According to commentary ‘off with a suspected injured face’

Those commentators were hopeless. - "Broken face"

Would have been good if they named the players instead of
useless info and trying to be smart a---s

Surely we can get someone better to call the game.

Who are they - I know their names but who?

The commentators are a lot better than Rabs, Gus Freddy and that moron Johns.

I see how you are joking there. At least I hope you are Rusty.

Does anyone know why we didn’t just keep benji on a low money contract as backup? Do we just put it down to another standard poor management decision?

No, I put it down to management and coach knowing the game, knowing what we need and what we don't.

However, basically not wanting a geriatric selfish ball hog, who wants to run the team and is not capable of doing so.

Russell now that Marshall is gone do you see Brooks coming into his own ,and do you see the side in the eight at seasons end . Because in my view anything else is a fail

I don’t know about any of that but I for one will be glad not to hear the constant worshiping when Marshall is in frame.

Goanna, I don't see anything else than t he 8 as a fail as anything can happen, multiple player injuries would not help the cause. If all things are equal I do think we can make the eight.

With Marshall gone I do see Brooks being more comfortable leading the team around, a better pack will also help. I do think if AD is the 5/8 then Brooks will have no excuse for being dominant. If Laurie or Madden are playing 5/8 I don't think he will go as well.

Thanks for the info - can see why he is a former Fox presenter.
Well they need to get someone else - whenever they are thinking of using him and the other dope again.

Most of these blokes had a good hit out and had a taste of what it would be like against older seasoned players…hope they keep improving as the year goes on…

That would be good except the side the Rorters fielded included players with 0 NRL game experience..not 1..ooh unless you count Brad Abbey....and most not even State Cup

Yes this really concerns me also.
Only 1, One player Fletcher Baker in that trial is part of the Roosters first grade squad.

Now with the new rule change to teams getting access to the 2nd tier cap. All these players are available for depth.
What’s that 60 players loosely contracted to the roosters?
And yet we fielded a side with 8 players of first grade experience and about 10 of them being part of our top 30...

Which side suffered the most injuries last year?.... hmmm.
Which team has a coach on the NRL rules committee?... hmmm.

Guess what guys. We are 5 steps behind the rest of the league, like always......

2nd tier Cap...?

Is that the Rorters other filing cabinet...

Good point. But has it been confirmed how it will work this year yet?

How what works..?

Same as pre-covid...Can only play NRL if you have a top 30 NRL contract...Development contracted players permitted to play after Round 11 but an exemption need to be sought..

2020 Development players were allowed to play with exemption from the restart as Squads were in the bubble..

No bubble as yet..

So it’s not offical yet that players outside of that and in the reserves teams can be used in addition to the development players?

Not that it helps us much.
There would be about 10 players outside of our 30 squad that trialled last night that would be decent enough for reserve grade.

Not sure what you mean official...Not since 2017 when the 2nd Tier cap was abolished have players outside NRL contracted players that can play NRL..

That hasn't changed..

Ok I cannot find the article that confirmed the change but it appears players can be signed outside the 30 on train and trial deals as part of the 2nd tier cap I guess.
They along with the dev players are available for selection from round 11.

This is weird from the above article... Former Raider Brad Abbey put his case forward for earning a Roosters contract with a solid stint at fullback before leaving the field for a head injury assessment....

Abbey is on a train and Trial with the Rorters currently..if he can play with that contract..why would he need to earn a contract..

I didnt think "Train & Trial" was a contract. I thought it was just an agreement that yes you can hang around with us and train and we will see how you go, if you go good enough we will offer a contract.

Unf last night was probably the least illustrative trial match in history, given almost all the players hadn't played competitive football for 12 months.

Roosters basically won it with an intercept, and I watched a fair chunk of the second half, where we threw a few costly intercepts.

The other hard part of this match is the number of players still trialing for a contract, so you have a lot of boys trying to get their mits on the footy and not necessarily develop a game plan over 80 minutes. For example I think it was Zach D-Clay in the second half, all over the football in and around dummy-half, though I thought Liddle was supposed to be the active hooker. Not that ZDC was absolutely no good, but it looked like a lot of touch football from these fringe halves.

Madge said it himself - you put some of these young talents and fringe first-graders in with the senior players and everything changes about what is expected of them and the support in place around them.

Roberts-Davis- Poor performance,Laurie should of been starting fb and a big mistake was made here

Well, unless they're planning at putting Laurie at 5/8 for the suspended Douehi in rd 1.

The plan was obviously to see how Laurie went in the 6 with an eye to him playing there in round 1. I wouldn't consider it a mistake.

watched the game back, this is what I've got.

Laurie and Stefano are ready for first grade and should be in the side come Round 1

Simpkin looks the goods but can't pass right to left, would still expect him there Round 1

Talau still has a lot of issues defensively. was reasonable in attack but if he's a long term centre he needs to be a far better defender

Hoffman is an absolute prospect

Madden still needs time

Liddle will start the season at 9

Tuki Simpkins will debut this year but is still probably another 12 months away from playing consistent first grade

if Chee-Kam is anywhere near the side let alone starting we're in big trouble.

Seyfarth looks an improved player, but also wasn't playing against grown men.

Tuilagi definitely worth keeping tabs on after a development year, will be one to watch for the Magpies this year.

Kiah Cooper absolutely deserves a permanent contract. Fitzgibbon will most likely get one too. Roberts-Davis no chance. Kepaoa should've played last night and started at the back. Rogers-Smith and Rodwell certainly deserve consideration. Docker-Clay surplus to requirements if Hastings does in fact turn up in 2021.

Who was the player who went off with a broken jaw?.

Seemed to be a bad one as well, I was on the opposite side of the field and it looked obviously broken.

So maybe the Madden fan boys will back off a bit after tonight
A few had him a walk up start for 5/8
Based on tonight a LONG way to go, if ever
People really have to stop talking up these kids with no FG experience, it’s tiring.

Thought he went okay for the half hour or so that Liddle was feeding him. Nothing special, but felt that he held his own during that period.

Not saying he won’t be good, just getting a bit sick of some who constantly rave and push untried young players. Some on here were carrying on like he was the second coming of Benji. Give the guy a break and let him develop.
