2024 Dally M Awards

I would be the first to acknowledge the NRLW competition's valid contribution to the entire Rugby League season however, the time and exposure afforded to the NRLW at these awards compared to the NRL was totally disproportionate when you compare 27 rounds played Vs 9 and 17 teams Vs 10
As a result there was no time to acknowledge the respective NRL nominees for each position in the team of the year.
I know we are now living in times of equal opportunity and political correctness compared to the past but, these awards like many others have given way to "diplomatic gender-free inclusiveness".
Speaking of PC did we really need a rendition of the Haka at an awards ceremony?

thought the Haka was a show of strength,2 repele invaders, not appropriate at an awards night 4 me

Gould was right. Galvin deserved rookie of the year. His suspension was harsher than to many others penalised for hip drops later on. He just happened to be pinged at a time when the NRL was cracking down and make an example of him.

Was Hughes in a weak team?
What point are you making here?
Hughes won by a point. It shouldn't have been that close. The dally m is a farce. It is run by old boys judges who have favourites. There is always a bunch of wrongly awarded players. But it's not the biggest deal. I'd prefer the refereeing to be better than an individual awards night

Didn’t he lose 6 points due to a week suspension?

It probably wouldn't have been that close if he wasn't rested in Rd 26

The voting system.needs.a.complete overhaul... Go back to the old RLW way of judging EVERY player that weekend out of 10 and be done with it

That’s not the problem.
It’s the whole setup of how points are awarded that doesn’t work.
Hughes was in the dominant team this year. That means he shares a lot of points with team mates whereas others in weaker teams didn’t.
It’s got nothing to do with favouritism or “old white men” ignoring certain players as was suggested on this forum.

I think the issue with that would be, if a player misses a game through Origin, injury, suspension etc, they'll be too far behind.

Potentially get an average of all points and have a min cut off that they must have played 70% of games or more this year.

I think since the 90s, only 1 player out of the spine has won it in Taumalolo. Guys like Yeo, AFB, JFH and even S Crichton should be in the running. The 3,2,1 forces us to compare a prop to a halfback.

Yep the 3-2-1 system doesn't take into account a player's actual effort and involvement. It creates a lot of inconsistencies
