2019 Coaching saga -Thread

I’m honestly glad his cowardly act has been exposed to the media but I’ll be relieved when we finally announce Maguire.
I agree with everyone that it was the lowest possible way for the players to receive the news and I absolutely feel for each and every one of them right now. But is no one else not concerned about the Board’s role in all this?
Sorry to be a buzzkill, but I honestly thought the Board was responsible for informing the players. Even more so because matters were still in negotiations as late as today. I’m only concerned because if Madge decides to drop a player, I don’t want to see it splashed all over the news.
So I guess I mean, I just hope the Board are more vigilant with everything from here on in.

I think the fact that negotiations were still being held as late as today probably made it impossible for the club to inform the players of anything. My old fashioned view is that the players are paid to play and the club tries to provide them with best coach that they can, under all the circumstances. I doubt that Maguire would drop a player unless it was a face to face situation, which means after the tests between England and NZ.

I actually think the board and in particular Pascoe, who had management of the negotiations with Bennett, Maguire, Cleary and Penrith, with all of them being in different countries a lot of time, did a great job. Bennett says he gave this club serious consideration but in the end, wouldn't come here in 2019\. I think it's a toss up as to which coach would have been best for us but I see Maguire as a long term proposition and is the best fit for us.

From me, a big "well done" to all concerned.

Aah okay I get that. Just found it weird that the club never informed them given the highly publicised speculation around our coaching future.
Of course. I think it was a monumental task for the club to achieve, considering Maguire is in England and pre-season is just round the corner. So I totally admire their efforts.
I’m honestly beyond shocked for the type of treatment our boys got from Ivan at the end and hope the media circus follows him and doesn't linger around the club. So wasn't really doubting Maguire's communication skills with players but basically curious as to what the Board's typical role is and if they enforce certain standards, or rules or whatnot, to players talking with the media (solely because they're representing the club).

lol Jason Taylor never has to worry about a thing ever again…

Burn Cleary from the stake...what an absolute impostor...

For God's sake, let it go.

Huh.? Where did I say in my post that we were linked to more than two Coaches ( notcounting the one that was here already)

It wasn’t just us, that have turned themselves inside out to try and come out on top.
You obviously haven’t read much of the forum, newspapers, or watched much Tv , if you don’t think that there were daily doses of theories on Coaches movements Club activity , players moving with Coaches etc,

Good to see that you are still trying to push your version of the chronological order of the happenings, your trying hard, but just not really getting there.
Your version makes interesting reading, Pity if someone who was there at the time comes out with their real version,

Since you want to keep going with this. Surprising how no one seems to mind, but everyone was so quick to give me advice about giving it a break.

We are talking about the tigers here mate, tell us the multiple theories that were being branded around. You go round in circles but don’t really offer much of an argument.

You are unbelievable.
Are you seriously not aware of the last 140 or so pages that are dedicated to the subject here, both about us as a club , as well as all the other particements in the coaching version of War and Peace

I’d suggest that you go through the previous pages, and you’ll find plenty of theories about us and everyone else involved
TRY reading some, as it’s clear by your posts that you dont
I gave quotes where possible for most of the points that I made, but I I can’t remember one single quotes from you, just guesses,
Sources aren’t quotes , sources can say anything , just like yourself. .

Mate your sound more and more stupid with every post. Once again I ask you what theories involving the TIGERS are you talking about. There was only one theory going round about Ivan and then it came down to madge or Bennett to coach us. You had your head in the sand through out this whole sage, you now look like an imbecile and your still carrying on. Just put your head between your legs and walk away.

That's ummm fairly disgusting from Cleary, it's like a txt breakup

Shame Bennett couldn't get here a year early, but he wants to see out his contract and the Bronco's don't want to pay him out….........even though it's all an "untenable" position.....

After all this drama, I hope Madge sees out his time here and extends if all goes well.

I said it before and I’ll say it again - I can’t wait for the opportunity to front this grub and tell him face to face what I think of his integrity. I’ve never even considered doing this before but this bloke promised the world and has let thousands of people down.

Promised the world??
He didn’t let me down, he just showed the whole league community what a knob he is.
Yeah he played it out all wrong but that’s his burden to carry.
You can only speak for yourself Steve.

Well that’s correct Balmainian, I didn’t actually canvas thousands of people before I wrote the post. But if I did I reckon the evidence would be on my side. Just a hunch

Hit him with both barrels Steve.

Mrs Cleary must be a very proud mum&wife.

Nathan has conducted himself with integrity in his dealings and seems like a nice kid IMO.
Ivan on the other hand has proven himself to be a total gutless germ who will have plenty of people around the game wishing he falls flat on his face after his weak, spineless antics.
He has also rightfully earned himself the new nickname of "Ankles"…... as in "lower than a (insert preferred body part here)".

Let’s look at the positives. Maguire takes over a club in a very similar position to his previous club that he took to a premiership.

I think he will enforce disciplines of hard work and accountability. He will be desperate to show he is not a one trick pony (which is the knock on him currently).

Let’s hope he brings a hard edge without burning them out. Jury is out on his ability to attract and retain talent and general man management. If he wants a long coaching career he needs to kick a goal with wt.

Cleary had me on the Bus, I met him @ a few Lunches & he seemed like a really nice bloke. I am terribly disappo inted in his actions & think what he has done to the Players Fans & Club is just a low act.Hes the one whos got to look @ himself in the mirror every morning but has probably Ten million reasons to not worry, anyway we have a new coach & i wish Maguire all the success in the world & go the Wests Tigers.

Tampon is another name I could think of “Closest thing to a (insert body part here) you can get”

Nothing surprises in Rugby League anymore. At the end of the day it's all about money ….. contracts, loyalty, honesty are all things of the past. Sometimes I wonder why I bother to be passionate.

Would love Brooks to step up again and take Clearys position at state of Origin level
Would love to see Clearys face if that happens
But he would have to come out from his hiding hole for that to happen

As I post at the very start of this fiasco, Ivan has done a huge amount of damage to himself.
Someone who prided himself on integrity, he is now damaged goods.
No journalists will believe a word he says from now on.
I can’t wait until the first post game presser, when Paul Crawley asks him a few curly questions about his defection to Panthers, l can’t stand either person but if could be a few feathers flying.

Remember when Crawley locked horns with Cleary after a press conference and we crapped all over Crawley. Seems we owe Paul an apology.

Yep ….. I apologise. Got it totally wrong.

We were only ever linked to 2 coaches Bennett and Madge. What planet are you living on? What different theories are you talking about. It was one consistent story. Ivan meets with Penrith, asks for a release, Tigers say no, Cleary signs for 2021, tigers speak to Bennett/Madge, madge signs, Cleary released. Don’t try to re write history now.

For God's sake, let it go.

You two cut it out or you can both go on mod review.

Going to be interesting out a penrith next year. Surely when they go thru a bad patch some of the players will be looking at the coach and thinking you only got this gig because of your son. A few loses and he could be easily undermined. Hard to take someone seriously when nepotism is a reason he got the job.

Very good post tigerbenji…I hope others see the situation as you do....calling Ivan names, threatening to humiliate him at games etc etc are signs of emotionally hurt people venting..in the end Ivan was offered a bag load of money as well as the opportunity to coach his son that the WTs couldnt prevent or match...Nathan has been paid a huge amount of money to stay and play with his mates, thats his call and has nothing to do with the WTS,Gould has a lot to do with Ivan defecting to the Panthers as Ivan always wanted to coach Nathan in the future and Panthers wanted the origin half to stay..
A sticky situation, but it is done now and we will welcome Madge to Concorde....some one mentioned Mrs Cleary in a post...to me that is a no go zone the woman should be kept out of it as this media circus must be impacting on her and it would be low of anyone involving her..
