A template for the club

We were a so-called rich and powerful club as recently as 2009\. Despite not making the finals in years, we signed Ellis and Tuqiri in successive years, and then Blair in 2012 - starting that year as favourites. WT were a big deal.

It's pretty much been a shambles ever since, on and off the field.

Because we're dumb. It's our fault we're poor and will never be rich.
The smart clubs are the rich clubs, it's not like they just got lucky.

As well as some self inflicted wounds also it down to the Sydney Casino opening up in Tigers territory, it also wrecked some inner city clubs of other flavours.

Tigers club thought expansion would get customers back, that cost a mint and then everything became complicated, messy and out of Club control. Also Balmain area gentrified to a greater degree and much earlier than other areas so were no longer league followers with pokie habits.

Also, am relying on others comments here of course, we paid too much for too long for players so in a downward spiral the club went. Sad for a club team that had such dedicated supporters.

So the destiny of the Tigers club seems severely limited now and in the future. Can we also kick off a Perth club for more support? (does WA have the terrible pokies?).

The problem is everyone is thinking the same way. The pokies is only one direction and reallying on a leagues club is getting out dated.
What the club needs to get involved in is silent ownership or partnership. Become an investor of other ventures. Gyms, cafes, function houses. It doesn't have to be tigers cafe, just some cafe that makes an ongoing profit. The Tigers brand is also well supported but the logo and colours look too childish to be a mark in anything trendy. That's why I think silent partnership with other well profiting local and national businesses is one option.

Tigers had plenty of opportunities to be self sufficient.
The rozelle site is valued near 80m dollars. Triple it once developed. They threw it away through corrupt means. Nick DG and Benny killed our financial independence.
It's a sad shame looking at the site now. I just googled it and I'm ashamed.

Club legend turned into club Judas.

I am only butting in here whilst guessing. Earlier on it was stated that the site has gone up 3 times in value and now you are stating near $80M. Well about a third of say $75m isn't much more than the $23M of debt that I guess was sold with the $1 with the Club. So it came out about even if all those iffes are correct.

Where did that come from?
I've never heard that we were a rich and powerful club in the whole history of the club.
There's been a couple of years where we went well, but rich and powerful, we are not and haven't ever been.

The suggestion that I mentioned last year about trying to relocate to Perth( which would suit the NRL is one of the few ways to make this Club comparable with the better clubs , some would rather be able to rock up to LO amd watch us get rolled by 40 or 50,than watch us on TV from Perth with a chance of rolling other clubs.
One team towns is going to be the way to survive and be sucessfull in the future, but we have our head firmly in the sand, with you know what stuck up in the air. Unless the club get off their butts and finds a way to get the clubfinancially secure the above is how well stay

I can't find the article but I recall the Rozelle village negotiated the debts owed and paid cents in the dollar to creditors.
It's the way bankruptcy works.
They may have bought the debts but then they are free to negotiate a settlement to creditors which was done.

23 million x 3 = 70m give or take. the size of that block in that location could be worth more but nobody will touch due to the political mess surrounding it.
Once developed it's worth 3 fold again.
We still sold it for magic beans regardless of the market value.
It's a tragedy that will hurt the club indefinitely.

It is not the same club if you pick it up and dump it on the other side of the country. That's a pathetic, soulless move. How are we supposed to go and support our team at home games if they're played over in Perth? Ridiculous…

What happened to the leagues club was a tragedy. If they were able to develop the site alone or in partnership, there was a fortune to be made.

The current owner will on-sell with a new owner developing and making a fortune. That way the current owner can bypass any deals they made around giving the club floorspace or a share of the profits.

We had big crowds, we signed big players, we had recognisable and marketable players. Our jersey was the most valuable in the NRL circa 2011.
In NRL terms, we absolutely were a big deal.

Eeasier than having no club to watch at all. And if we think that that will never be a possibility,
Them keep going the way we have , the NRL is a business not a sport, they will only carry clubs while it suits them,
Keep believing what they say now about relocation if that suits.but do you really think that they could give a Donald Duck about us if it didn't suit them.
Keep our heads in the sand and one day the choice may be out of our hands.
All I'm saying is that the club should be exploring ALL possibilities , no matter where it is.

If you think that Sydney will have more than about 5 clubs down the track, just ask yourself, if this is a business as we've been told on numerous occasions, why do they need serial bottom dwellers
Taking up a spot.
One things for Sure !!!!!!
This will not be the shape of the competition by 2025\. And it's up to us to be looking at ways of keeping involved
Would you if you were running the NRL Nelson would you want us in it( truthfully)
