What I really want to know if Dogs sign Woods, where do they get the salary cap space from? It's all well and good to want to offload players, but if they are on contract, you have to find someone who wants them.

And if you sign the big-name player first, you then weaken your position because the interested clubs know you are desperate to offload.

It's like buying a house, if you go ahead and buy one before selling, you can risk it, but at some point you are very likely to own two houses because sales don't always go to plan/timeline. If you don't sell your first house in time, it becomes subject to capital gains tax, and you don't want to sell your first house in desperation.

The cap has gone up, they are letting go of Lichaa, Hopoate and have a third party lined up to keep Reynolds.
They are shopping Kasiano, Eastwood and Graham and will be able to offload them to someone.
Will also sign Foran. Teddy is not going to the Dogs.

I think they are making a big mistake with Woods he is way overpriced.

According to zerotackle Lichaa is $300K and Hoppa $150K, let's call that ballpark.

And that's my point - they can shop Kasiano, Beastwood and Graham all they like, but put yourself in the shoes of rival clubs. You can sign those dudes right now, get in first, but if you hold your nerve maybe Doggies sign someone like Woods and suddenly you get a discount on the shopped players, because Dogs now HAVE to offload them.

Hopoate is on a pittance there - probably the same as we're paying Rankin.
They'll need to shift a few on, which seems really dumb. Good luck to them I guess. They'd be much better off keeping their pack and adding Foran.

Can see us ending up with Reynolds.

I have faith in Ivan Cleary improving the team in the coming season/s. His future recruitment will hopefully steer the Club to finals footy.
If officially going to the Bulldogs I would hope Aaron Woods is immediately stripped of the captaincy. Some of his public comments re: the team/Club have been an insult to anyone connected with the Tigers. Actually, I would like him to pack his backs & leave tonight. He is a talented player but an uninspiring captain.

Hope Tedesco stays. If not our cap will be huge & it will be up to Ivan Cleary to build a team to be proud of.
No player is bigger than any club.
Long live the Wests Tigers.

Yep I cant defend that
The horse has bolted but you cant ignore the fact that the aftermath of two years of instability is a contributing factor in the decision these two have made to move oni. If we want to attract quality players we have to emulate the clubs that quality players want to play at and we havnt done that. That is a club issue.
First step Cleary but the damage alresdy done as far as Woods and Teddy go. Just hope it doesnt effect our ability to attract other players .

Woods should have stood down from the captaincy the moment he realised he was seriously considering going elsewhere.

In a perfect world you are right time will tell.
The Dogs, Broncos and Roosters play by their own rules.

Woods going isn't a big deal. Trust me. His asking price v his output isn't worth it. **Will build a better team without him.**

This is a bit of a fairytail at Tigerland… We are terrible at building a roster, plus with history as the only true gauge, quality players dont seem to want to come to the club.

What if all we can attract are worse? Does it become a big deal then losing your best prop?

Who's in the photo apart from Woods?

I can Photoshop anyone you want in it mate, any wishes ??

Staying factual see below

The Daily Telegraph obtained this photo of Woods meeting with Bulldogs players David Klemmer, Josh Jackson, Adam Elliott and Josh Reynolds along with former player and current club official, Steve Turner on Wednesday. The group, spotted at Zia Kitchen in Roselands, sat out the back to secure some anonymit

The article did also state that Woods, klemmer, jackson and reynolds often caught up, i dont have a problem with them catching up.

Timing of their catch up maybe poor and lead to further speculation but woods off field performance of late have left a lot to be desired of a club captain. Ive said before on the forum and off that giving the captaincy to woods was a mistake and i dont think he knew what he was getting him self into and just went along with it.

My point is weve only signed McQueen….we have a poor history really when it comes to recruiting so I cant get my hopes up just yet

My thoughts as well.
I think we will still have an uphill battle to attract the sort of players that we need.
I think that the garbage that's gone on with players and the club since the start of this year , has damaged this club so badly in the minds of a lot of people( including not only our players, but players outside the club as well) , that rebuilding is going to be very difficult, even though we now have a better class of Coach than we have had for a long time.

Woods and Moses won't be missed, but Tedesco leaving( if true ) will maybe cause us a lot of concern in the future. Players like him don't crop up very often,
It's going to take a while too see exactly how the. ridiculous handling of contracts by both the Club and the Players involved, has on Supporters of the club as well.
We may be headed for a long time at the bottom if we can't get outside players to come here.
If I had a son playing first grade at the moment, I'd do all that I could to convince him to go any where but WTs. And that's being honest.
This club is like Days of our lives. There's always another huge Drama just waiting to explode,
I'm almost over it completely.

What if Tigers end up with a roster of lesser-paid but more dogged / determined / passionate players? Could be a good outcome to let a high-profile, high-wage player go and sign a few decent footballers.

For example Ava would be worth, what, about 1/3 of the asking price of Woods right now if $900K is the ballpark? Ava isn't as good as Woods but what if you had 3 Ava's running around for the same price?

it is a loss. make no mistake about it he is a loss. put all the stat's aside and i love stats, he will be a loss. Teddy will be a bigger loss but woods is a loss.

i agree with many our ability to attract players has always been challenging and we are going to have to put our faith in Ivans ability to coach and recruit.

Aaron Woods offers the Dogs, "Absolutely nothing, that they don't already have".
Hasler's recruiting over the last 4 years has been appalling.
There seems to be the perception out there in the NRL that Hasler is some sort of "Master Coach".
WHAT!!!! look at the rosters he's had to work with. Plus the unlimited backing of a very wealthy leagues club.
I'll take Ivan any-day.

Wonder what reception he will have this weekend, hopefully doesn't have a C next to his name.

Def not worth the money being rumored so am glad to see he is going to be a dog.

Maybe he is recruiting them to come to Tigers, maybe they are pissed off at the Doggies.

Unlikely but so is all the other speculation in this forum.

Money really means nothing in that equation, as we already have 3 props performing 30% below Aaron's output… We cant put another 2 on the bench to help out.

We need to buy better and we have not shown any ability to do that over the past 7 years.

My point exactly.

Good thing is that now the buck stops with Cleary on signings. Off contract players from other clubs will want to get paid and tigers have the bank behind them to make a good 3-4 quality signings
