2024 Dally M Awards

That’s not the problem.
It’s the whole setup of how points are awarded that doesn’t work.
Hughes was in the dominant team this year. That means he shares a lot of points with team mates whereas others in weaker teams didn’t.
It’s got nothing to do with favouritism or “old white men” ignoring certain players as was suggested on this forum.
"old white men" is certainly a take, but it is more older middle-aged has-beens who can't pick the best bloke on the field because they have certain players they like. Looking at you Andrew Johns. Hughes played in a team without munster and papenhuyzen for a portion of the year, and grant out for origin. Cleary hasn't won the dally m yet, because he's in a stacked team and he rarely plays when origin guys are out or there are injured players

Due to the scoring system, it becomes unfair for players in great teams. It’s a 3-2-1 scoring system which doesn’t work in games where there are half a dozen great performances. I think it has less to do with biases and more to do with lazy scoring…I.e. the year Brooks won halfback of the year, it was considered if we won, he played well. It wasn’t always true but he polled really well.
