A try to remember for James Tedesco

It won’t ever make the highlight reels but the try James Tedesco scored at Campbelltown last week will always be in his mind.

The try occurred just before half-time in the NSW Cup trial match against Wentworthville. For those who saw it, it was just a try in a trial match but for Tedesco, it meant more than that. The smile on his face was priceless.

“To cross for that try was a very good feeling. It’s been a year since I last scored,’’ Tedesco said.

“After what I have been through, it is just good to be back out on the field. I couldn’t stop smiling.”

A try and two trials later and Tedesco is feeling confident about the left knee that ended his season in his NRL debut at Leichhardt Oval in round one last year.

Tedesco takes another step forward when he lines up for Wests Tigers in the NSW Cup trial against Newtown at Allianz Stadium tomorrow. Like last week, Tedesco will play a long stint before being rested for a run in the Foundation Cup against the Sydney Roosters a few hours later.

“I’m just looking to play more minutes. I’m feeling pretty confident at the moment,’’ Tedesco said.

“The knee is coming along well. During the game, I don’t even think about it. It is feeling good, feeling solid.

“To get through these trials and to get through round one would certainly boost my confidence.”

Tedesco admits he has plenty of ground to make up on Tim Moltzen, who will start at full-back in the Foundation Cup.

“I’m not really pushing for NRL selection in round one. I’m looking at getting a few good games under my belt for Wests Tigers in the NSW Cup,’’ Tedesco said.

“If I happen to play some good footy and get the call up to play NRL a few rounds into the season, then that would be great.”

Teddy will end up as the club leading try scorer when he retires from our club

Big call I know , but he is going to be around for many seasons .

I think , with even more improvement still in him , Koroibete might end up to be the try scoring freak people talk about for a long , long , time .
All he needs do is stay healthy!

Watched him score 5 in a SG Ball game 2 years ago against the Central Coast side. He was "Slater" like popping up everywhere.

TEDDY is the REAL DEAL!!! THE TRUTH!!! Moltz will be playing at 1pm this year. Phantom, I was that game you mentioned Vs Coast. Barring injury, The Kid will go all the way!!!

Camden's soon to be favourite son

Champion in the making + Home grown junior = Doesn't get much better

Agree. He's got speed to burn and knows his way to the tryline. Not many players would have scored the try he landed last week of Benji's downtown kick, that was pure speed. I have no doubt Tedesco will score some pearlers of his own. He's excellent at following through kicks on the line.

what did you think of his speed at the game willow? Only caught the highlight reel and az missed koro's try :frowning: Hoping he's only gotten faster! but that's really hard to do in the nrl, most players only get slower because its an 80min game not a 40m dash.

Marika has speed to burn that try was brilliant to watch. Teddy is also brilliant to watch the try he scored in NRL was sheer determination to get their first.

I reckon Moltzy is gonna kick arse this year.

I reckon Moltzy will be the same as he as always been…anything but brilliant...the question is how long will Potter put up with him.

This. He's been ordinary for the last 2 seasons, i don't see any reason why this one will be any different. We shall see

That was a real shame because Koro's try was the highlight of the night. Firstly it was a set play from the Tigers scrum, on their 30 metre line. Jake Mullaney was up in the line defending so there was no fullback at home. Marshall's kick was pinpoint though, as soon as he got the ball he whacked it downfield with a gradual angle towards the sideline for Koro. Koro's acceleration is possibly the best in the comp IMO, he was off in a flash and while the Eels turned to chase, only Mullaney got close as he had slightly less ground to cover. The ball could have gone anywhere but it sat up perfectly and Koro caught it on the first bounce, this was probably on the Eels 30 metre line, so it was a 50 metre kick. Mullaney got to within maybe 5 metres of Koro, but he was no hope, Koro maintains his speed very well.

I saw John Grant in free flight a couple of times last year and he moves gracefully because of his height and stride length. Koro is just pure explosiveness. I would have liked to see those two in a foot race. Apparently Grant was the quickest at the club, but there wouldn't have been much in it.

Yeah, koro was a 100m sprinter, 10.5 i believe :O so he can maintain his speed better than someone like benji. although benji never really had any major speed.

also, any ideas why marika looked like he just got out of a hospital after 3 months and chucked on a tigers jersey?? had a bandage thing around his head and a beard like something from lord of the rings. only caught a glimpse in the footage though.

I agree , I think Moltzens ego will not allow him to get dropped …. I expect him to being playing out of his skin from round 1
