He’s a hell of a footballer
I reckon giving Brooks the captaincy tonight did his head in..same as it did mine..and Brooks made us both right
If Doueihi is so mentally fragile that naming Brooks captain puts him off his game, he is not half the player that his fans think he is.
I mentioned it in the other thread but Madges coaching is very perplexing...
AD is captain material... a lot of people have mentioned this on the forum. He's a future captain for sure, a lot of leadership qualities. Our captain Tamou goes down and instead of doing the logical thing and naming AD.... he goes Brooks... a guy who's been playing well but appears to not have a voice on the field or be a captain.
One occasion when Stefano knocked it on, I saw Moses Mbye talking to the ref, going through the motions in regards to the captains challenge... where was Brooks?
This is another massive mistake and mishap by Madge.
Just like after losses we want accountability and instead of dropping players that deserve to be dropped..... such as... Talau , Mbye, Nofo, Jimmy Jet / Tamou, etc etc etc... he drops some one like Seyfarth or Cini.... undeserving. This is extremely poor form in my opinion and sets an extremely bad example.
There is no egg shells. Either the players have scared Madge into what may happen if he does his job or he likes them too much to upset them. Either way, it all is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
AD did have an off game tonight... it didn't register with me at first this may be because he wasn't made captain... that does make sense... I hope he is tougher than that.
There are a bunch of separate issues here.
AD may be captain material one day, but that does not mean he is now and it does not mean Brooks is not. Everything i have heard is that Brooks is a genuine leader at training. I'm not sure where the no voice on field comes from either. The few games i've been to he is among the most vocal of our players. He doesnt dish out sprays ala Gutherson the other night but he is constantly communicating to those around him. If anyone of the two is quiet it is Douehi as shown by his inability to communicate in defence. Anyways, i dont see how anyone who is selfish enough to question why someone else is captain and not them is captain material (not that i think Douehi has done this).
As for where was Brooks on that play I couldn't tell you, all i know is off screen. Who knows if Brooks was running in from 25m away, or getting instructions from a trainer or teammate about what to do or just MIA. It could be any explanation so we shouldn't be making a conclusion of any.
As for dropping the players listed. You can't drop them all and you cant drop them if the blokes below them are no better and haven't earnt their spot. For all the cries of put the young blokes in, it is just as likely that getting pumped every week will stunt the development of these young blokes as the first grade experience will help them. It is a risky move to play them and as i said especially if the coaching staff are of the opinion that they are not an improvement on what is already there,
I have been a big fan of Seyfarth (not so much Cini) but i don't think their demotions were completely undeserving. Seyfarth made some very poor defensive efforts in the few games leading up to his dropping. Where I can forgive Douehi bad defence somewhat (though if he cant improve it next season im not sure id persist with him), as it his actual defensive skills not his defensive effort that let him down Seyfarth's errors were effort related. Add to that he plays a similar role to Offahengaue and the coach just wanting to trial some others in the roster i can see why he has been dropped. Cini was only ever in the side as injury cover and had to perform brilliantly to be any chance to keep his spot. He did not.
We should also consider the role training efforts play in team selection. We as fans all want certain players promoted/demoted but we don't know who is putting in on the training paddock to earn their spot. Take Talau as an example. He might be the best trainer in the club (ive no idea). I would sooner he be chosen as his work ethic will see him become the better player over our other poor options, even if he is not quite there yet. It also provides a motivation for players to train better.
But this could all be nonsense as well. Madge could genuinely have no idea. None of us truly know. I don't however believe that any coach could reach the levels he has being unprofessional.
Anyways, back too my original point as i feel im rambling. Despite any of the above i don't see how Doueihi could possibly be put off his game by Brooks being captain and if he were it just shows Doueihi would not have been the right choice.
