2025 Assistant Coach Options

I honestly think vlandys ball killed us , and we were never trained to play that type of footy, nor did we have the player builds for it .
It’s taken us this long to catch up . We clearly missed the jump at the start and it’s taken us 3-4 years to close the gap .

The 6 again rule that Vlandys fostered allowed certain teams to dominate possesion due to referees giving extra tackles whenever they felt like it to teams they expect to win. This increased the speed of the game and actually made the gap between the top sides and everyone else even larger, you can also add the fact that under his governance he reduced the onfield referees from 2 to 1.Both were bad decisions and that still continues which imho are the main reasons why we see more and larger blowouts during the season

The thing I can't get my head around is a) what exactly does an assistant coach do and b) where (using John Morris as an example) he has gone wrong in his tenure at the WT (assuming he hasn't left of his own free will). Far too often I see assistant coaches as always being ready to step up, with others (Jason Taylor or Trent Barret come to mind) almost making the role perennially theirs. And let's face, if an assistant coach is good enough, he'll always have the ambition to coach first grade.
