@davedave said:Smeghead: this development was never about the Leagues Club, other than to ride their supporters. You have your own opinion on whether the area needs this development, but let's not confuse the two issues of getting the Leagues Club back and the development it "may" reside in.
Well to clarify there is a contractual obligation in place which means that the Leagues club will exist with the new space. There is no confusing of the issue as the Leagues Club will not return to the site as a stand alone business. This will never happen due to lending restrictions, manageable debt thresholds etc.
Yes I do have my own views on sustainable growth for the city of Sydney and its immediate surrounds. I am not confusing any issue in that regard.
Interesting that people are happy for other smaller developments to exist which will by their very nature put a greater strain on resources and roads than a larger development with retail space and direct public transportation access.
As a overall plan building higher density residentail spaces along arterial roads with good transport links has massive advantages over the current urban sprawl we have.
But of course this will be reduced back to over simplified trifling arguments about the casting of shadows and thinking of the children etc whilst pruporting to stand up for small business in the area, businesses that are stifled by the current lack of community support. In terms orf retail the best part about Rozelle west of Victoria Rd is that you can park in side streets and walk across to the side of the road that is actually worth going to.
If more developments such as this had occured 15 years ago we would be much better off as a city, we would not be wasting billions of dollars chasing property developers with infrastructure trying to catch up but instead maintaing and improving existing infrastructure, lessening the taxing load on the power grid maintenance and saving everybody money
