2025 Assistant Coach Options

Couple of stories online saying Hodgo may be back as Benjis assistant

I really hope not.... As much as I love the bloke and think he's one of the clubs best.... His coaching record is quite poor
Totally agree… if Benji picks Hodgo, then it all about jobs for the boys who he knows and won’t threaten his role, rather than picking the best available

I think there would be many experienced assistant coaches who would not want to work under Benji. Assistant coaches still want to learn from the head coach and I don’t believe there is much, if anything, that Benji could teach them. Further, it would be odd and unsettling when the assistant coach is the far superior coach.

This happened at my old workplace a few years ago. A new younger inexperienced boss was put in place. 90% of the staff left within 2 years. It’s embarrassing taking orders from someone you are clearly more competent than.
Don't agree. An experienced assistant needs to check the ego at the door, take a large pay packet (no idea but assuming), support the growth of a club with a lot of potential and bring their experience to a group , has a direct path to take over from Benji in 2026 /2027 if they are the right person. Realistically Benji is not here for long term and he's already said that.

As much as we all want a hard- nosed old school, disciplinarian, defence minded coach- it needs to be Benji who decides almost 100% who he wants.

I am starting to gravitate towards a recently retired player who has pushed his own boundaries day in, day out.

We need to manufacture leadership. I wouldn't mind like a 40 year old fierce trainer who leads the time trials, trains with the team to show them how it's done.

We all want a tactical advantage, but tactics don't matter much in current football and that's why Sheens has been unsuccessful for so long. The fittest team wins games more often than not.
As long as Benji is accountable. If it fails he falls on his sword and takes his buddies with him.

is it confirmed we are sticking with morris?
Not to my knowledge.... Hopefully some things going on about it tho... Theyve had three weeks ... I know there's a few weeks til pre-sesson training starts hopefully they pull their finger out and get benji some decent quality capable assistants because he's going no where (in more ways than one)

we know Benji probably can't coach but the players are backing him and signing up...............so let's hope they pull out all stops to get winning so as to keep him in the job.
That’s not a good thing.
If we want to dig ourselves out of the mire we are in, we need more than a coach who likes to heehaw with the boys at training.

I only quoted the pertainant stuff. Your opinion after that doesn’t mean much to me….why should we keep him in the job if he isn’t performing?

But that's the point of my post.

There doesn't seem to be player murmurings re benji.....

So if they don't or are unable to start winning for him within weeks the players will be introduced to a new coach who they mightn't like as much in all probability.

I would be far more confident going into next season without him.

I Agree,

Just saying normally coaches get punted when they fail to attract high calibre signings, and two when they lose the dressing shed.

Meaning either the players start winning and when they don't they shift the blame to save themselves.

SMH: The Tigers are also expected to make a call on a replacement assistant coach for Robbie Farah next week, with fellow premiership-winning teammate Brett Hodgson expected set to get the nod.

All us experts putting the knife in Hodgo before he starts here. Like we know what he brings to the table.

We have all said Benji should be surrounded by experience. Morris has it, obviously. Hodgo has experience in many facets as well.

Coaching is just as much about culture, fit & personality as it is ability.

What I would want is a coaching staff that makes Benji feel comfortable. The moment you bring in an assistant that is borderline 1st grade coach material, your head coach starts looking over his shoulder & not ahead.

I'd be adding more than Hodgo. Another coach with similar experience. Spread the workload. Give Benji as much experience to lean on without telling him how to do it.

I think the most important backroom staff are the strength & conditioning guys for this club. We play small.

Last sacked coach who plenty were adamant - would drift off into oblivion due to his limitations after failing here - managed to secure coaching NZ, NSW to victory, and now front runner for coveted Broncos job.
Does my head in how we are a sack happy club but still can't retain/back who we should and then sit back and watch those same people we right off achieve stuff they can't do here.

Sigh

I guess we give the benefit of The doubt.

J*mo looks safe it seems... Unbelievable

I guess they can't go worse
If PNG joins WT could come 19th ... theoretically. You'd like to think that, by then, the young talent will come on.

People say Storm and Penrith have set the standard for pre-season prep. Tigers will have three ex-Panthers next year so surely they could tell Benji how brutal the pre-season needs to be for top teams.
