What this whole saga does is drive home what "reputation" and "legacy" should mean to a footballer.

Modern footballers don't seem to care as much, but in 10-15 years from now, when their careers are over and the fans aren't cheering any more, I wonder how they feel. The constant club and code hopping players might have admirers, but do they have long-term fans?

If you saw Ben Te'o or Aaron Woods in the street, would you run up to shake their hands? Compared to a Tommy Raudonikis or Wayne Pearce?

Even Benny Elias, for all the stupid things that have come out of his mouth recently, people still have some time/forgiveness for him because he was such an honest footballer and clubman.

Could not agree more. Most players that people reminisce about are club legends. How many of the immortals went through multiple clubs, particularly when they weren't forced out

Beetson had 3 clubs and was a legend at all of them and an immortal.A nicer more genuine bloke you could never meet.

Just watching the cowgirls run all over the bulldogs forwards…great choice woodsie, you reckon you've been carrying our pack...enjoy 2018

Every forward in the Bulldogs pack has looked very ordinary in the first half. Their backs have performed only slightly better. Their fans aren't going to be happy at all if they keep this up.

I doubt team harmony is at an all time high given half the pack is probably feeling unwanted, plus the backs they've been shopping…

Can't wait to see the back of Woods. To have bought packer and Matulino with Woods money is infinitely better than resigning woods. Stoked

Sharon will fit right in with the dogs fat pack … Head band and all

Unfortunately they secured .the best organising 5/8 in the competition - maybe Ivan should have thrown everything at Foran and we would then have a halves combination we could build a side aroumd.

Tension brewing at Canterbury Bulldogs after Raelene Castle email upsets Ray Dib

An email from Raelene Castle to her fellow club CEOs is threatening to expose the simmering tension at Belmore between the Bulldogs boss and her chairman, Ray Dib.

Castle, who is one of four CEOs on the salary cap advisory committee, sent an email to all club bosses on Thursday morning, asking them to sign a letter of complaint against the Rugby League Players' Association for breaching negotiation protocols by meeting with a select group of chairmen on Monday.

However, Fairfax Media understands the email has not gone down well in some quarters, notably with Castle's own chairman, Dib, who helped organise the meeting with the RLPA on Monday.

The letter, written by the NRL's salary cap negotiator Dean Kino to the RLPA and sent as an attachment by Castle, reads: "We are equally disappointed by your consequent conduct on the 9th of May, 2017, in holding a meeting with certain NRL club chairpersons for the express purpose once again of providing and negotiating your position with respect to the 2018 to 2022 CBA."

Dib wasn't aware the email was being sent out and, according to rival club bosses, wasn't impressed when learning of his CEO's email on Thursday morning.

While some described it as the beginning of a feud between the pair, it is understood Castle told people she wasn't having a shot at her boss, rather taking aim at the RLPA for breaching the agreed protocols in relation to privacy and confidentiality.

The email was expected to be the topic of great conjecture on Thursday night when club powerbrokers gathered at ANZ Stadium before the round 10 clash against the Cowboys for a monthly board meeting.

There has long been a suggestion Castle and Dib haven't seen eye to eye on certain issues, including the recent protracted contract negotiations surrounding coach Des Hasler.

It has also recently been reported that Castle was unaware of private discussions between Dib and Kieran Foran's representatives to lure the five-eighth from the Warriors to Canterbury next season.

But Castle's perceived indiscretion over the email, however inadvertent, threatens to bring the disagreements to the fore and a backroom brawl seems inevitable at Belmore.

There can be little doubt that the protracted salary cap dispute between the NRL and the RLPA has contributed to the angst in clubland, with clubs recruiting players without knowing what their spending limitations will be next year.

At Belmore, the signings of Foran and Aaron Woods have already put enormous pressure on the club's roster for 2018, while the lucrative four-year deal for James Tedesco at the Roosters has also left the tri-colours lobbying for an increased cap beyond $9 million.

That is why Roosters boss Nick Politis and Dib are understood to have called the meeting with the RLPA last week, joined by Scott Penn (Manly), Dave O'Neill (Penrith), Nick Pappas (Rabbitohs) and Allan Hawke (Raiders).

Castle is on the NRL salary cap advisory committee alongside Don Furner (Canberra CEO), Jim Doyle (Warriors CEO) and Paul White (Brisbane CEO).

Interestingly, Furner signed the letter of complaint to the RLPA despite his chairman attending the meeting with the RLPA on Monday.

Also in the letter was a reference to a breach of protocol when the RLPA sent out information about the proposed salary cap position to coaches and media on Friday, despite an agreement to keep matters confidential.

Enjoy the stability Woodsie lol…..

Most of the stuff in the media about us either rumour or opinion. This "club stability" that Woods is looking for is unreasonable because the board can't control the media. Woodsy is going to find this out first hand when the Bulldogs go through a rough patch.

Gee they looked ordinary tonight. If they are putting their faith in "4 teams in 4 years" foran and sharon woods then good luck. They wont make the 8 this year and they wont go much better next year either. Imagine we make semis and they dont next year, poor sharon might have a stroke lol.

What the hell are the Roosters and Dogs doing lobbying the NRL for increasing the cap after over-spending.

The NRL better stand tough, that's a joke if they just up the cap because some powerbrokers bought some expensive new toys. To hell with those clubs.

Have a read of the article in this mornings telecrap…"A Love For The Tigers"....biggest load of dribble...the guy is an absolute hypocrite

It's all about self interest, all the club who have got themselves into a hole by plundering talent from other clubs now want to apply pressure through the players association to get the cap increased. It will be a very sad day if the NRL cave into their demands

Its also again shows who the real power brokers are, not excluding news ltd.
The dogs roorters and broncos are in a different league compared to the rest of the NRL
There is no level playing field and the battling clubs merely make up the numbers for a 16 team comp
The NRL cant even have a fair home and away draw for all teams. Always in the too hard basket
