I don't know how you can stop peaceful protests. I'm neither pro-Palestine nor pro-Israel as I don't know enough about the history of the conflict to have a strong view but, irrespective of the rights and wrongs on both sides, Hamas' actions of the past few days are totally without justification or humanity. I'd rather we didn't see these protests in Australia but we are an immigrant country and we have to allow people to protest peacefully. The Sydney protest of Sunday night, however, crossed the line and those guilty of preaching hate should have been arrested.

No I'm not. All I reacted against was your comment about sending them back to their country. This isn't going to happen and some of these people may be people that contribute to our society in constructive ways and are multi-generational Australians.
I have no idea if you are pro or against Palestine.

you are of course aware that Israel completely withdrew from Gaza in 2005? There isnt a single soldier, policeman or Israeli official in Gaza for 18 years and Israel has been providing water, electricity and gas free of charge to Gaza up until this weekend? you know all of that of course?
Whilst Hamas keep their headquarters under a Hospital and military installations in Mosques, innocent Palestinian civilians will continue to be slaughtered in the days ahead and everyone of them, Israeli and Palestinian will be blood on Hamas hands.
Israeli's "tough guy attitude" might have something to do with the fact that they are surrounded by Hamas to the south, Hezbollah to the north, Syria to the East, all funded by Iran and the stated objective of all of these state actors is to obliterate Israel from the map. Not only is it their stated objective, sporadically they act to prove they mean it like last weekend. Im not sure what people suggest Israel do?

I didn't say 'back to their country'. If this is what set you off- I'll explain.
If a person, of any background at all, chooses to celebrate the slaughter, massacre, desecration or any other atrocity of people (or animals, to be fair), I believe they are not fitting the cultural beliefs of THIS country. They need to be removed. That kind of mentality is detrimental to the Australian culture.
To elaborate- this isn't a stand against peaceful protests etc.
What we saw- with cars driving through the streets, fireworks going off, was a CELEBRATION. If someone, ANYONE, wants to celebrate the actions we have seen in the last week- Australia is not the place for those people.
I'd suggest that if someone wanted to celebrate that kind of behaviour, then the place that behaviour is taking place, is the place for them to be.

Earl (he has me on ignore), Hamas governs Gaza, outright. Israel has no involvement in Gaza and withdrew in 2005 and provided free electricity, gas and water since.

Israel's conduct towards Palestinians is reprehensible. If there is any group that should understand the barbarity of walling up people in a ghetto then it should be the Israeli's. BUT Hamas should burn in hell collectively for what they have done. Like most conflicts it is the 'leaders' who bring the world crashing down on millions of people on both sides who just want to go about things without drama.

I was talking about this topic this morning to very little engagement. Good to see people voicing their opinions on this.
We seem pretty much unanimous on here that what happened on the weekend was evil and even though the Israelis are not the good guys the West paints them as, the actions of Hamas was totally unjustified in its brutality and hatred.
They are a terrorist organisation. They cannot be reasoned with, they are a collection of brainwashed, radical murderers and that’s what they do for a living. They need to be eradicated like that vermin they are, however I fear for the enormous impact to civilians on both sides as this takes place.
The thing that shocked me the most was Mossad missed this happening and were taken by surprise. That doesn’t make sense.

I know the purpose of social media as awareness, but man - I will never un-see some of the things I have seen, without a warning even. As a father to a toddler, it's bloody hard to see.
Hamas isn't representative of Palestine. Their actions are just as horribles as the decades of brutality inflicted by Israel - not by a terrorist group, by a government. This is a big difference.

Just a terrible situation all around. I think Palestinians have a legitimate aspiration to independence but it's awful that these aspirations are being projected through terrorists like Hamas. Sadly it's the people on the ground, on both sides, who suffer.

In general terms it's difficult to see peace in the middle east unless both sides give up on their maximalist demands and agree to a two state solution.

and they have been proven to be 100% correct. Prior to this weekend it was not a blockade. Israel restricts anything that can be used as weapons but food, medicine etc is unrestricted. As an example, Israel used to allow pipes to be let through for construction until the pipes were returned to Israel as rockets. Israel provided free water, gas, electricity and allowed 15,000 palestinians into Israel each day for work.
Then the citizens of Gaza should have elected someone other than a designated terrorist group (US, Aus, UK, UN designated) whose stated mission is to push Israel into the sea, to govern them. Israel withdrew from Gaza as part of a peace deal to set up a democratically elected parliament in Gaza for complete self determination and the first step to an independent state. Israel withdrew in 2005 and in 2007 the first elections were held, overseen by former US President Jimmy Carter to ensure it was fair and free election. The citizens of Gaza elected a designated terrorist group with the stated aim of pushing Israel into the sea.
