2026 refereeing thread

Hey can someone get this story out from behind Murdoch's paywall?

BTW

I'm not a cheap arse, I just stopped buying Murdoch rags to read at smoko and cancelled my Foxtel years ago, out of principle.

I really don't want to give the Murdoch propaganda network a cent of my money if I can avoid doing so.
Hey mate,

Good on you for taking a stand. The Murdoch empire is evil and we should avoid propping it up whenever possible. Same goes for Meta.

Hope we can turn that penalty count around this week from what we copped against the worriers.

Moses will be throwing his arms up in the air at every opportunity, the whining little sook.

A bit of silver lining in that normally we are sitting here wondering what if a call went our way would we have won, but it made no difference.

The whole thing is a farce - the officiating.

The ref's now as I said earlier - can give penalties away on a whim and ubiquitiously ( before they were called penalties) to keep the game going in good stead for the team that is favoured.
The ref's therefore (NRL) control the outcome more than the players in the Vlandys epoch.

Also the injuries are much worse than ever.
And I dare say that the lower teams on the ladder have more injuries than the teams on top as a result of the defending that they have to do at the whim of the ref's 6 agains.

There is no bias here when I say last night's officiating was an abomination and close to as one-sided a game as I have seen. And before someone says, 'you make your own luck' or 'once we are better the refs will give us a go', that's complete and utter rubbish. It shouldn't make any difference, whatsoever, whether one team is playing crap or another is higher on the ladder, both teams deserve a fair go. And I'll add, the fans deserve a fair go. We are not stupid and we can see the farcical calls with our own eyes. This is not sour grapes. I feel annoyed when I see any side blatantly ripped off. I know the refs have a really difficult job but some of the six agains, missed forward passes, knock-on calls, missed/ permitted foul play and, worst of all, bizarre bunker interpretations are beyond belief. So why is it happening - incompetence or blatant corruption?

I haven't believed in the 'fairness' of referee calls since the Kyle Feldt milking incident in the game vs the cowboys where we got penalised out of the game in the dying seconds, giving the game to the cows. To my failing memory there were three calls all dubious and roundly disputed as wrong, yet all were backed by the video ref. That was not random.

Under Anusley's "guidance" the fiasco of supposedly equal standards for all teams and clubs continues.Never put a failed politician in charge of something where impartiality is a fundamental responsibility.

The video ref in that Cowboys game was the same one we had yesterday. After that game in 2022 strangely we did not have that particular ref again for over a year. Yesterday's inconclusive call on the strip was incomprehensible. The video evidence was clear and the Bunker even admitted no stripping action. BTW, has anyone heard of a short whistle since Round 19, 2022? The ref blew his whistle at full-time then the video ref called an escort to change the result.

You have to understand that the glare from the videoscreen can actually reflect off his bald head back at the screen causing strange mirage like movements on any jumper with orange on it to his vision.
In other words he imagines what he sees.
