Pooper just claimed on 360 that there was a heated meeting with Madge and the playing group today. If there is any truth to what he was claiming then a large majority of the players reported that it’s not working and that feel they are walking on egg shells for fear that if they don’t perform that he will drop them. What tripe. If that happened, any and all of them that put their hands up and said that should never be seen in our first grade team again. Fancy being held to a standard.
Kent then went on to claim that some of the players are only getting played to put them in the shop window to try and move them on.

If players are scared of being dropped they should play better. They’re not used to being expected to play good

Once again it’s showing our loser mentality at the club. You can tell the difference in attitude between Doueihi, Luciano, Blore compared to a lot of the guys that were here already.

If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen

Picks Benji and brooks

Yeah but he will put 7 on Brooks and 6 on Benji.

The man is a genius.

^^^^^^

Never any doubt was there?

I don't want anyone to pin their hopes on this because I have no solid mail and receive very little info usually, but I did hear through a former player that Madge had agreed to a further two year extension a couple of weeks ago. take it with a grain of salt, but hopefully the club has already made the decision to have him here long term and the rumour is true.

If any truth to it, just shows the mentality of this playing group. Weak as piss. Also, can read it as they (players) are trying to get rid of Maguire. Will be interesting to see who the board backs in this fight.

Nofa has confirmed it is all true. Players worried for their jobs.

Really soft...

At this point, we are soft. It is that simple.

Personally I blame the senior players for setting this culture the past few years. Too many sulking or quiet types in the senior group. Sulk on FOX or have a cry to the papers...never fire up and refuse to lose.

End result is we are soft.

I’m not surprised the players are worried about their jobs.

We have a poor roster that has not performed well and it is common knowledge that Madge has embarked on a clean out.

We currently have 35 players on contract – excluding Harry Grant and including Stefano and 5 development players.

Of the 35 contracted players, 10 players’ contracts expire this year, and 14 contracts expire next year.

Of that 10 that expire this year, McIntyre is the only one who looks like being extended. Eisenhuth is a possibility, but has been told to look after himself because we may not be able to offer him a deal.

Of the 14 players whose contracts expire next year, only a few of those would be confident of being retained – Aloiai and Nofo are the only certainties for me. I would think Mikaele and Liddle are likely, while if Blore and Madden show promise then I would expect them to be extended also.

In summary, of the current 35 contracted players, only 11 have contracts beyond next year. Of the other 24 that are either off contract this year or next year, there would only be around 7 players who would be confident of being here beyond next year. This means that around 50% of the current squad must see the writing on the wall.

They have every right to be worried about their jobs.

I am sure that this does not contribute to team harmony.

It is professional sport though mate...you either win, or get replaced. Many of our blokes have made millions, not won for a decade and never been replaced. It is not like a teacher or nurse battling to pay a mortgage.

Our club has almost been run like a social club..."hey, don't worry if you got hammered 44-4 mate, you'll be there next week!".

Benji had THE worst defensive stats in the NRL leading to tries when he was dropped earlier...rather than fix that, we just got the sook stories and back he came again. The team 'leaders' have been big sooks for a long while now in Tigertown if we are being realistic.

No one ever screams out behind the posts "we NEED a win...LIFT and FOLLOW ME!"...they just stand there staring into space.

But they all seem to like to have a sulk to the media when dropped or asked to leave.

To be honest...it is embarrassing as a lifelong fan.

Well said some of our blokes seem to be in a world of their own. What me worry?

I agree with all that you say Ellery.

I wasn't criticising Madge, or the clean out. We could be turning over 50% of the squad in just over 12 months, and I'm all for it.

I see player unhappiness as an inevitable consequence of the process Madge has to go through.

The media will dine out on all this. On the one hand they laugh that we haven't made the finals for so long, and when Madge makes some tough calls to renew the squad they bang on about the upheaval at Tiger town.

Because we own 9th place they should re-categorise the Minor Premiership to mean a finals series between the bottom 8. Our Grand Final could be the curtain raiser to the Major Premiership. Good for the fans and players.

The three big constants since we won in 2005 have been.
1 Robbie
2 Benji
3 Coaching turn over

1 and 2 are gone and 3 looks like it may have finally been addressed with Madge quite rightly to be extended.

We have a lot to look forward to in seasons 21,22 & 23

Bring it on

Tigers sound like they’ve worked out long term planning and turning the roster over is the better option than failing and removing coaches.
This should have been done with Cleary we would be out of the woods by now but we can’t complain it has to happen.

Some players won’t be the long term options but staying competitive whisky long term rebuilding is a hard act. I am not fussed who they sign for 2 years and under as we won’t be challenging until at least 2022-23.
