Aaron Woods - Signs with Bulldogs 2018 - Sharks 2018 [Official]..

I do feel abit sorry for Woods, hes a talented young player that in my opinion got the captaincy to early and under bad circumstances.

I hope he signs on as I think a coach like cleary will level things out for him.

I agree with this. He is really struggling with leading this club through such a tumultuous period and is getting little support from go and the board. He is finding club decisions hard to explain. I don't think he has been too bad on 360 and I think he explained the delay in him signing a contract quite well.

He is not being scrutinised heavily because his team is winning and he's not coming out in the media saying stupid things every second day. That simple.

If he came out and said he was refusing to re-sign until they decided whether or not to sign a new coach, the cheerleaders and the bartender at the Leagues and it caused the team to lose a ton of games, he'd be rightly ridiculed.

t

Widdop is in a different situation to Woods his team hasnt sacked their coach and their team is winning which he is using to his advantage. The point is he is looking after his own best interests.
Whatever motivates a player to test the market it allows clubs to strengthen their squads much to the frustration of the fans whose players are being pursued.
The personal attacks on Woods for doing exactly what most desirable players do when their contracts are up for renewal, is completely out of line considering up to this point of time he has been a great player for our club both on and off the field.
I dont know if he has handled it as well as he could but he has been hounded more than most which gives opportunity to stuff up. Unfortunately for him it has come at a time where he has a media role every week and
clearly is not quite as wise as some of the older players who are experienced with the media.

So…..I seem to have had a post removed. Notification stating I was quoted by CQTIGER Wed April 12 2:08pm. Nothing. I don't think there was anything bad in there.
Is there a left wing organisation lurking in the shadows attempting to stifle free speech? Anyone?

The use of @#%^$^ in your OP is disguised swearing..the subsequent quoted post was also removed..

It's not that hard…

:unamused: Thanks, when I grow I want to be as smart as you.

With all the wild speculation and downright character assassination of Woods on this forum, I think the "fans" ought to back off. He isn't an old head, used to dealing with the media. He is a young man trying to set up himself and his family's future and is entitled to consider his options carefully and the fact that he has a C next to his name, I'm sure would be a part of that but he need not make financial sacrifices because of that C. Under pressure from the media to disclose details of negotiations, naturally he would lie and so would most of us. Nobody on here knows what support he is getting from Marina Go and the board but I'd bet they'd be going out of their way to make him feel comfortable in staying. To do otherwise would be sheer madness if they want to retain him and it seems that they do.

Finally, there is a lot of misquoting on this forum about what he said on NRL 360 this week. I watched it and he made clear that his decision would come in the next two weeks. I don't believe the club should or would pull their offer under these circumstances but I don't think they should sit on their hands in the meantime. It's pretty clear that the club is in talks with plenty of players and that should continue so that both Woods and Tedesco know that their replacements may well be found while they deliberate.

I'll be as sorry as anyone here if Woods and/or Tedesco leave but worse things happen at sea.

Here is what Gallin had to say about Jack Bird leaving, these are quotes from an article in the smh.

"I'm disappointed he's gone and I would have loved for him to stay.
"I don't really care where he plays for the Broncos,"
"I think his best position for our club is right centre, which he has done a terrific job the last couple of years. It's not my issue when he goes to the Broncos."

He has had a year and abit to make up his mind…

I can understand the going home to the family/security part but gees the bloke ain't the average battler on the street who is making 70/100k a year with hard yakka.

people are tough on woods a bit too much on here recently.

his metres do reflect the hard work he puts in. he doesnt just make the tough runs but he manages to get his nose in front of the line at each time and makes 10+ metres on almost each run. then he gets down on his knees, never gets dominated and gets such a quick PTB.

in saying that, he isn't worth 900K and i doubt anyone will pay him that much.

he has his deficiences, i.e. marker defense, mobility, lack of leadership as of recently and lack of ball playing skills. im sure hasler and cleary know it and 900K is one of the stupidest numbers that've been thrown

I reckon Woods is one if not the best ball playing prop in the NRL. I also think that he doesn't typically take the hard runs and he rarely dents the line.

He does get consistent metres and has decent footwork at the line for a big guy that sometimes works for him. That along with his ball playing ability makes him a really good prop. When he plays well he can win games for us. At his worst he still grinds out 150 odd metres per game.

He is a really good player but he isn't a consistent gamebreaker.

Yep.
Quite a difference.
Ball players put supports into holes, offloaders keep the ball alive

I think Woods is going , reports Cleary speaking to Matalino Yesterday , I don't think we would have woods and him as we are not that lucky

We can definitely fit both. We've got a heap of forwards off contract

I think if anything signing another quality starting front rower would entice him to stay. He hasn't had one in a long while

Exactly Woods needs good support and Matalino is ideal.Packer and Graham are so not what we need

I sure hope so! Think it would defeat the purpose if we ended up with Matulino at the expense of Woods - we need them in the team together if they're serious about strengthening the pack.

Even the offloads haven't been too numerous lately .an okay player but not great by any means, and I certainly hope that he is not going to be the Blues captain this year, I'd have Cordner any day.
