at it we have managed to get a first class coach. Cleary’s reputation has taken a hit, the club has shown true professionalism throughout. We’ve really turned a corner the last couple of years and with the centre of excellence and western Sydney stadium on the way we are looking in good shape.

This is a very disappointing outcome. I have to say I expected more from our Board.

It’a all a part of the development of the club. A few years ago we were going from Mick Potter to Jason Taylor. Now we are going from Ivan Cleary (rat) to Madge.

If we keep building our supporter base is as big as anyone’s, our training facilities will be top flight our stadium will be first class. We have juniors from Leichhardt to the Southern Highlands and a powerful leagues club and hopefully 3 in the future.

Somehow if Balmain can get back on their feet and some of our wealthy supporters get involved the club can be a powerhouse.

Madge is the safer option for us at this point in time and he is 44 there is a chance if we get it together he can be a long term proposition.

Well written and thought out.

Great appointment and a massive upgrade on Cleary. To bigger and better things with Madge. A curse on you and your son Mr Cleary. Don’t let the door hit you out on your way.

I agree with the rat part and also note Maguire looks much older than 44.

I’m interested to know if we stuck to our guns and forced the Panthers to cough up cash.

I think we are just waiting on that $500k transfer from Gus before we announce Madge here and Ivan gonneeee.

X6 - also well thought and written. I hope Cleary gets fired again by Gus. That would make me feel very warm and fuzzy.

My next prediction is Cleary holds off on asking for a release until the 11th hour to force the club into making a snap descision desperate to get this all resolved before 2018 ceases avoiding the scenario of having 2 coach’s on payroll for 2019.
Hence Cleary walks away with a revised payout to force him to go.
I mean if I was Cleary’s Manager that would be the advise I’d give him. Actually I bet Bennetts getting the same advise also. ‘Same manager’
‘Advice’

Yoss am with you, I said a million pages ago if it came down to Uncle Wayne or Madge I would take Madge. Based on Bennett being a walking side show, and we don't need that, we need a hard man who is basically a quite achiever. Anyway its not done yet but if it happens its not a bad result. Okay Madge is basically unemployed, but he must have faith in us, because ask Jason Taylor your career as a coach can go down the drain very quickly

I think Clearys obsession with coaching his son has clouded his judgement. I still think we hold all the aces and Clearys obsession with coaching his little boy will see us get some money. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gus makes the Clearys pay the compensation out of their $10m family deal.

Prefer Madge over Bennett

Ditto, but I must say, we were always VERY long odds to get Bennett. Madge had been spoken about prior to the grand final so in the end we got our man.

Cleary release has been nutted out, right from day one there was no way on Gods earth he was coaching us in 2019\. Right back at the start of the saga I sent Pascoe a email, basically saying in my experience most people are frogged marched out of the building when exposed talking to the opposition and what was going on. I got a cryptic reply at about the same time as the 1 minute press release, basically saying wheels are in motion.

Anyway nothing offical yet, but who ever has the clipboard in 2019 is a upgrade on Ivan. Good guys who betray you are 100 times worse than bad guys who betray you

I prefer McGuire for a host of reasons but your contention that Bennett has 'had his day' is a stereotypical response based on age. In 2018 that no longer applies. Bennett's strength is not his technical knowledge but his ability to connect and to form relationships with players and their families. This is particularly important with the Polynesian boys, based on their family values and the importance they place on faith. In addition Bennett would have forgotten more about the game than most coaches know. He may be post pension but he's a smart operator and there's not many of those in RL

Thankfully this is over.

We have done well getting Michael Maguire. Bennett may have brought more clout but we now have a hard nosed coach who has a proven track record.

Good job Justin and co, now give this guy the resources he needs to get this job done.
