So are we going to make Penrith pay up or grab some of their young talent perhaps, or meekly drop our pants and let Gus take his liberties with us ? Unfortunately as a tigers fan I already know the answer.
If we don't get compensation the whole board should be sacked.

Best hope will be cash compensation , but Gus will talk his way out of it

God knows what we will do with the cash , plonk it all up on Winx to watch it break down ….....

Someone is trying to sell some of Winx’s poo on e-Bay . It’s already over 5k. We could try and get some of that for the new training ground at Concord COE.

Disappointed about Bennett, but that was really only ever going to be a short term arrangement if it had come to fruition. Madge hopefully coaches us for a decade. Good pick up. Credit to Pascoe.

This is a very disappointing outcome. I have to say I expected more from our Board.

Really? What did you expect? If Moses won’t do come down from the mountain what the hell are supposed to do?
We got a best coach currently available to start in 2 weeks. Duh!!

I expected our Board to demonstrate more vision towards the future by signing O'Brien or the Broncs assistant if Bennett didn't want to come. To me, Maguire is yesterday's man and the strong sense is the Board grabbed a name, any name even if it isn't a particularly good one in an overreaction to the potential loss of Cleary.

Maguire now not only has a huge task ahead of him to prove he isn't yesterday's man but also to recruit high calibre players to the club.

Premiership winning, highly regarded, NZ coach will be aware of what is needed. He is used to winning and not a unproven shirttail holder assistant coach which we definitely do not need.
Glad you didnt get for our CEO gig. Or did they see you coming?

I think the board has turned a shit sandwich into a last nights roast beef and tomato sauce sandwich (with salt and pepper). I get what you are saying about vision towards the future, but at 44, Madge has plenty of future left in him. Also by all reports when JT interviewed for the role a couple of years back, he blew everyone away with his vision for the future and his very detailed profile on all our players and strengths and weaknesses etc and we all know how that turned out.

you may end up right, but i pray you are wrong

Like i told you in another thread, we will not be getting players. The sooner you can come to terms with that the better. There's nothing to suggest we won't get financial compensation, however we will never know for sure, as the club will never disclose that kind of information.

I believe experienced coach like Madge will take a softly softly approach to a situation like ours.
No use throwing baby out with the bath water. We have 2 spots available on our roster and that should be sufficient if recruited smartly
Next year we have a bunch of players off our books and money in the bank including build up os carry over savings in our salary cap. That’s the time to strike! Same with support staff …. minor changes only.
Only qualifier would be if there is an arrangement for some players that want to follow Cleary and the club would be comfortable to let go from their existing contracts, which may expand-clear our list and cap space further for the coming season.

I’m very happy with Madge. Won in England , won in Australia, what’s upsetting about hiring a dual premiership coach.

You'll see , modern day Brian Smith …....will destroy us long term

What is there to destroy? We are rock bottom already. Lost our best juniors, a coach sacked and one who jumped in quick succession & haven’t played finals for yonks.

Seriously some people just can’t be pleased.

Madge has an extremely positive CV and is coaching an international team that beat the Aussies let alone has worked with the refs as well. We are lucky to have someome with his depth of experience and winning qualities leading our team over a rookie coach.

Pascoe gets an a+ from me considering the circumstances.

A+ for the 5th best coach …..that will do me

So Teflon Pascoe avoids any flak , even though he was solely behind getting the coach that has set us back beyond where many claimed Taylor /Potter /Mayer left us

Did the club even seriously consider Toovey ....was he even spoken to .......

No comment in regards to Toovey, but as far as Pascoe avoiding any flak i think it's a bit unfair. He has been betrayed by someone he regarded as a close friend, and when the crunch came has made it clear and backed it up by his actions that the club must come first. There won't be any Christmas cards exchanged between those two this year.

I bet Paul Crawley has enjoyed the whole thing, he was going hard for Ivan but the supporters shot him down.

Yep I got that one very wrong.
Thought more of Cleary but in the end his situation became unattainable at WT. Still think he did a very good job in short time he was with us in putting up a framework with potential to build a very good side with few astute player sign innings in next couple of years.
Am sorry to see him go but he sort of made quite a few mistakes in this coaching saga which will haunt him for rest of his career. And working with Gus and his son may be the catalyst for that.

Have we actually got Maguire yet? Or are we all just assuming because Bennett has signed elsewhere we have Maguire? Has there been an official announcement yet? Serious question, I'm not trying to be a smart arse, I honestly may have missed it.

Keep the praise coming, you might convince yourself Maguire is actually the coach we need.

Seibold was an “unproven shirttail holder assistance coach” until Souths took him on.

Yes, we definitely do not want someone of Seibold’s calibre in our joint.

Stephen Kearney was an assistant Melby coach also. They aren't all great.

(I would have been happy with Obrien, but every coach is a gamble)

The club had no choice but to try and sign the coach with the best credentials and that was either Bennett or Madge.

It was not the time for taking a punt, they would have been crucified if a punt had not turned out. ALl focus now bust be on getting our roster upgraded, because no coach will have any real success which the overall talent we have available. Just a pity the new coach has very little wriggle room with the roster for 2019.

never thought bennett even considered coming here.
if the new training facility was going to be ready within 12 months, maybe a shot, but not in our current state.

madge i believe is the perfect candidate for where we are.
just wish we had the facilities to help lure players over.

yeah, i don't think either Cleary nor Madge have put pen to paper yet. So when they do this whole thing will be over?? will it?

I don't think there were a plethora of high end coaches to choose from, and with the success Madge has had with the Bunnies, in England and with the Kiwis. I'm extremely pleased with his (unofficial) appointment, looking forward to 2019 and beyond

And from what I've read, Bennett really didn't even consider coming to the Tigers, maybe fleetingly if he had no other choice. No loss.

Stuff Cleary for his actions, absolutely ridiculous. I hope karma bites him on the rectum big time.

I think some people on here aren't happy unless they're sad.

I think you're right. With the Cleary defection, the club had to either make Cleary see out his contract or make a coaching upgrade.
