Talau was very disappointed with how he played after he came off.

he should have been - he should have had more class than his opposites. he really missed a chance there. He needs to take every chance he gets.

Just like the whole team now.

Would’ve liked for him to play right centre, feel as thought it is where he is most comfortable.

Also, agree with your above summary.

Move over Tom Trbojevic - a promising Wests Tigers forward has put forward a strong case for the unluckiest player in the game after the opening round of trials last weekend.

Rookie prop Billy Stapleton missed all of last season through COVID-19 and had spent the summer training with Michael Maguire's first grade team.

But on his very first carry in the 28-22 loss to the Roosters at Camden on Saturday, Stapleton suffered an horrific jaw injury.

The red-headed prop - son of Tigers board member Danny Stapleton, was rushed to hospital by ambulance where x-rays revealed two fractures.

Thompson will undergo surgery today and is expected to be sidelined for at least two months.

"It's terrible luck for the kid," a Tigers spokesman told Wide World of Sports.

"After not being able to play all of last year, he got his chance, trained with the big boys all summer and now this happens."

My take from the ground is as follows.
.
Tuki Simpkins is NRL ready.
.
Laurie is a classy player who needs an off season or two in the gym to reach super star level.
.
Liddle has his body spot on after an off season or two in the gym.
.
Stefano rolls the ruck nicely and has a nice change of direction. Petero Civoniceva style.
.
Madden can lead an NRL team around the park. Needs football to get out the rust.
.
Talau will come good, just not on the wing hopefully, would be better at centre.
.
Seyfarth is a keeper. he has improved.
.
I like William Kei.

.
My hot take of the game however is that young Joe Tapairi is the half we have been looking for. Struts around and runs the team like a good half should. Carries himself like the good ones do. For his age and development its rare! Comparison wise i see him as a mix of a Shaun Johnson or Thruston type player. Heres hoping he can be half as good.

I thought Joe Tarpari looked pretty good too in the short time he was on the field. Surely a good prospect:+1:

Why do people keep wanting to take backs and put them in as locks. So far we have had Leilua, Douehi and Talau moving to lock. Our scrum is going to look awfully strange when 4 players pack in as locks. Tim Sheens tried it once with Beau Ryan and he got smashed. Backs are not built to be forwards and very few make the transition

Really looking forward to team announcements on Tuesday (hopefully). Madge saying he’ll pick a squad of 24 then the Magpies reserve grade squad as well will give us a great indication of who has impressed,

It's exciting to see who will play what positions and what sides they'll be on. Interested to see what sides our second rowers and centres play and interested to see who gets named on the wing besides Nofa.

I think Talau had a mixed bag yesterday, he made some horrible reads in defence though looked damaging with the ball.

I would probably have AJ in front of him at the moment for the second wing spot.

Talau is an interesting one. I don't think he's a winger, not fast enough and makes a few silly errors a game. Can run nice lines and is great in attack at centre but defence really lets him down. If he can fix that up he'll get that centre spot for himself, I'd like to see AJ on the wing over him as well

Been saying for a while needs to go into the forwards.

Yep he's a lock imo

Hes the next MCK IMO

Well, fancy being stuck with that label.

Who is Thompson from the Mole article?

Secondly - two jaw fractures (no attacking of the head ruling).

We didn't even get a penalty!

Talau is ! His hole running and strong defence make him the prime candidate. Like Lewis, Graham, Sironen, Schuster is next and so is Talau. These big bodied boys who are simply too big for a 6 . The reason people want it is because of Sonny Bill Williams , and what a skill full edge forward can do for your team . Garner came through the grades as a winger / centre as well.

Terry Randell,Beetson,Ellias,Lewis,C Smith and many others started as backs.

I was answering his question directly as it was related . Ie. why do we constantly move backs into forwards . And the reason is , when you run a simple X pattern , as an example , to have the ball player be able to hit the under , who is big strong fast and skill full , or the out ball , who is big strong fast and skill full. Throw in a dynamic fullback who can ball play , lightning fast wingers , and the ball player himself being dangerous , means anybody who gets the ball is putting the fear of god in the opposition. Some like Luci ,kikau or David Fifita , are guys who were identified early , others like Talau , Sironen etc need to be told later in life that that’s where thier future is.
Especially as they start to fill out .
Not saying you weren’t agreeing by the way , I was just elaborating .

Which is why when you field guys like McQueen or Lawrence at the end , whilst better in defence , and understanding of the game , the benefit of having a Garner for example over those guys is clear to see for all I think. Now we hope his lateral defence can lift to the levels of his attack. Like I said , Sonny changed the game and the way we use backrowers . Most don’t even call them back rowers anymore . It’s edge forwards .

No mate. Can't stand those ch9 tools.

I can understand your thoughts that they are hopeless, Rusty.

To say they are better than those two idiots at the trial though is almost certifiable.

They failed miserably in the one thing they had to do throughout the game.

That was tell the viewers who the players were - most of the time they DID NOT!

Fults and Skando were made to look like Frank Hyde and David Morrow ......

Don't think they even replayed it from memory though it's on the
official club highlites for some reason

It's goes from a long camera shot to a closer right at the point of impact... Looked innocuous... Feel for the young bloke terrible luck

Maybe they just wanted Talau to have a run in the centres and the halves for a bit whereas AJ is only seen as a winger? And tbh didn't look like Talau or a number of them (Liddle) were going 100% out there.

Supporters can wish it all they like, but it's a trial game at the end of an intense off-season before the start of a gruelling regular season and pros just won't go all out for that.

I'd be very happy with Stefano and Laurie's performances as they were clearly stronger and better than their comp and that's what we expected of them.

With the competition at the club in his best position I don’t think TT can afford to be resting on his laurels
