My initial reaction is a little “meh”, but I’ll reserve my final judgement until I see how they look on the field and tv screen.

I have wanted to buy a Wests Tigers jersey for years but I can't bring my self to pay for a jersey that has advertising on it. I have been sponsored myself in sport and proudly wore gear with advertisers logos and had sponsor logos on my race car. There is a big difference between supporting a club and supporting their sponsors. I am not sure this is even a logical argument, it is emotional, I really hate it.

Because the sponsors are paying the Club $$$$ to promote their brand and part of that value is exposure on merchandise. So when you pay for merch with the sponsors brand on it, you are increasing the value of the exposure to the sponsor and therefore raising revenue for the club.

I dont mind the sponsorship on the shirt, we just have to live with it.

But I often wonder based on our game, is the primary sponsor position on the chest really the best location? Youve tackled someone, or have been tackled, or youre holding the ball......all covering that primary position.

I'd prefer across the back, below the number or down the side of the sleeves.

Fair enough, totally entitled to that view.

My point was merely that if the club sold the merch without the sponsors, the value of the sponsorship to the club would be less and the club would receive less, so there is a benefit, just not directly to you.

Its also hard to make the sponsors logo. In the past it was really to make out Phillips,Victa,Penfolds etc

In my case they made less income because of the advertising. If most people don't care or just live with it then the club is ahead.

The club has many sources of revenue, some I contribute to, some I don't.

It's the club jersey, you took money from a sponsor but baulk at someone else doing it?

TBH, I don't know of any sport that doesn't have a sponsors name on the shirt?

I love the new jerseys. Distinctly WestsTigers but with respect to our heritage clubs. I hope these are our jerseys for many years - no more changing every year. Keep our home and away jersey consistent.
