**CORRECTION...**
Apologies... thought this was Fonua Pole but is actually Christian Ma'anaima, a 20-year-old prop from Newcastle. Supposed to be the real deal and was apparently close to playing NRL in 2021.

Unsure if he's signed to join the Top-30 or is on a train-and-trial deal etc.
![211104-training_41.jpg](/assets/uploads/files/1636035884536-211104-training_41.jpg)

Took this from the Knights player profile pages:

Born in New Zealand, Ma’anaima moved to Australia at the age of 15 to enter the Knights development system.

Ma'ainama impressed so much that he was signed to a three-year NRL contract, starting with a year in the development squad in 2021.

An intimidating presence with a strong offload, the Junior Kiwis rep has a bright future as one of the NRL's brightest young forwards.

With a full pre-season alongside the likes of Daniel Saifiti and David Klemmer now under his belt, Ma'ainama will be one to watch in 2021.

..You would think if he had a 3 year NRL contract with Newcastle, that he would have been offered at the very least a development contract here to get him to make the switch.

Do we know the exact story now.....???

Development ...or train and trial ...or something else ???

Club still hasn't announced his signing but they've now listed his name on the photo gallery on the website, so they'll surely say something soon.

Funnily enough Ma’ainama is still in the Knights team page..

Looks like Wests Tigers aren’t the only Club slow in updating stuff…

so after running through who has a spot in the Jersey Flegg and Ball sides, these are the players actually competing for contracts.

**Logen Dillon,** Ben Stevanovic, Brandon Webster-Mansfield, Rua Ngatikaru, Billy Stapleton, Junior Pauga, Liam Scolari, Iverson Fuatimau, Austin Dias, Tom Freebairn

how Dillon, Rua and Scolari haven't been wrapped up on development contracts is puzzling for mine. all three were standouts for our Flegg side last year and should've been re-signed long term.

I'm sure I've read numerous times on here that Dillon was a bit scrawny ... looks alright in the pics though.

I heard pound for pound he was easily the strongest in JF. pre-season with the first grade side will only see him improve further.

Iverson Fuatimau is a fine player, big with good pace and a step. Stevanovic has flown under the radar but it also a very good young player and local junior. I know the South West is spoken about as a growth area, but it is the inner west which keeps on producing good young players.

Both produce plenty of talent, Rua Ngatikaru, Lomi Saukuru to name a few. We have two great regions for junior development, it's about time we started using them

Isn't Saukuru a Bulldog junior and ex Westfields Sports High? I notice in the development announcement, the WTs announced O'Kane and Tumeth as local juniors.

Junior club was Hurstville United so I guess that makes him a dragons junior? Went to Westfields but has been playing for the magpies

He looks to be a very talented player. It is very interesting period with so many good young players at the club and a few more to arrive.

The picture I saw he looked a unit ...close to 100kg if not 100kg ....very solid base ....

For anyone that's unsure how a Train-and Trial Contract works ..

■ Clubs can have unlimited players
■ Players are paid $1000 a week outside the salary cap
■ They can last an unlimited amount of time but generally run up until the Christmas break and then are re-evaluated
■ Players cannot earn more than $60,000, which is what a development player earns
■ Players must be promoted into a top 30 or development spot before they can play first grade

His Dad was a coach at Hurstville hence why he played there. Was in the Bulldogsb system but moved to Wests after our pathways impressed the family
