The upside is they know they aren’t all that and better keep working or they’ll fall by the wayside.
I’m tipping Makasini will have a big 2027 after ripping in this off-season. Time will tell.

Fingers crossed that he does. But I can't help looking back at the Penrith Trial and Cleary smashed him with a shoulder charge. He was able to recover and ran over Edwards (from the Wing) but I feel other teams saw his vulnerability from that juggled ball as a target. The other aspect of Makas game that I worry about is the fact that as a centre he does not break tackles or set his winger up at all. The only time in the season so far that he made a decent break was when he intercepted/swooped on a loose ball and was run down by Ponga! If he scores that try we win the game.

Galvin benefited from being in the NRL to showcase his skills for other clubs. It was Marshall who gave him the freedom to showcase his skills. I am sure Da Silva did not mind playing in the NRL as it also allowed him also to showcase his skills. The club chose not to match the Eels' offer for Da Silva and to develop Haywood instead. That is what is happening now Tucker so continually hitting the club over the head for doing the right thing is wrong. No doubt Da Silva's manager appreciated the club's decision to release him to the Eels.
Probably because the kids' parents and managers demand it. Otherwise, they threaten to go elsewhere. Contracts don't mean anything anymore. No does their word. Sign of the times.
I think it is simply squad depth. In most cases I think even raw these kids are the best option due to limited depth. Marshall is trying to pick the best possible side and unfortunately that means picking kids who aren't yet up to it ahead of blokes that never will be up to it.
I still believe we're doing them no favours by playing them before they are ready. If the option is lose first grade with reserve grade standard players but develop the kids properly or lose games slightly less with the kids getting physically and mentally belted then I'd rather hold the kids back.
Physically he’s not there yet. These are the years where u can hit the gym or be distracted by shiny things.
He is a bit tender in a lot of areas at this stage of his career. He will toughen up both mentally and physically over the next few years. Hopefully at the Tigers.

Takes time to get used to the speed of NRL. He is coming from schoolboy rugby and SG Ball. The jump is huge, and Benji throwing him in like he has has been diabolical coaching.
I saw him in the Matts grand final and he did a beautiful slick catch and pass to put his winger away. I think that part of his game will come once he adjusts to the NRL speed.

That is the only thing that concerns me about Makasini this year as he keeps trying his heart and has had some harsh mistakes punished but that intercept when Ponga ran him down I think he slowed down because he just didn’t think he would make the line. He had no need to try and palm Ponga off and it slowed him down , he kind of gave up due to lack of belief .. Jees I hope he gets over that and the ducking his head into tackles at his size, he will get hurt from doing that ,, but this pre season will be a god send for him I hope

The poor kids confidence must have had its clock cleaned. That defensive effort on Iongi was one of the worst of the year.

Some will say it’s out of necessity but I think that’s a bit lazy. If you set up your top 30 properly, you shouldn’t have to.
I honestly think we…the Royal we…totally over rate our juniors coming through. Most end up on huge salaries due to showing good promise in a couple of games - take Maka. Over rated to the moon, he stars in a trial game and we throw the keys to him. He then plays like dogshit all year and now we question this decision. Truth is he never received any proper preparation for NRL.
Just because you are physically ready doesn’t mean you are mentally or skillwise ready. We fail that lesson over and over and over again.
Honestly…if we employed some sort of draconian rule like “no NRL until you turn 23”, we’d be better off.

Galvin showed last night how stunted his development has been.
At one stage he stood up and took the game by the scruff of the neck and lead his side to a good lead, then backed off and lost the game. He doesn’t know how to close out a game still.
Likewise TDS plays well and poorly in the same game regularly.
We don’t do the right thing. We do the easy thing. The right thing would be preparing these boys for the grind and pressure of the NRL. An incremental climb through the grades does more for their development then appeasing their entitled views that they can handle it.

Gould has been reported in the media as saying Galvin is "Not a long-term 7", yet he plays in that position. How you can apportion that loss to WTs has me puzzled. Marshall played him at 6 and allowed him to showcase his talent enough that he reportedly had multiple clubs interested in him. Seems his development was fine then.
Learning to be consistent is part of the development of a NRL player. Young players make mistakes and this again is part of development. Both the Bulldogs and Eels signed both players to reportedly very good contracts aware this was part of their development.

Both slotted into their FG sides - clearly those coaches thought they were ready.

His development was fine with us?
He ran our attack and we got the spoon.
He went from Parra outcast to NRL in the space of a few years with us. He has now played more NRL games for the Dogs than he did for us. I don’t know how you could possibly claim our development hurt him in any way, although I do agree with some of your other points.

His extremely rapid ascent with us was not warranted in any sense whatsoever. He didn’t earn anything with us and his obvious inexperience manifested in terrible attack resulting in a spoon.
Had our coaching staff had their premature ejaculation under control, he could have served a reasonable apprenticeship, hitting first grade this year far more equipped to handle his role.
We ruined him and Canterbury are still trying to unravel the mess.

Apart from his manager and another entitled client, the last few pages barely relate to Adam, which to me shows that the vast majority are ready to move on from him, particularly so as a half.
One cannot help but wonder how much of a measurably better position WT would be in right now, had Benji not made the decision to think that Doueihi could defy history and be our halfback through the off-season. Reading the team list against Parramatta and seeing him at 7 again after the huge kerfuffle had me feeling the most disillusioned in memory, even upon the third 🥄.
