2026 trial games (non WTs)

Waiting to see some extra off season pace improvement from Galvin. Not sure if he has bulked up much either with a full pre season.Has a bit of competition for his spot with O’Sullivan.
Newcastle mediocre

The one thing I really like about Galvin a mate took alot of kids to the Canterbury game the other week all the kids have mental disorders and Galvin spent quality time with each kid and took photos with them no B/S and I respect that

trials basically mean jack
Reckon they mean ,.. fans see there team out playin even if it's not the TIP TOP players, coaches see who's been doing the hard yards in the pre season training and putting it on show, young fellas looking to impress, refs blow the cobwebs out of there whistle and the bunker well the bunker needs more then a few trials but other then that they mean jack... oh and I think there is a little cash up for grabs as well.😜

Some thoughts:

- Bulldogs looked very sharp and clinical. Good line speed and accurate passing when putting on a shift. Ciraldo has them playing to a system, where it's about the strength of the team rather than the individuals. Basically, a lesser Penrith. I think winning or losing against them will come down to the style of football you play. Get into the grind, you're probably going to lose. Disrupt their system with early shifts and second phase play, you're a good chance of getting on top of them.

- Knights were better in both trials than I expected, despite losing both games. They had good attacking shape and have some genuine gamebreakers in Ponga, Brown and Sharpe - just might take a little while to click. Their problem is their team make up. I think they're light in the forward pack and it's going to hurt them. Not sure how they fit all three of the above players in the team either when they're all healthy. Sharpe is electric but he's not a 7 (do they move him to centre and demote Gagai?). Finally, I think Sandon Smith is a handy little player but I'm not sure he has what it takes yet to steer a team with an understrength forward pack around the park and keep them in games. I think they'll be better than last year but probably not in contention for the 8.

- Dragons were awful both games, aside from Kade Reid in the first game. They look big and useless. I really hope they stink it up this year.

- Bunnies looked like Uncle Wayne has got them playing an 'enjoy yourself and play what you see' style of footy. It was fun to watch and too good for a nearly full-strength Dragons outfit, which just reinforces my above point given the Bunnies kept the majority of their topline players on ice. I think they'll be strong this year

- Cowboys looked sensational against a very weak Panthers outfit, but it's hard to gauge anything from that except it was a complete mismatch. I think Mahoney will add some spark for them this year around the ruck. I rate him much higher than Robson.

Was he faster? Did he do much ?
Was never really in open space to assess speed. He didn't do anything exciting but didn't do anything wrong. Defended well positionally but dropped off tackles. Usual high work rate involving himself both sides of the ruck. Some nice touches more leading to one on one runs and quick play the balls rather than actual breaks. One shocking hospital ball early on that he should of held on to. Nothing to get worked up about either way.
