Canterbury Bulldogs shouldn't force out James Graham to make room for Aaron Woods: Josh Reynolds

Canterbury five-eighth Josh Reynolds has backed the club's pursuit of Aaron Woods but insists it shouldn't be at the expense of Bulldogs skipper James Graham.
Less than a week out from the Bulldogs and Tigers going head-to-head at ANZ Stadium, Reynolds – whose own future beyond this season remains up in the air – has leapt to the defence of his captain after reports linking Graham to an early release from his final year at the Bulldogs.
While Reynolds, who has a close relationship with Woods from their time together at Origin level, hopes to see the Tigers front rower at Belmore next year – he can't understand why the club would contemplate parting ways with Graham.
"Why would you get rid of our club captain?" Reynolds told Fairfax Media.
"Let's be honest. If Woodsy does come, he's a great player so that will be great. But I would hate to see Graham leave this club. I can't see that happening.
"Jimmy is our leader, but who wouldn't want Woodsy in their team? It's a bit of a catch-22\. You definitely wouldn't say no to having him here but you definitely don't want to lose our leader as a result."
Graham has been one of Canterbury's best over the past fortnight, helping his side overcome a disastrous start to the season to notch three wins on the trot.
Although it has done little to silence talks over his immediate future, with Newcastle making inquiries about his services for 2018 considering he is on a heavily back-ended deal worth close to $1 million at the Bulldogs next year.
"I just have to focus on this year," Graham said
"There's a lot of external stuff and media focusing on next year, but in here we're all just focused on this season. We believe in what we can do this year. Whatever will happen will happen. Honest to God, this group of 30 to 35 players are all in for this year. That's all we can do."
Reynolds is another whose future has been the subject of great conjecture over the past few weeks, unsure whether he will be at the club when he comes off contract at the end of this year.
If the Bulldogs are to land the signatures of Tedesco and Woods, they are going to have to shed a number of players from the club's current roster.
Hooker Michael Lichaa and back Will Hopoate are expected to depart; however a match-winning performing against the Rabbitohs on Good Friday showed just why the Bulldogs can't afford to lose Reynolds.
"I'm not that type of guy to go here and there. I just want to get it done as soon as possible," Reynolds said.
"It's not about coming out in the papers and saying all this stuff about it. I've told my manager to keep me as far away as possible because when I'm thinking about that stuff I'm not thinking about where I should be and that's playing good footy for the Bulldogs.
"That's who is paying me at the moment and I don't want to let those boys down. If I'm thinking about that stuff, that's what I would be doing."

I'm just glad the media out there are starting to talk negative about them because they have treated the club like shot. All we have done for them and they carry on like spoilt brats.. E.g. Foran has come out and said he would make a decision within 2 weeks and thats shows class (So called Big 4 could learn something on this)..
In contradiction to what I and many others have said, i think Woods handled this one very well regarding Moses.

Problem with kids like Tedesco, they have clubs lined up out the door to talk to them, it's easy to start looking around, start to wonder "what if" about other offers.

Was disgraceful today. Spent most of the game hiding 2 or 3 passes wide of the ruck. Telling moment when Parramatta scored in the 2nd half he had his back to the team watching a replay. Is not captain material, is not a leader, is not worth 900k and on today's performance is hardly a first grader

He just isnt what a captain of an NRL team should be and he has shown
this over the last few weeks , on and off the field. I just dont get how
much he has changed over the last few weeks.,He's used every excuse in
the book as to why he hasnt made up his mind to sign or not to sign
with the club and its wearing thin on US (the supporters).

Yeah, I was watching the game from the grandstand but I am pretty sure that we packed the scrum in time, I don't know why the ref didn't blow time-off. I left the ground very angry that we couldn't get that scrum in and all the way back home all I remember from the game is a disgraxeful performance from the Refs & Moses. The time should've been blown off.
Anyone else starting to feel Woods doesn't actually have another solid offer from a club other than ours?
The Canterbury rumour may have some truth behind it but I highly doubt they've actually made him an offer. It doesn't make sense for them to do that, with the players they already have, and especially not for the money he is reported to be asking for, not even close to that amount.
When you think about it he isn't genuinely linked to any other club, and the one he is linked to seems highly unlikely. Anyway, hopefully we'll finally find out this week or next.

He is struggling with the captaincy. I'd like him to re-sign & give the © to ET. That will hopefully allow him to "just play footy" at his best. That & signing someone like Matulino to partner him up front will definitely help.

I'd like him to re-sign on a hell of a lot less than the figures being suggested. I do not think that any front-rower is worth that short of coin (10%+ of your salary cap).
Bennett has always had a view on what front rowers should be valued at, and Melbourne have always had a strong pack off the back off no-name front rowers.
