I agree with everyone that it was the lowest possible way for the players to receive the news and I absolutely feel for each and every one of them right now. But is no one else not concerned about the Board’s role in all this?
Sorry to be a buzzkill, but I honestly thought the Board was responsible for informing the players. Even more so because matters were still in negotiations as late as today. I’m only concerned because if Madge decides to drop a player, I don’t want to see it splashed all over the news.
So I guess I mean, I just hope the Board are more vigilant with everything from here on in.
I think the fact that negotiations were still being held as late as today probably made it impossible for the club to inform the players of anything. My old fashioned view is that the players are paid to play and the club tries to provide them with best coach that they can, under all the circumstances. I doubt that Maguire would drop a player unless it was a face to face situation, which means after the tests between England and NZ.
I actually think the board and in particular Pascoe, who had management of the negotiations with Bennett, Maguire, Cleary and Penrith, with all of them being in different countries a lot of time, did a great job. Bennett says he gave this club serious consideration but in the end, wouldn't come here in 2019\. I think it's a toss up as to which coach would have been best for us but I see Maguire as a long term proposition and is the best fit for us.
From me, a big "well done" to all concerned.
Aah okay I get that. Just found it weird that the club never informed them given the highly publicised speculation around our coaching future.
Of course. I think it was a monumental task for the club to achieve, considering Maguire is in England and pre-season is just round the corner. So I totally admire their efforts.
I’m honestly beyond shocked for the type of treatment our boys got from Ivan at the end and hope the media circus follows him and doesn't linger around the club. So wasn't really doubting Maguire's communication skills with players but basically curious as to what the Board's typical role is and if they enforce certain standards, or rules or whatnot, to players talking with the media (solely because they're representing the club).
