I see no reason to be overjoyed about this. our pack will be weaker and thats even if we get Mautalino and at least another prop.I feel many people on here will learn to regret his loss.If Tedesco also leaves it will be even worse

Well said Jadtiger - took the words right out of my mouth.

Rebuild, opportunity to start from scratch, if they want to go, good riddance, we'll have more money to buy a couple of replacements - sure we'll soon see how this goes.

Woods will be a mammoth loss, I am sure Matulino was being looked at in addition to hanging onto Woods - not as his replacement. 3/4 of one for one is putting yourself behind the eight ball. Packer is a plodder even in a good team, Would Graham come to us, do we even want him - poor state of affairs.

Teddy goes - there is no replacement (Dugan,, Johnson [as full back], Gordon) please tell me you really don't think this.

All these names being bandied - Cronk, Bird, Maloney, Johnson (as half back), Milford etc.
These are all dreams, pie in the sky and just plain wishful thinking - getting them to the Tigers (some already signed) is next to no chance. Widdop is a 5% chance at best. The next best available is a massive step down even from Moses.

There are plenty of players coming off contract for 2018 but they are a very poor lot imo already, let alone when we get to go into the market. Most good players have already been snapped up or signed for at least 3 years - that means we are looking at 2021\. Take out the real plodders, the grandfathers and dopes - the pool is shallow.

You can rebuild (we have tried to do that a few times) - you need players that are at least recognised as more than above average, want to come to the Tigers and are available.

All the money in the world won't help if you are a club that is a Leper.

I am usually a very optimistic person but it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

We are in for a long haul of heartache methinks unless Cleary has a magic wand - I don't think he has

Pretty hard to argue with any of that. I can't imagine us making any marquee signings for 2018 and in reality our team next year will be a lot weaker than this year. We're in big trouble.

Haha yeah. 5-6 mil to spend in the player market. Massive trouble.

Let me get this right
The Wests Tigers supposedly had offers on the table for the "big 4" for some months. From what I can gather these are close to what they were offered.
Tedesco - $1.1M pa
Woods - $800K pa ($650K + $150K marquee???)
Moses - $950K pa
Brooks - $750K pa

Cleary comes in and takes full control of contract negotiations.
Immediately reduces Brooks contract to $550K pa (Brooks signs)
Reduces Moses offer, then withdraws the offer to concentrate on signing Woods and Tedesco.

Moses takes his bat and ball and signs with Parramatta for $750K pa, well below the Tigers original offer. He also asks for an immediate release.

Tigers increase offers to Woods and Tedesco and more flexible on contract length (longer) for Tedesco?

Can anyone really argue that Cleary hasn't done the right thing here? Brooks seems really happy with Cleary so too Tedesco with what's been quoted.

I think what Cleary is doing is first rate. The only one worth their original asking price is Tedesco. Will he re-sign? Who knows now that Nick Politis has brought his and his mates chequebooks but we have offered Tedesco a very good deal.

Be careful Russ , the fun police who cover their ears and say la la la la la at 140 decibels the minute you say anything negative about this wonder club that has 3 finals appearances in 17 seasons will be after you as well

Fun being the voice of reason , hey 😱pen_mouth:

To replace Moses it looks like an uphill battle to get Widdop, Johnson, Cronk, Foran etc. In the unfortunate event we lose Tedesco there's noone that comes close to replace him. Dugan is probably the best fullback off contract and he would be a big step down.

I'm happy (and hope) to be proven wrong but i'm just struggling to see where our key signings are going to come from. There's no point having a huge amount of money to spend when a) there are limited options available and b) those limited options would rather play elsewhere.

Woods will look back in time and realise what an absolute Tool he's been in the way he's handled his contract negotiations and his very poor captancy …

Good riddance to the FLOG !

I dont think he will at all. He has no idea. Can you imagine James Graham, current frontrower and captain of his club, lying on his back staring into space on the field while his team mates are split into different sections working on specific things related to their game?? No way Graham would do that. He would always lead by example. Not Woods. Or maybe Woods was working on his game by lying on his back??? Thats how he ends up after every run.

I really hope we approach the Dogs to do an instant swap with Graham. Ava, Grant, Sue, Mataulino, Vete & Graham rotation wouldnt be bad at all. Widdop & Brooks could play very well off the back of that rotation

So let me get this straight. Cleary's first actions were to save us $400k per year just on reducing offers to Moses and Brooks? I have concerns about his coaching ability being average at NRL level, but his player and contract management appears first rate. He's proved to be an asset already.

If Woods is getting the money thats being bandied about at the dogs good luck to him, he's a $5-600 k player thats it. The dogs are paying massive overs if those figures are correct. No doubt they will have to offload a few to get him in. Id be more than happy to give Graham $750 k for a couple of seasons to compensate for the loss of Woods, he's a proper leader and would bring some passion and pride to our club.

Stop being a sad sack and just see how it plays out Russell. There are good players on the market. Our club is Sydney based. We have a coach that is well respected and has existing relationships with a number of players (don't underestimate the value of this). Just think of it as interesting times.

Good one Nelson - yes you tell me about all the good 5/8's, front and second rowers and centres also full backs on the market. I am talking good, not marquee or plodders.

I never said it wasn't interesting times or the credibility of Cleary.

I'm saying it is going to be a long haul - as if it hasn't been the last 4-5 years. Maybe ok for you but I am running out of time.

Cleary has already stated that he believes in honouring contracts so I can't see him trying to get Graham here early.

Ohh please stop glorifying one while bagging another. Totally juvenile. Woods has been great for this club and more than likely wouldnt consider leaving if the club had got its act together. Last year was a debacle and this year Simona Lovett Taylor. …
You really think James Graham would put up with the crap Woods has over the past five or so years he has been in grade.Graham is probably encouraging him to get out of here!
Woods has reached the highest level of the game while playing for an underperforming side. He has his reasons for moving on and they are probably pretty good ones.
We will move on without him.

Just got a message Last night from someone at the club Maulino be announced next week to coincide with Woods leaving. I know it's old news but the offer is closer to 450 a season. Woods I am told has taken 900 +100 TPA with the Dogs. It's good news for the Tigers. It's out of control Woods is not Glen Lazarus.

Well thats good news. Isnt he returning for the Warriors this weekend?

The NRL, media and contracts are out of control - one minute Matulino is a certainty the next is this :

http://m.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11841918

The NRL has to put in place transfer windows to stop this nonsense.

Got me - sportstalk360.com has got him signed . I cant remember a season like this in all the years I have followed footy. Its nuts and it is a dertriment to the game.
You will be checking which players are off contract the following year before you buy your season tickets!
Fans wont get caught again

The NRL are the ones responsible for creating this mess with player transfers. It's unfathomable that they didn't have the 2018 salary cap sorted until less than 12 months before it kicks off.

My friend a Canterbury fan is not happy they are signing a softprop on big money.
Regardless of whether he is staying or going sitting down for a latte with opponents you are playing this weekend is disgraceful.
If he leaves it will demonstrate that Klemmer has more integrity and is the mentally stronger of the two

Woods said Wests Tigers fans are the best..

A couple of years ago Tedesco said he wanted to stay with his mates at Wests Tigers.

then the club sacked his biggest mate…..
not just sacked him... dragged him through a pile of donkey do and tried to justify it by saying "we have to support the coach".... who they then sacked 3weeks in

bloody awesome mate !
