AD was on a three year deal with Souths for 2019, 2020 & 2021 which he signed in April 2018 just after his first grade debut a few weeks earlier
Does anyone know what the $ were for each year, or an educated guess?
Also any idea on what we were offering and what the ask from Souths was?
I feel I've seen some of this but sometimes it isn't easy to find again, so appreciate any help anyone can provide

Apparently 2020 $500k 2021 $600k.

Seems a lot for a guy who had just debuted, maybe it won't even matter, but I'm sensing this ride still has a few more twists and turns

Backended deals are not completely banned, a club is still allowed to have a contract that is increasing in line with a developing player.
So Doueihi could be on contract that increases in value.

The Roosters haven't beaten us or anyone. We threw him an offer and personally think we've all moved on knowing it wasn't in anyones best interest. They've only beaten us if we throw a counter offer and he still declines us. The Roosters are probably willing to take a gamble on him knowing they still have plenty of depth in multiple positions. Something we don't have the luxury of.

I would have thought signing an additional player would add depth.?

I agree, I wouldn't go anywhere near him at $500k, let alone the $600k he is looking at for next year!

Not if he turns out to be a dud. It's riskier for us at his asking price than it is for the Roosters. Anyway, with all the ups, downs and rumours he might still sign with us

If we have baulked at his asking price then we aren't even in the race. And you can't lose a race you aren't in. Might as well say we didn't sign Taumololo so we've lost the race for him too.
