TROUBLE IN TIGER TOWN

Adam Doueihi is expected to be sidelined for the opening three months of next season which puts to bed any doubt regarding Luke Brooks’ future at Wests Tigers.

Doueihi met with a specialist in Sydney on Thursday morning. While he was awaiting confirmation, there are fears he will have to undergo a second knee reconstruction on the same knee he ruptured as a Rabbitoh in 2018.

Given it is his second operation, it is expected he will be sidelined for nine months – ruling him out of the opening 12 rules of next season. Parramatta’s Maika Sivo suffered a similar fate last weekend.

It is a cruel blow to a Tigers side which cannot afford to lose its best player for a prolonged period with the 23-year-old already touted as the club’s long-term skipper.

What it does do is it put to bed the whispers surrounding Brooks’ time at the club. While the Tigers have publicly and privately backed their No. 7 it has not stopped other clubs – including Canberra – from being linked to Brooks. The Tigers have always maintained Brooks is going nowhere.

It is also puts new recruit Jackson Hastings under the spotlight with Brooks and Hastings now the likely round one halves partnership for the Tigers next year.

Moses Mbye is St George Illawarra bound while Billy Walters will join Brisbane. Jock Madden has an opportunity in the final two games of this season to push his case to start in round one next year.

Yeah, i think he really needed that offseason training at 6 to make a real go of it next year.

9 months will be the minimum I’ve done the same injury twice. He will be a shadow of player he was next year and likely play centre if he returns. 2023 really until he fires again is the most realistic outcome. You never know with younger players but the only positive if there is one positive he will have ample time to get the upper body more powerful upon his return. As a 5/8 it would do him the world of good as he’s a tall lad.

I'm starting to think having a dominant alpha male type player like Hastings could help tilt the scales. IMO he only needs to show he's team driven or goal oriented to be deemed a succesful recruit for the team.
It's nothing against Ash but coming to a club like ours just might not be the best option for him (to get back to his best footy).

You might be right, he’s definitely a competitor, I just don’t know how he’ll adjust to NRL and I think Taylor might be sensible as a contingency. Putting all our eggs in Hastings/Brook is pretty risky IMO. AD is a huge loss

It does resolve the halves puzzle, at least for the start of the year

Start of next year has to be:
7 Hastings
6 Brooks
14 Simpkins

When AD returns
- if Hastings/Brooks are killing it, bring AD into centre or lock
- if not, bring AD in at 6 with Hastings at 7 and Brooks to 14
